Chapter 30 - New Identity II

Shortly after Orion left and the younger engineer made sure, he was well gone, the hacker glanced towards Elijah and said, "Now, why you're so generous?"

"Don't you already know, Bill?" Elijah chuckled.

"From the moment I saw him I knew that something good was in his bag with how cautious he was." He continued.

"So, you plan to rob him?" Bill, the hacker asked.

"Why else would I bring him here and pay for his identification?" Elijah said, "It quite obvious that he doesn't have the credit for it."

"But whatever is in that huge backpack of his is definitely worth a lot." Elijah continued.

Bill nodded, "I scanned his power level, he is almost gamma grade and obviously has military training… I don't think we can take him."

"But we can track him, right?" Elijah asked.

"Of course, I created his identity I can find him anywhere."

"Good, did you find anything about him?"

"Nothing, that is the issue there is nobody with his physical attributes," Bill pointed at the hologram in front of him. "It is like he just appeared."

"That is not possible now, is it?" Elijah asked

"That is what I am saying, either he never existed or he is from a very primitive planet that we have no contact with or…"

"Or?" Elijah questioned

"Or someone very high wiped his identity from the system"

"The first one is impossible, and the second option is also out of question… the most plausible one is the third one." The young engineer interjected in his conversation.

"But why didn't they just create a new information for him?" Bill questioned.

"Don't worry, I will speak to my brother, just keep track of him." Elijah said as he left the establishment with his lackey.

***

Orion knew that something was off with the entire operation that just happened, but he honestly didn't care.

He walked towards one of the rundown buildings and knocked.

Less than a few minutes later an old man in wheelchair opened the door, "What the fuck do want?"

"I need a place to stay for a few hours." Orion said as he pulled out a pouch that contained a good number of coins obviously more that what he offered Elijah,

"Shake that shit," The old man said as he nodded his head towards the pouch.

Although confused, Orion shook the pouch, but the old man cut him off.

"Shake that shit well, new blood." The old man said.

Orion immediate shook the pouch well.

"Mmmmhh… 937 coins… that sounds good." The old man reached out and grabbed the pouch. "Come in."

The old man tucked the pouch into his robe and turned his wheelchair one-eighty degrees and rolled back in.

Although Orion was confused, he still followed him and when they reached a stair the old man pointed up,

"Take the room up there and once your time is up, get the fuck up." The old man said and tuned around leaving Orion to do his thing.

Orion watched the old man roll away before climbing up the stairs.

There were three rooms up here, the first one Orion entered didn't have beds but weirdly enough it seemed clean.

The second room was filled with some weird stuff from old, damaged items and other stuff but they were not arranged.

Thankfully the third room was clean, well-arranged and a good bed, 'How did that old man even keep this room clean?'

Without bothering much with his thoughts he walked in and dropped his bag.

Like always the first thing he did was scan the room for any listening or recording video.

Nothing came up so he sat down on the bed.

He had several things to do; he used to think the only thing he could copy were weapons but now he wasn't very sure what the criterial were.

This was one of the limitations he had come to understand about the X-Core, there was no user's manual.

Now he had to figure everything on his own but that is where he ran into another problem… the limitation in his thinking.

Growing up in a place where they were extremely censored reduced his world view vastly.

While he did know a lot of things, there was so much more that he couldn't begin to fathom.

For instance, he had been told all his life was space was cold but that was not the complete truth.

The temperature in space varies dramatically depending on location and exposure to heat sources.

Depending on the proximity to a star, space can in fact be very hot.

However, one key insight to keep in mind is that space isn't cold because of distance from the Sun, but because it lacks matter.

Heat transfer in space relies solely on radiation, so objects heat up only when exposed to sunlight or other radiation sources.

This was the reason his whole shenanigans with opening up his starfighter in space didn't lead to him simply freezing to death or combusting.

His location was in a sweet spot where the radiation was just right although he didn't have air but that was fine since his lung's capacity was improved.

Now he wanted to try to rectify that issue.

He grabbed one of what could be described as an older star watch model and used his analytical system.

{Direct Connection (Hard-link Jack)}

{Connecting to Star Watch…}

{Connecting to Star Net…}

'Shit… No No No,' Orion thought as he immediately disconnected from the Star Net.

{Star Net Connection Terminated}

One major rule he had created for himself was never connect to the Star Net directly and for good reasons too.
