Chapter 58 - Cut Loose Ends

The moment Irene saw Wren and Hazel standing barefoot in the middle of the town, she didn't even think — she ran to them, calling their names so loudly the morning crowd stopped to stare.

Hazel's eyes widened then softened when she saw her.

Wren instinctively moved closer, shielding her with her embrace, protectively.

But Irene didn't hesitate. She wrapped them both into a tight, desperate embrace. Her eyes almost drowning in tears.

"You… idiots," she whispered shakily. "You're alive, you know how worried I were, how dare you do that to me?"

Hazel's throat tightened, she wasn't so close to her but she knew how important she was to Wren so rather that jealous she felt more of guilt, after all it was she who caused all of this.

Wren blinked rapidly, fighting the sting behind her eyes.

"I'm sorry I made you suffer, I should have been stronger," Hazel murmured.
