The process isn't complicated, but it requires careful attention.
When making the bow mold, if the curve of the bow body isn't controlled well, it can't cooperate with the bowstring to release enough tension. Such a bow will severely affect range and attack power, making it unusable and only fit for remelting and remaking.
The tightness of the bowstring installation is especially important. If installed too tightly, it could break easily with any external force; if too loose, it cannot work with the bow body to release sufficient pull. The latter is fine, as it can be readjusted. But if the former breaks, the two-meter Teng Jiao Spine would be wasted.
When Xia Chuan and the other two first started participating in making bow molds, they had to remelt quite a few times; Mu Dong was the same, losing two Teng Jiao Spines in the process.
