It's probably not a good idea to meet someone who looks exactly like your made-up lover.
I am certain it's a bad idea. A very bad idea. Every article I read was against it. Even I logically know so.
Yet here I am, anyway.
"Don't go too far to the perimeter. Some Kryll might sneak in."
The soldier says it, handing us our passes to get into the forest. His eyes flick to me, then to Daphne, then back to me. He clearly recognizes me. Fortunately he's professional enough to not bring it up.
"We'll be careful," Daphne says smoothly. "And if anything out of the ordinary happens, my ARC here will send a signal and buy enough time."
She motions to the robot that's been silently behind us the whole time. It just blinks its digital eyes. I don't think robots need to blink anyway.
"Of course." The soldier lets us through into the giant forest surrounding Oakhaven.
