Chapter 212: Izumi's Mission
When Sasuke walked into the training ground, he saw Choji chasing Shikamaru, trying to hit him with a log.
"Hey," he called out to Ino.
Do I not have a name? Am I just 'Hey'?
Seeing the amusing scene of Choji chasing Shikamaru put her in a good mood, so she didn't dwell on it. She looked up and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Sasuke ultimately didn't refuse the commission offered by Shūeisha. For every book sold, he received three ryō. Three ryō wasn't much, but it added up, and it was money earned for free without any effort on his part. It would be a shame not to take it. He convinced himself by thinking he was a mature ninja—someone who could endure all pain and hardship. Could he not tolerate a few strange looks? He could handle this! It would be even better if there was more!
With money, he could buy various tonics, large amounts of food, and numerous training aids, weights, and ninja tools. He had to admit, having money was truly wonderful!
Once he realized the beauty of money, he started thinking about how to earn more. He didn't know how to handle large-scale business; he had no ideas and no capital. Fortunately, he had a reference point. He was quite taken with Ino and Shikamaru's method of renting out idle houses. Currently, he was a poor person with quite a few vacant houses at home.
The Uchiha Compound was located on the outskirts of the village; there was nothing much around it. Orochimaru and the Hidden Sand Village hadn't come this way to cause trouble, so the houses in the compound were completely undamaged. He felt he had many vacant houses, while many families in the village had their homes completely destroyed, and reconstruction wasn't that fast. It was a perfect opportunity to rent them out.
Doing this himself felt a bit awkward and beneath him, so he reluctantly came to find Ino.
It was then that Ino learned he had recovered the compound. Thinking that she should visit Uchiha Izumi, she immediately agreed.
"Alright, I'll come find you after I finish today's task."
Sasuke gave a particularly cool wave of his hand. "No need to find me. Just go yourself. Except for the room I'm living in, all the other rooms can be rented out."
They quickly signed a simple agreement: Ino would take twenty percent of the rent and help him rent out the houses. She only needed to give Sasuke the money at the end of each month. He wasn't planning on going home at all; recently, he'd been eating and sleeping at the training grounds.
In the evening, Ino arrived at the Uchiha Compound.
The two scholar trees were still standing at the entrance. Having mastered the Spirilization Jutsu, she had further improved the summoning formula for "Summoning Jutsu: Soul." Soon, she awakened Uchiha Izumi, who was still slumbering within the scholar tree.
"Miss Izumi, long time no see. How have you been?"
Uchiha Izumi was quite optimistic, her face breaking into a smile. "Just the same, I suppose. After all, I'm already dead."
Ino chuckled twice before bringing up the matter of Sasuke.
When Itachi's younger brother was mentioned, Izumi's tone became a little bitter. "I originally thought Sasuke was still a child, but in the blink of an eye, he's already a teenager. I... we have been dead for many years now."
Ino nodded. The memory pattern for souls and spiritual bodies was similar. Because they lacked a brain, memories were fragmented. Spiritual bodies could subjectively organize their memories, but souls had it rough; various memories would mix together, turning into mush after ten days to half a month.
The fact that Izumi could still speak so coherently was entirely due to awakening her Three-Tomoe Sharingan at the age of thirteen. This talent was considered quite high even within the Uchiha clan. Her spiritual energy was strong, and coupled with her lingering regrets that hadn't disappeared, she was able to maintain her lucidity.
"Miss Izumi, are you willing to leave the compound, answer my summons, and fight for me?" Ino wasn't sure exactly how an Onmyoji fought, but she could now seal away souls like Izumi and summon them in battle like Shikigami.
Izumi thought for a moment. She had been wandering around the compound for a very long time. Now, Sasuke wasn't a baby; he didn't need her care at all.
Ino could see some of her thoughts and feelings. The more she saw, the funnier she found it. It was highly unlikely that the current Sasuke would let her smear him with poop, but if she kept lingering around him as a spiritual body, constantly provoking him, he might just greet her with an Indra's Arrow in the face in a few days.
"Miss Yamanaka, the question is, what help can I provide in battle? Without a body, without the Sharingan, there's very little I can do." Izumi's willingness wavered slightly, but there was more confusion than anything.
The reason Edo Tensei was so incredible was that it could replicate the abilities of the deceased from a certain period in their lives. Nagato had the Rinnegan after being Edo Tensei'd, and Uchiha Madara also quickly transformed his Sharingan into the Rinnegan after being Edo Tensei'd. These were their abilities from when they were alive, albeit slightly weaker than the originals, but a portion of their abilities could be replicated.
The Izumi Ino was summoning now was in her post-mortem state. Organs like the Sharingan, once gone, were gone; they wouldn't grow back. Obito could transmit chakra remotely to Kakashi, allowing him to briefly gain Mangekyo abilities, but Izumi didn't have that capability.
"Actually, just getting your eyes back would suffice. I can reseal your eyes into your soul. That way, your rationality can be maintained for a long time, and your abilities will also recover to seventy or eighty percent of what they were when you were alive."
Izumi's heart stirred, but she had one last question. "But how can I find my eyes? I can't sense their location."
Ino didn't have a good solution for the moment.
However, she estimated that after being tormented by Itachi's Tsukuyomi, Kakashi should be close to being able to use Kamui. Kakashi's eye had already awakened the Kamui ability long ago, but he subjectively didn't know it and didn't know how to use it. Itachi's personal demonstration likely helped him truly master the Kamui ability.
Once Kakashi had Kamui, they could create opportunities for him to transfer a few large bombs or something into the Kamui dimension. Surely Obito wouldn't keep those Sharingan eyes hidden in the Kamui dimension forever, would he? As long as he transferred them to the real world, Ino would have an opportunity. The thief can't always guard against the police forever.
Ino transformed into her spiritual state and injected a portion of her non-nature chakra into Izumi's soul. Izumi was originally like water without a source, her soul's chakra depleting with every use. Now, receiving replenishment from Ino, her soul instantly solidified by two points.
Ino then drew a sealing tag on the spot. This was like a gateway similar to the Summoning Jutsu. Normally, Izumi could continue to rest here at the compound, but if needed, Ino could summon her through the sealing tag to fight.
Having awakened the Three-Tomoe Sharingan at thirteen, Izumi's combat ability was certainly not an issue.
Ino asked, "Since we are now effectively in an employer-employee relationship, I'll give you a mission. Do you know Uchiha Shisui?"
Shisui was Itachi's best friend, so Izumi naturally knew of him, though they weren't close.
She nodded.
Ino said, "Village records state he fell into the Naka River. I need you to help me find his remains and his soul."
