Chapter 520: Hayate Gekko is Sick Again
Ino used 4 System Points to level her Fire Release to Lv. 5, then used 1 point to unlock the Kekkei Genkai that fused Water and Fire Release: Boil Release.
With that, she had now integrated five chakra natures into her bloodline—Water, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Yang. Only Lightning and Yin remained before she could achieve Kekkai Mōra.
Boil Release had to be trained from Lv. 1 up to Lv. 3 before she could start adding points. At the same time, with Kakashi's notes on Lightning Release, Ino estimated she could train it up to Lv. 4 on her own.
Seeing her diligently practicing Lightning Release, Sasuke was immediately fired up and performed his specialty, Lightning Release: Kirin.
A jutsu leveled up with points was ultimately not as effective as one trained personally. Ino humbly asked Sasuke for guidance on Lightning Release ninjutsu, which greatly satisfied his vanity.
It wasn't easy, but there's finally a ninjutsu you're not good at?
"Oink, oink!" Tonton, pulling its food cart, brought Ino a note. She read it over.
"There's a patient at the Konoha Hospital. I'm going to check on them. You keep practicing."
Sasuke, who was painstakingly training his sensory abilities, just grunted an "oh" in acknowledgment.
The attacks from the Sky Ninja and Pain had left the village with a large number of injured.
Kakashi had been hospitalized for half a month due to his use of Kamui. Although he still couldn't fight, he was fine for daily walks and had been discharged early. The other injured were not so lucky.
As the hospital director, Shizune had to arrange for the medical-nin to work in three shifts, leaving her dizzy with work.
Despite feeling it was a bad time, Yugao Uzuki brought Hayate Gekko to the hospital.
Shizune examined him thoroughly but couldn't find anything wrong.
Hayate insisted he was perfectly healthy and didn't want to take up precious medical resources, but Yugao was adamant that he was sick.
"Lady Shizune, Hayate... he really is sick, look—" Yugao casually picked up a medical senbon and, without even looking, pricked Hayate's arm.
For a ninja, with their high pain tolerance, a simple prick like that shouldn't elicit a strong reaction, let alone having their arm pierced through. Crying out in pain would easily earn the scorn of their peers.
But when Yugao's senbon struck, Hayate's reaction was extremely exaggerated. He shot up from the hospital bed, and it was clear he was trying to endure the pain, but he couldn't.
"Hmm? What a strange symptom... I'll run another detailed check." Shizune immediately began to examine Hayate again. Half an hour later, she called Tsunade over. Eventually, even Ino was called in for a joint consultation.
"Hayate Gekko's body is extremely healthy, but it's because it's too healthy that this abundant life force is clashing with his previously rather fragile nervous system. To solve this problem, we can only let his nervous system gradually adapt to his new body," Tsunade gave a comprehensive assessment.
Both Shizune and Ino agreed with her diagnosis.
Ino had previously teased Yugao that her husband's body was healthier than anyone's and that they would soon have a baby. The current situation was a bit ironic; this was definitely not the "life" Yugao had wanted.
"Is this the result of that King of Hell's treatment? Can we reduce the therapeutic effect?" Tsunade couldn't solve this with medicine and could only trace it back to the source. And what was the source? The source was Ino's new friend, the King of Hell.
Ino offered a couple of words in her new friend's defense. "You can't really blame the King of Hell for this. In fact, he was greatly weakened after treating Hayate. Tonton could sense it..."
Tsunade scratched her head. It was hard to say whether this underworld treatment was a blessing or a curse for Hayate. Now that there was a problem, what was a doctor to do?
Tsunade and Shizune were traditional doctors, constantly pondering the immune and nervous systems.
Ino, however, had a more creative mind and more resources at her disposal. After studying Hayate's chakra pathways, she spent three days creating two "implants" for him.
They were a "Pain Editor" implanted in his immune system and "Synaptic Signal Optimizers" installed in his bones.
The principle of the "Pain Editor" was based on the Nara clan's Yin Release Shadow Imitation Technique, using hair-thin Yin Release threads to delve deep into the human immune system.
The human immune system has three layers. The outermost is the skin, the second line of defense is phagocytic cells, and the final line is the immune organs.
The "Pain Editor," with the spleen as its core, controlled the tonsils and lymph nodes. Because it used Yin Release chakra, it could bypass the body's phagocytic cells and ultimately control some skin functions from the inside out.
This small device could increase Hayate's pain tolerance. He was too sensitive before? Now, forget about the little things between husband and wife; even if a sword cut him, as long as it wasn't a vital spot, he could act as if nothing happened and run for hundreds of meters.
The "Synaptic Signal Optimizers" could strengthen bones. The core of this device was the secret medicine of the Kaguya clan's Shikotsumyaku.
The Kaguya clan, deeply affected by their Shikotsumyaku, had developed a secret medicine to inhibit bone growth. Ino had practically plundered the Mist Village, and the recipe for this medicine had fallen into her hands.
The original medicine was meant to inhibit bone growth to minimize the irreversible damage the Shikotsumyaku caused to a ninja's bones and cells. Now, combined with some equipment, inhibition was changed to reinforcement.
A ninja's body was too fragile, always getting a couple of ribs broken. Hayate's current sensitivity was also due to his bones not being strong enough. After some internal reinforcement, combined with strong muscles, those strange symptoms would naturally disappear.
Hayate only thought about it for five minutes before signing the surgical consent form.
Tsunade, Shizune, and Ino performed the surgery together. All three were experts at cutting people open, and the operation was completed in an hour.
The next day.
It was impossible to remove the stitches immediately. This super-patient, Hayate, was no Hashirama Senju; his recovery wasn't that fast. But adjusting his pain sensation was possible.
Minato Namikaze and Homura Mitokado came to observe.
The adjustment certainly wouldn't involve taking out his spleen again; everything could be operated on externally.
Ino increased the pain threshold. Hayate felt as if a hand had suddenly grabbed his internal organs and squeezed hard.
He frowned from the pain, but five seconds later, he realized it didn't hurt as much anymore.
Yugao once again took out a senbon and pierced his arm.
The group observed his reaction.
A normal ninja has a high tolerance for pain, but they still feel it. Now, as the senbon pierced his skin and crimson blood slowly trickled out, there was not a trace of pain on Hayate's face, as if it were someone else being pricked.
