Chapter 2 - The Evolution Begins

After the system erased the soul, the white lizard inherited the memories of another world—a world devoid of spiritual energy, spirit beasts, or cultivators. A world where everyone was mortal, yet possessed strange objects called computers, used to access vast amounts of information and perform countless tasks.

The lizard finally understood the light that had appeared before its eyes: a game system.

Why is this system attached to a lizard? it wondered.

> "I am bound to the host's soul," the system responded. "I do not know the reason for your selection."

So, if I die, you die too? the lizard asked.

> "I cannot die," the system stated. "I am not alive. I am what you would consider a computer AI."

Okay, the lizard thought.

This human lived in this world for ten years.

He actually tried to steal a pill and got killed.

Then he remembered something.

You used some kind of points to make me see in the sunlight.

> "Yes," the system confirmed. "I evolved your eyes. You can use Evolution Points to evolve and become stronger."

How do I get these points? the lizard asked.

> "You gain points from consumption," the system replied. "The higher the rank of the consumed being, the more points you receive."

Oh, then by eating this human... he thought, a predatory gleam in his eyes.

He attempted to bite into the human corpse, but his teeth couldn't pierce the flesh.

How many points do I have? he asked.

> "You have 20 points," the system responded.

Use all 20 to evolve my teeth, the lizard commanded.

A sharp pain shot through his mouth.

> "Evolution complete," the system announced.

The lizard bit down into the corpse. This time, his teeth sank through the skin with ease.

> "You gained 10 points for consuming a human at the late stage of Qi Refining," the system stated.

After some time, the lizard had eaten as much of the corpse as he could manage—which wasn't even half. He was still just a lizard, no larger than a human hand.

How many points do I have now? he asked.

> "You have 50 points," the system replied.

Use all 50 points to evolve my internal organs, the lizard commanded.

A burning sensation spread through his tiny body.

> "Evolution complete," the system announced.

He continued eating, aware that he had to leave before predators were drawn to the scent of blood.

Once finished, he activated his invisibility ability and crept away from the gruesome remains—just the human's legs and the corpses of his pursuers left behind.

A few minutes later, the lizard found refuge in another cave.

How many points do I have now? he asked.

> "You have 500 points," the system stated.

Use 100 for my scales, 100 for my eyes, 100 for my teeth, and the remaining 200 for my body, he commanded.

An intense wave of pain washed over him, and he lost consciousness.

The next day, the lizard's yellow eyes slowly opened as he awoke.

His body felt heavier, denser. When he looked down, he saw that his limbs were longer, his claws sharper, and his tail thicker and more muscular.

He was now the size of a chick.
