Chapter 401 - Chapter 401: The Rock Village Enters the War

Chapter 401: The Rock Village Enters the War

Hayate Gekko's health was poor, but his combat power was higher than Iruka's. At the very least, he was a special jonin specializing in taijutsu with some family-inherited skills. His strength and combat experience were superior to that of an average chunin.

A day later, they arrived at the front lines with supplies.

Shikamaru, who was handling the handover of supplies, was stunned.

"Iruka-sensei?"

Seeing his former student here, Iruka was not surprised at all. "Chunin Nara, I am not a teacher now. I am reporting for duty as a Konoha chunin."

Shikamaru scratched his head. What am I supposed to say? This is so troublesome. It was better to just handle it officially. He picked up the mission roster and quickly scanned it. "I understand... There is an opening in squad A-35. Chunin Iruka, take this document and report for duty."

"Yes, sir!" Iruka replied loudly.

Jiraiya had sent private letters to both Tsunade and Ino, hoping they would take care of Iruka on the battlefield as much as possible, given his deep bond with Naruto.

But the extent of this care was limited. Often, it was simply impossible.

Wasn't Nawaki taken care of by Orochimaru back in the day? There were just too many accidents on the battlefield.

The Cloud Village's offensive was extremely fierce. A group of Lightning Release experts used feints and blitzkrieg-like tactics with great skill.

They had more than one chakra cannon. The technology was far from being able to bombard the moon, but it was more than enough to deal with a Wood Golem.

At one point, Ino was besieged by five cannons. She couldn't hold on, and the Wood Golem was beaten into a retreat, looking as pathetic as could be.

In her mission report to the Konoha leadership, Ino specifically described this chakra cannon, hoping the village would also develop similar weapons. Her original words were, "Every shot that lands devastates for dozens of miles."

Of course, this was an exaggeration. The kill radius of a megaton-class nuclear bomb is only about a dozen kilometers. But if she didn't exaggerate, the supplies from the rear wouldn't be transported over so quickly.

Koharu Utatane strongly disagreed with her exaggerated statement. What nonsense is this? A single shot can have a range of dozens of miles?

Ino wrote back in rebuttal, It's easy for you to talk when you're not the one taking the hits! If you have the guts, come take a shot yourself! If you can withstand it, I'll eat that cannon!

The battle was intense. The Cloud ninja's attacks came in waves like the tide, but Konoha's defense was watertight. Occasionally, under Shikamaru's planning, they would launch a few local counter-attacks, which could also throw the Cloud ninja into disarray for a while.

Overall, after more than a month of fighting, the Cloud Village had gained no advantage, and Konoha had not suffered any losses.

When a large number of Cloud ninja were dispatched to the front lines, Lord Danzo finally tore open a gap in Cee's encirclement and rushed back to the Land of Fire.

Upon returning to the village, he was questioned by several people.

"Danzo, what exactly did you take from the Cloud Village?" Koharu Utatane asked.

Jiraiya, Homura Mitokado, and Shikaku were also waiting for his answer.

The Cloud Village's repeated demands for Konoha to hand over Danzo Shimura were just a pretext for war, but they all agreed that Danzo had caused a lot of trouble for the Cloud Village this time.

Danzo knew he couldn't hide it and immediately took out the Crimson Gourd.

Large question marks appeared above everyone's heads. This is the Amber Purifying Pot? This is a gourd, isn't it?

Seemingly knowing their thoughts, Danzo said resentfully, "There is no such thing as a purifying pot. When I went, I only found this. If I'm not mistaken, this is the Sage's ninja tool that Ginkaku once used, the Crimson Gourd."

Shikaku couldn't help but ask, "Lord Danzo, are you saying... the Cloud Village never had the Amber Purifying Pot?"

Danzo gritted his teeth. "That should be the case. When I broke into their treasure room that day, I recall there was some residual genjutsu chakra at the scene. They must have used genjutsu to disguise the Crimson Gourd as the purifying pot."

He still had six Sharingan on him. Although they were all in a sealed state, he could still sense a trace of genjutsu. It was just that it was too chaotic at the time, and time was too tight. He was too busy to observe carefully.

Shikaku asked with his eyes, Can I take a look at this Crimson Gourd?

Danzo spoke in a selfless tone. "It was originally the village's property. Look if you want."

Shikaku studied it for a while and was completely dumbfounded. How do you use this thing?

He asked Danzo, and Danzo sneered. If I knew how to use it, would I have given it to you?

Jiraiya, Koharu Utatane, and Homura Mitokado all took the gourd and studied it for a while, but they were also clueless.

The item had an ancient design and contained immense chakra within; it definitely wasn't a fake. But how to use it? They really didn't know.

"This item should not be known by too many people. I, as the Hokage, will keep it." Jiraiya impolitely put away the Crimson Gourd. He had exceptional trust in Mount Myoboku. He thought that if he didn't know how to use the Crimson Gourd, Mount Myoboku might. He would have Fukasaku and Shima study it later. Once they figured out how to use it, he would give it to Naruto as a trump card.

Danzo was very unhappy. He had gone through so much trouble, lost many subordinates, and took the blame, and now the only benefit had been taken by Jiraiya. How infuriating! Was being Hokage so great?

But he had no other choice. The Crimson Gourd was useless in his hands. If he handed it over, he would have contributed to Konoha, and the village would help him bear the responsibility for what happened. If he didn't? Not handing it over would mean he intentionally provoked a ninja war, and that would be an even bigger blame to bear!

He returned to Root headquarters in a huff.

Back on his own turf, he finally received some good news.

Yamanaka Fū and Aburame Torune had actually captured Shin Uchiha. With this experimental subject with a special constitution in hand, the Sharingan on his arm could soon be restored.

Without Izanagi, old Danzo felt very insecure.

He interrogated Shin Uchiha and also learned about the "masked man." His hatred for the Akatsuki grew, but the most urgent matter now was to restore his strength.

Transplanting the Sharingan was the next big thing, and he couldn't do it without a trustworthy medical-nin.

The medical-nin in the village were not trustworthy, so he gave an order: "Fū, go find Kabuto Yakushi. Tell him I want to make a deal with him."

Ino, who had returned to the village for a rest, was just strolling around when she received a message from Izumi Uchiha.

"Ino, I think I sense the location of my eye." Izumi's words stunned her. So suddenly? Without any warning?

"Where is it?" she asked.

Sensing her own eye, and thinking of the suffering she had endured for no reason, the very zen Izumi regained the fighting spirit she had when she was first awakened.

She stood on the spot, sensed for a moment, and finally pointed to the northwest. "It should be over there."

There were many ninja villages to the northwest of Konoha. Both the Rain Village and the Rock Village were in that direction.

Ino immediately went to gather information.

Without much effort, she found out the reason why Obito had placed his numerous Sharingan in the physical world.

The Rock Village had also declared war on Konoha. Facing the Third Tsuchikage's Dust Release, Kakashi had finally used his Kamui on the battlefield!
