Still, Zane didn't flinch. "No," he said, "but I don't panic over what I've already settled."

Emma turned her face away from him, biting down the rest of her words. She didn't want to admit it, but she feared Zane—not because he was cruel, but because he always did what no one expected, and that terrified her.

She exhaled slowly and decided to say nothing else. If he had a plan, she would find out soon enough.

But just as she turned slightly, her eyes froze.

Her gaze landed on him—her father—stepping out of a black vehicle across the lot, surrounded by two men in suits.

Her heartbeat quickened.

Emma's eyes locked on her father as he approached with a proud, confident gait, flanked on both sides by two men in dark suits—his legal team. Their expressions were unreadable, the kind of men who had been in too many courtrooms to be fazed by anything. Their presence alone felt like a statement: he was prepared, armed, and ready for war.
