My breath caught in my throat, and my heart somersaulted; I didn't really know how to react to such sweet words.

Being a protector naturally sounds better than being a murderer.

"Cringy," I whispered breathlessly, only to hear Henry chuckle deeply and smooch my cheek.

Cupping my face and showing his penetrating blue eye color, he looked at me as if he was my biggest believer, carrying a conviction that went beyond religious.

"It's the truth."

There was a long moment when I stared at his beautiful eyes, spellbound, with my thoughts halting and time feeling nonexistent, before Henry closed in and kissed my lips in the most tender way.

To make things so nice and slow was neither my style nor his, but my body reacted with butterflies in the stomach and all this cringy stuff.

I hadn't thought I had that in me.
