A WAU is dead! A Wau is DEAD. In a few moments you will see the images of the Aleph carrying the corpse of the Armor to Munich, in Earth's UniPsi, where his body will be subjected to analysis by our greatest scientists. This is a clear message sent to the Order of Wau: cease interfering in the affairs of men, or rally to Human Society! It is the Aleph himself who defeated the terrible warrior on a Xeno planet, during a battle of titans that, forgive my lyricism, is said to have left eternal scars on the landscape! Today, immediately for the question of the day, I receive the head of intelligence on Titus, Leonid Love. Leonid, this arrest of a member of the Order of Wau, is this good news?
The term arrest is a litotes, this Wau is dead. HS, and the Aleph who leads it, always regret deaths, even useful ones. That said, the Order of Wau has been a thorn in humanity's side from the beginning. With them, there is rarely debate: the Order intervenes with one of its members in Armor, often unilaterally, demanding a decision and an action from us. If we refuse, they intervene in person. This is a real problem, because it does not correspond to HS's standards of democracy, where solutions are proposed, thought out, debated, and reached through consensus. From the point of view of our ambition of freedom, this is progress, even if it is unfortunate that it ended in a "human" loss, in quotation marks, since we do not really know if the being behind the Armor is actually human. In my capacity as strategist, it is important to always have a lever to balance the balance of power. We now have it. That does not necessarily mean the beginning of a war with the Order of Wau… it may be the opportunity for the beginning of a collaboration, where the Order will accept our decisions without intervening by force when we do not go their way. I am tempted to say: finally!
And what do you say to those who think that the Order of Wau has done nothing but protect humanity all this time?
I am also a great fan of the Crew of Captain Wau, but I keep in mind that it is fiction. It would be wise to see what the results of the Wau's autopsy will show. If it is a Xeno, then once again the Aleph will have freed humanity from one of its chains. I would also like to add that even if the Order of Wau is infallible - and this, it is impossible to know, since they so rarely leave us the choice - even if it is, then, that does not mean humanity must blindly follow its counsel. Our cardinal value is freedom, and freedom in its broadest sense also means the freedom to make mistakes. Making mistakes is the only path to growth.
Andreï and Pallas watched gravely as Leonid concluded on their screens.
- "It was inevitable, captain. The Aleph is stronger than the transients, so a Wau could not have withstood him for long.
- He will be missed by all of us, Pallas. Even by you, not sparing in suspicious looks toward him.
- It is not necessarily our correspondent.
- It is him, Pallas. I am certain of it, but I don't know why. You know… I feel as if my life is a slow tragedy during which Garen Antor takes away from me each thing that brings a little beauty to life. But well, you are still here, you."
Pallas lowered her head, troubled.
