Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Kaka's First Battle

King's expression darkened slightly when Gabriel sent out his Farfetch'd . Using a Farfetch'd to battle? Was he underestimating him?

"I won't hold back! Abra — use Confusion!"

A blue psychic glow shimmered around Abra as it launched the attack toward Kaka. But with a swift sidestep, Kaka dodged it effortlessly.

Why did everyone assume Farfetch'd was weak? Kaka had undergone two months of intense training and was no longer the timid Pokémon from before. With his sharp instincts and natural talent, he could turn the tables on careless opponents — just like Abra now.

"There's no such thing as a weak Pokémon. Even a Farfetch'd has what it takes to win! Kaka, teach him a lesson!"

Following Gabriel's command, Kaka tightened his grip on the leek in his wing, stepping into a combat stance. His aura suddenly surged, as sharp as a blade. The sudden pressure made King falter.

Gabriel was right — this wasn't an ordinary Farfetch'd.

"Kaka, Night Slash!"

As the order rang out, Kaka burst forward with dazzling speed. Before Abra could react, the leek in Kaka's wing slashed forward like a katana.

"Abra, Protect!"

A faint shield of light shimmered around Abra's body — King's desperate attempt to block the attack. But it was useless.

Kaka's Night Slash sliced through Protect like it wasn't even there. The leek blade struck Abra cleanly at the neck, sending the Psychic-type tumbling backward and knocking it out in a single blow.

"T-That's impossible!"

From the sidelines, James stood slack-jawed. He swallowed hard as he stared at Kaka, who still held his Night Slash stance.

Farfetch'd? That was just… a food ingredient! How could it be this powerful?

The image of Kaka slicing clean through Protect burned into his mind. Breaking that move was normally only possible when battling above your rank — yet Kaka had done it effortlessly.

Even his own Scyther couldn't break through Protect, but this Farfetch'd could?

Was that to say… his Scyther was weaker than a Farfetch'd?

After two months of training, it felt like the gap between him and Gabriel was only growing.

Was this really… just a Farfetch'd?

King finally recovered from his shock. Though reluctant, he recalled his unconscious Abra back into its PokéBall, frustration flickering in his eyes.

"I lost again! But next time… I will win!"

He glanced one last time at Kaka, still standing calmly in the ring, eyes filled with disbelief.

"It's my turn now! You're done, right? Then I'm up!"

James called out loudly from the sidelines, eager to take the field. He had been dying to see for himself why this Farfetch'd was so strong.

Watching from below wasn't enough. He had to face Kaka directly to understand his power.

"I'm going with Scyther again. You should be familiar with him by now. Are you still going to use that Farfetch'd?"

"Yeah. I'm still using Kaka."

Gabriel nodded calmly, standing by his partner.

James Scyther had clearly grown stronger after two months of training. Its aura was sharper, more refined. Compared to that, Kaka did seem slightly less imposing.

The two Pokémon locked eyes. Then, Scyther made the first move — lunging with both bladed arms extended. Those scythe-like arms were his main weapons, and James's Scyther wielded them with masterful precision. A flurry of relentless strikes rained down on Kaka.

Yet every slash, no matter how precise or swift, was parried by Kaka's leek.

Suddenly, a subtle pause in Scyther's rhythm — a crack in his defense. Kaka's sharp eyes caught a thin line across Scyther's neck.

This is it!

With a fierce swing, Kaka knocked Scyther backward and immediately dashed forward, leek aimed straight at his exposed neck. One blow — that was all he needed.

"Dodge it!"

Startled, Scyther just barely managed to leap back in time, narrowly avoiding Kaka's critical strike. He reset his stance, panting, eyes wide.

Even though he was still standing, Scyther was visibly shaken. That one attack… it would've finished him.

James broke into a cold sweat. What was this Farfetch'd? That move… he could feel it. One hit would've taken out his Scyther, just like King's Abra.

How do you fight something like that?

Kaka, still holding his leek, wasn't discouraged. He pointed confidently at the flustered Scyther, sharp eyes locked in.

I'm not a pushover anymore. I can fight now!

"Farrrfetch'd!" (Come at me! En garde!)

His bold cry startled Scyther, who stiffened. Then came the sting of humiliation — was he actually scared of a food item?

James caught on to Scyther's hesitation and gave a firm command.

"Careful. Don't let him land a hit!"

Scyther lunged again. The two Pokémon clashed in a blur of blade and leek, blow after blow landing against one another.

To be fair, James Scyther had improved significantly. Without pulling out all the stops, Kaka wouldn't be able to finish this easily.

Still, Gabriel smiled. This was already a victory. Kaka had grown strong — and this battle had proved it.

"All right, Kaka. Time to end this — use your finishing move!"

Kaka struck Scyther back with one swing, then calmly stepped back, closing his eyes. He held his leek to his side like a sheathed blade, standing motionless.

Inner Focus. Activate. (Focus Mind)

James blinked. "What move is that…?"

Even Scyther hesitated, watching his opponent in confusion.

"Don't just stand there — go test him!"

Cautiously, Scyther crept closer. Kaka didn't move.

Had he… given up?

Just as Scyther hesitated—

Kaka's eyes snapped open.

With blinding speed, his leek slashed upward in a clean arc toward Scyther's neck. The strike was so fast, even a ready Scyther couldn't react in time. One clean hit — and he collapsed.

Unconscious.
