Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: A Novel Idea

After parting ways with June, Gabriel and his two companions went their separate ways. After all, they were new to the academy and had many things to handle. Fortunately, Gabriel had his own matters to take care of as well.

Thanks to King leading the way and familiarizing him with the campus, Gabriel quickly found the place he was supposed to go: the Research Center within the academy.

Just as the Battle Department has its own training rooms, and the Breeding Department has its nurseries and incubation labs, the Research Department naturally has a facility of its own—a specialized and highly equipped center where all research students conduct their projects. Gabriel was here on the recommendation of Director Roland.

As he entered the Research Center, Gabriel couldn't help but marvel at his surroundings. Compared to other specialized buildings across the academy, this one stood out by a long shot. The moment he stepped through the doors, the advanced technology was apparent—it wasn't just a step ahead; it was a full tier above. This building truly lived up to the reputation of the Research Department.

Just as Gabriel walked in, someone stopped him.

"You must be Gabriel, right? The director told me to wait for you here."

Gabriel looked at the man in a lab coat and gave a polite nod before extending his hand.

"Yes, that's me. Nice to meet you. And you are…?"

"Ah! I forgot to introduce myself," the man chuckled. "I'm Professor Seth, Deputy Director of the Research Department. You can just call me Professor Seth. Even though you're part of the Battle Department, you'll still be taking some of my classes—so make sure you attend them properly!"

He smiled warmly as he led Gabriel deeper into the center. Before long, they arrived at an office where Director Roland was already waiting.

Director Roland greeted Gabriel with a knowing smile.

"You actually came. Honestly, I half-expected you wouldn't return. After winning the championship, several top academies offered you deals just as attractive as ours here at Jindu Academy. I'm surprised you still chose us."

Gabriel nodded in acknowledgment. After his championship win, several academy representatives had indeed reached out with tempting offers—some of which nearly swayed him. But in the end, he kept his promise.

"It's simple. I made a deal with you, and you didn't back out. I have no reason to go back on it either. My father's a businessman—he values integrity, and as his son, I can't let our family name lose face."

Roland nodded with relief. He was well aware of Gabriel's family background—after all, the academy had long been a major client for their Infinite BeastBlocks.

"I'm glad you chose to stay. Of course, I'm a man of my word too. Come with me—the academy has already prepared the Beast we promised you."

Could it be a Rotom?

He'd been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Roland led Gabriel to another room. On the table inside sat three Poké Balls. The Director gestured toward them.

"These contain the most promising Rotomspecimens we've cultivated in the center. Each of them has been specially studied and can possess nearly any mechanical device. However, research on Rotom is still ongoing. What makes this Electric/Ghost-type Beast so fascinating is its ability to adapt based on the device inhabits—each form brings out unique abilities. Once you become its Trainer, there's still much for you to explore."

Gabriel stared at the three Poké Balls in silence, contemplating his decision.

To his knowledge, Rotom wasn't particularly strong in battle. However, its dual Electric/Ghost typing gave it a unique trait—it could possess machines and unlock a wide array of capabilities.

In the anime, Rotom had famously possessed both the Pokédex and a smartphone, granting it utility far beyond that of a typical Pokémon.

That's exactly what Gabriel was interested in. With his Farfetch'dand Dratinigrowing much stronger after two months of intense training, he didn't necessarily need another battle-ready Pokémon.

What he lacked now was a method of advanced training.

Early on, when both Dratini and Kaka were weaker, Gabriel could get by with simple drills. But as their strength grew, his ability to guide them plateaued. Gabriel might've been knowledgeable thanks to the anime, but when it came to practical breeding techniques, he was hitting a wall.

Dratini's progress over the past two months had slowed down. Though Dynamax energy helped him get stronger, relying solely on Dynamax wouldn't be enough to reach Champion level.

Even Leon, the anime's strongest Champion, relied on Dynamax—but even without it, he was still an elite Trainer. Dynamax should be a trump card, not the foundation.

That's why Rotom could be the perfect addition.

If trained right, Rotom could ease his burden as a Breeder. By possessing machines, it could analyze Pokémon bodies more accurately and assist in tailored training plans.

Gabriel didn't need a powerful battler. What he needed was a Rotom optimized for breeding support.

With his thoughts clear, Gabriel turned to Director Roland.

"Director, is there a Rotom suited for breeding assistance?"

"Huh?" Roland blinked, caught off guard. "What do you mean?"

"I'm looking for a Rotom that can help me raise my Pokémon or Beast—a Breeding-Type Rotom, if that makes sense."

"A… Breeding-Type Rotom?"

Roland clearly hadn't considered this angle before. Gabriel took a deep breath and began to explain.

It took nearly an hour, but eventually, Gabriel conveyed his full vision. As he spoke, both Roland and Professor Seth's expressions grew increasingly animated—like a portal to a brand-new realm had just opened before them.

"Why didn't I think of this earlier!?" Roland exclaimed. "Rotom's ability to merge with machines and harness their functions—it's not just unique; it's revolutionary!"

Professor Seth, however, was even more excited.

"Think about it! If Rotom can absorb data and enhance its capabilities, then applying that in breeding scenarios is practically cheating! And that's just the beginning—imagine what this could mean for scientific research too! Rotom could be a total game-changer!"

By the end of the discussion, Professor Seth was practically glowing with admiration as he looked at Gabriel.

"What a genius like you doing in the Battle Department? Your brain belongs in Research!"
