Bankai is the second stage of Zanpakutō release after Shikai—and it is also the final form, the pinnacle of a Shinigami's true power.
Among the thirteen captains of Gotei 13, only Kenpachi Zaraki does not possess a Bankai—and of course, Aizen Sōsuke is no exception.
Aizen's Zanpakutō, "Kyōka Suigetsu," in its Shikai form has the ability of total hypnosis. The condition is simple yet deadly: the target must see the Shikai release with their own eyes to fall into Aizen's illusion. However, this ability has a range limitation and is vulnerable to those who have never witnessed the Shikai directly.
Aizen's Bankai, known as "Tenchi Kairin," is an absolute extension of the illusion of Kyōka Suigetsu. While his Shikai creates illusions for individuals, his Bankai envelops reality in a much larger illusion—swallowing the entire Soul Society into a phantasmal world that is nearly indistinguishable from reality. If Mugen Tsukuyomi is a night without dawn, then Tenchi Kairin is a world that never becomes a world.
Interestingly, Aizen's Bankai bears conceptual similarities to that of the previous generation's Kenpachi Zaraki.
Kenpachi's Bankai allows his personal spirit particles to merge with inorganic matter. Kenpachi can control his surroundings as if they were his own limbs—turning walls into shields, the ground into weapons, and the sky into spies. Once merged with a specific area, Kenpachi can monitor, eavesdrop, stalk, and create clones of himself anywhere within that area.
It took Zaraki a full year to assimilate with the entire Soul Society. The result? Kenpachi can hear anyone's breath, see shadows that light does not even cast, and attack from anywhere, at any time. The only way to stop him... is to destroy the entire Seireitei. As long as Zaraki does not desire his own death, he is an immortal entity within that territory.
Meanwhile, "Tenchi Kairin" does not merge with the physical territory like the Soul Society. Instead, it channels spirit particles of wind and water to create an illusion barrier that surrounds the entire spirit world. It does not control matter—it controls the reality believed by all beings within it. Shadows become light, reality becomes nightmares, and enemies do not even know when they are already dead.
As the main antagonist and a mythological figure among Shinigami, Aizen's Bankai is as terrifying as his reputation.
However, great power often breeds greater arrogance.
Aizen is a Shinigami who stands just one level below the Captain-General in terms of spiritual pressure. Aizen masters all forms of Shinigami combat arts—Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hohō, and Kidō—to the point where no one can match Aizen, even without needing to draw his Zanpakutō.
The only one who can contend with him in pure combat is the Captain-General himself.
However, Aizen is not satisfied. Aizen desires more than just power or dominance. Aizen yearns for a higher existence—beyond the God of Death itself.
The problem? Zanpakutō is a manifestation of a Shinigami's soul. Yet Aizen, in his denial of fate and his own form, distances himself from that entity. The greater his rejection, the more Kyōka Suigetsu deteriorates.
When Aizen finally merged with Hōgyoku—the treasure rumored to be able to manifest the deepest desires of the soul—Kyōka Suigetsu shattered. It was not killed, nor destroyed by an enemy. It collapsed from within, as its master himself rejected it.
The Zanpakutō now in Lance's hands is a perfect copy of Kyōka Suigetsu before the merger with Hōgyoku. Its spiritual pressure is still great, but its Bankai ability has been crippled by the wounds of its master's betrayal.
Even so, this Kyōka Suigetsu still retains most of Aizen's memories and abilities. Therefore, it is not impossible for Lance to reactivate his Bankai.
But Lance needs... a push.
From the previous confrontation, it is evident that Amenadiel is slightly stronger than Lance—just a little. And that small difference might be enough to trigger the explosion that Lance needs.
The perfect enemy has emerged.

Elsewhere—in a world far different...
Nick Fury scratched his head hard, nearly pulling out the remaining hair follicles.
"Again?! Seriously, again?!"
Nick's eyes stared at the screen with an annoyed look, too tired to be angry. A new threat. A new disaster. The world hadn't had a chance to breathe easy since the last one, and now... angels?
Angels, for God—uh, whoever is in charge—are coming again?
Hill stepped quickly to his side, her expression as serious as usual, but her pace was faster than normal.
"Sir, this is the third order from the Security Council. We need to investigate this immediately."
Nick nodded, half resigned.
A holographic display exploded in the air. Above the vast ocean, two figures flew in a cross pattern—one white figure, one black angel. Each of their strikes created storms. Each attack generated waves as tall as skyscrapers.
The sky appeared torn, the ocean seemed ready to fly.
Each of their attacks echoed like the blast of a tactical nuclear bomb—strong enough to ignite chaos in the imagination of anyone witnessing it.
Nick Fury crossed his arms over his chest, his face remaining flat without lifting an eyelid. "If they're curious about what's happening, just tell them to ask those two beings directly."
Hill stared at Nick in silence, her gaze heavy, but she didn't say a word.
Nick finally let out a slow sigh, like air released from excessive pressure. "Maria, how long will it take to modify the Helicarrier Pericles?"
"At least five months," Hill replied in a flat, almost bored tone. "Flying that carrier isn't like flying a hot air balloon."
"Where is the Lemurian Star located?"
"Indian Ocean. Latitude: 16°55′12.06″N, Longitude: 72°56′7.09″E."
Nick nodded slowly. "Send Robert Gonzales. Have him try to make contact. At least make them stop. If not, this world will turn into hell."
Even though the battle was taking place far from land, its shockwaves rippled like the cries of an angry sky—making military monitors around the world restless and unable to sleep.
If it weren't for Nick's insistence against the use of nuclear force, ballistic missiles would have already launched into the sky to destroy those two entities that could hardly be called 'human.'
Hill looked hesitant. "Sir... Captain Gonzales's character... isn't it too risky?"
