Chapter 16 - Strange Questions Pt 2

Sorry about the delay in this chapter and for its rather short length compared to usual. All hail the new king his grace 👑 King Prime_2 long may he reign.

However, more importantly, I've been receiving numerous complaints about the childhood arc. Now it's my story I'm not getting paid to write this and I only do it for fun and to improve my writing skills. However, I honestly say it's been a bit of a slog for me to write as well. So I've been considering increasing the pacing a bit so we can get to his teenage years. The only problem with that is I haven't fully ironed out the details of what I want for him during that time. So let me know if you all think j should speed up the pacing for this fic.

Next is a lot of people have been asking me who the female lead will be? To that, I say I haven't decided yet how I would like to know what the popular opinion is. Personally, I'm leaning towards him having multiple girls but I'm not sure yet. So what should it be if I'd like some feedback on that? Especially since chapters have been leaning more towards 5k words rather than the usual 2.5k.

Lastly, how are you all liking the fic so far? Is there anything you'd like to see in the future or anything else? I know I didn't finish editing the last chapter which I do apologize for. Also, I haven't fully tried my hand at comedy before but I hope some of the jokes are landing.

So anyway I'm still sick but I'm going back to college tomorrow which is like a two-hour drive away so that sucks. Especially with the hand-me-down car that I got from my big brother who got it from my mom. He basically for lack of better words fucked it to a near-death state so that's awesome. I mean basically had to get new everything and the damn thing still barely works. But I have to because I have a math test tomorrow which I'm probably going to fail badly because statistics is a bitch like that. Anyways y'all have a good day and enjoy the chapter and hopefully by the time it comes out, I'll be feeling better.

Sorry for ranting I probably could have put this in an author announcement

During the early years of the second century of Targaryen rule the loss of Prince Baelon not only affected the emotions but also the behaviors of the royal family. Mainly the behavioral patterns of the King and Queen. During the time between the death of his heir Prince Baelon the Brave and his funeral on Dragonstone, it's said the house of the dragon was on the edge of division. On one side lay the eldest and only daughter of the deceased Prince Aemon rider of Caraxes the Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and her husband Lord Corlys Velaryon. On the other side Prince Viserys and his wife Lady Aemma Arryn. Each in the wake of the spring prince's death began to prepare for the king's decision of who would be his next heir.

But it seemed the king and Queen themselves were not entirely consumed by this matter however rather it seemed that their eyes were on a different future. The royal couple had taken to inviting many of the younger members of their house and other close houses to their chambers. The child summoned with the most frequency however was the Prince Aemon son of the rogue Prince Daemon.

The Prince mentioned his recollections of these meetings several times during his life including in his own writings. But they are most well covered in the book The Life of the Rune Dragon Volume 1 by Archmeaster Vaegon Targaryen on the events of Prince Aemon's early life. This very section draws heavily from those same writings and what he himself said in public though of course his supposed words were spoken hundreds of years ago. Though many of the princes' conversations between King Jaehaerys and Prince Aemon were never recorded or briefly mentioned but a few in particular stood out. This record of the conversation however is contradicted in the book A Song of Bronze and Fury later written by Robar Royce who also mentions Aemon's recollections of these talks.

Of these conversations, we shall start with the first. It seems that the king and queen had several questions for young Aemon but the most important or interesting depending on your perspective were "Do you wish to be King?" and "What do you dream of?"

The talk between Aemon and his great-grandparents was an awkward one. Aemon personally felt like he was walking through a minefield. After all who asks their three-year-old great-grandson if they want to be king of the majority of the entire continent? But more so than that was how when he had tried to jokingly avoid answering Jaehaerys insisted on having him elaborate.

And so he did his main reason being that he simply had no desire to rule over others. Instead, he was far more interested in his own freedom he didn't want to determine the paths of others' lives. Aemon began to explain how he believed that everyone had the right to choose their own path in life and being king simply wasn't his. He would rather just want to embrace his own freedom especially before he would one day be lord of Runestone.

The King and Queen seemed to be amused by that explanation. In fact, it even caused Jeahearys to laugh. When the boy asked why his great-grandparents were laughing the Queen responded.

"That either way he would still be a leader of men." But the Prince simply responded with a chuckle that "he would have to lead less often."

The royal couple laughed at that as well. The Prince then asked why they had truly brought him to speak with them. The king asked his descendant a question that would later set into motion a chain of events so drastic it was like the first snows that would lead to a grand avalanche.

That question was "What do you dream of?" At first, it seemed an innocent enough question.

'What do I dream of?' the reincarnated boy thought. But where at first he believed the question referred to his goals in life he instead seized the opportunity to do something that may yet change the future.

"I dream of many things great great-grandfather but of those things. One thing I have dreamt over and over since I got to Kings Landing." He said and it wasn't even a lie he could recollect it now the dream that he'd been having last night for in truth it wasn't the first time he had had it. Then a tiny thought slipped into his mind due to the course of his plan. He intended to manipulate his great-grandparents into thinking he was a dagon dreamer. But what if by some strange stroke of luck it turned out that he really was a dragon dreamer?

At that moment the system screen pulled up but before it could do anything else Aemon dismissed it with his mind alone. He had never done it like that before but it was the least of his concerns at the moment he decided to forge a story in a way that Jaehaerys couldn't ignore. And so he spoke that prince of bronze and fury whose words and deeds would change worlds indeed. So he would spin a tale, a tale that was part lie and part truth as the best of lies always were.

He spoke of how he saw dragons dancing in the sky above. And below them a kingdom of beasts all fighting for dominance over the others. The dragons burned and burned until all the beasts below knelt before them. From dire wolves to lions and fish and eagles under the sun and moon. All the plants and beasts obeyed and feared them and the dragons conquered all. They ruled over the heavens the earth and the sea the ultimate rulers of all. But then the dragons began to fight one another until only the smallest and the weakest remained. Then the beasts rose against them and slew the last dragons and fought to rule over the rest once more. But when all the dragons were gone a cold dark wind came blowing out of the North. It froze the lands and waters and brought eternal night to the heavens. Then from those frightening winds of white came strange creatures of white who slew all the beasts and left the world cold and dark forever.

When the tale had finished the King and Queen sat still as stones. The young prince sat between them staring down at the floor his eyes far away. Then as if re-entering his body the king asked even more questions. And so the boy answered the best he could.

"When had you started dreaming this?" The King said to him his voice no longer the grieving father nor the kind Great Grandfather but the old king.

"For about a year. At first, it was nothing I could hardly remember the dreams every time I had them but they slowly came back to me over the course of the day. At first, it was once a month or so but now it's nearly every day." That was somewhat true the strange dreams had indeed started at the beginning of this strange year. But they were never so detailed as he had described them. Still, he kept his tone even and knew to keep his story consistent. If anyone in the seven kingdoms knew when someone was lying it was the two people next to him. The two of them seemed to be living with him but they asked more questions.

Had he heard or been told anything strange by Baelon or had he overheard or read about it somewhere? The answer was no of course. Then they asked if he had any other dreams or recalled anything else from them? Aemon responded that he also often dreamed that he was Agaraxes flying through the heavens. The two looked at each other again and to Aemon it seemed like they were having a conversation in a world of their own.

Then at once the two nodded and it seemed they came to a conclusion on how to move forward. They looked back down at him and Queen Alyssane reached out her hand to cup his cheek. She spoke gently and with grace and love only an ancestor and their descendant could share.

"My Aemon there are things you must know."She said her words were filled with a mother's warmth and the sorrow of giving a child so young a burden so heavy.

"We asked you here to speak of your dreams for a reason." The king said, Aenon turned to look at him and the Queen lowered her hand to his shoulder.

"What reason is that if I may ask?" The young boy said a mild trepidation at the potential answer filled him as he stared up at Jaehaerys's purple eyes and pale white hair greyed from age instead of Valyrian blood.

"Last night we both had a dream the same dream. For a long time, prophetic dreams have guided our family. Long ago when your grandfather requested a husband for your mother. Your granny had a dream just like this." He said nostalgic tone and filled with a strange tension. Aemon almost froze but made sure to keep natural. He fell to his knees and began to endlessly think. Questions upon questions piled up in his brain and he needed an answer. Still, he kept silent because often people will share more the less you interrupt them.

"I believe it was about you little one, I saw the iron throne and atop it a dragon egg. It was bronze and covered in runes and next to it was a red dragon and a bronze lady. Then the egg hatched and from it came a child. I realize now that it was you my Aemon. You wore a crown of black flames and a rainbow shone in the sky behind you. I knew when I saw your pale gold hair and eyes and the day you were born a wrong of rainbow was in the sky." She said it wasn't just the reason she had planned the marriage either but had pushed for Daemon to bed his bride despite their hate for each other.

The conversation continued for a few minutes longer but was interrupted by a knock on the door.

Ser Ryam who has been guarding it called out," Your Grace the servants have informed me that the breakfast feast is ready and all members of the royal family are in attendance." The conversation came to an abrupt halt. The three of them all realized they had all gotten so caught up in dreams and prophecy that they had forgotten the now.

"Let us go together we shall continue this at another time." The old king said clearing his throat.

"Aemon nothing said here must leave this room do you understand?" The good Queen drew the attention of the bronze prince.

"Yes, Granny I'll make sure not to tell a soul." He said nodding his head before leaping down from the royal bed and striding over to the door. He waited for the two to rise and join him before opening it as courtesy dictated or so he thought he wasn't really sure.

"Good now let us go." The wise old King and good Queen rose to their feet Jaehaerys spacifically with a cane to aid him. Soon they set forth to join the rest of the house of the dragon.
