Chapter 29 - Chapter 28: House Selection (Part-2)

Although there was no timer, seeing most students already vanish through the doors made Orin feel the pressure to choose.

If only the crystal could just point him to one, he thought, glancing up at it again.

"If we're going by Hogwarts logic… Valor's Gryffindor, Eclipse is Slytherin, Lumina's Ravenclaw, which makes Mystic Hufflepuff?" he muttered.

"So that means Gryffindor's the protagonist house, and Eclipse is the evil one?" He chuckled at his own theory.

It was just guesswork—Nexus houses didn't perfectly line up with Hogwarts ones—so it was best to treat it as nothing more than a loose reference.

Right now, he was torn between Lumina, Mystic, and Eclipse.

Mystic had Yellow, a canon Pokémon character and pretty cute to boot.

Eclipse had Jessie and Janine—which made it quite a tempting pick, especially if his big sister had been in Eclipse herself when she attended the academy.

But… the House might also have ties to Team Rocket, which was definitely something to be wary of.

Then there was Lumina.

This house fit both of Orin's goals for coming to Nexus Academy.

First—train under the best Pokémon academy in the world and climb to the top-tier ranks of trainers.

As he didn't want to squander the once-in-a-lifetime miracle of being reborn in the Pokémon world.

Second—meet his ultimate crush from his first life's pokemon fanboy days: Cynthia!

She had topped his pokemon waifu list back then, and seeing her on TV was what had pushed him to enroll here in the first place.

Obviously if his luck was good, maybe it wouldn't just be a meeting… maybe even a little campus romance could happen between them? He could only dream!

From what he had gathered, if Cynthia was anything like her canon counterpart, there was a good chance she would be in Lumina. And so choosing it would put him right in her orbit.

Another advantage was that Lumina—above all other houses—represented knowledge. That made it Orin's best bet for securing a spot in the Academy's top three each year… a requirement his Big Sister had laid down as the price for letting him continue his studies here.

"House Lumina it is," he murmured, locking in his choice.

He slung on his backpack and headed downstairs. Professor Oak and Lorelei stood on the stage, speaking quietly while keeping watch over the remaining students. Most were clustered around the house doors, torn between the choices.

An energetic boy slipped through the red door to House Valor. Which clearly seemed a popular pick.

Orin wondered if skipping selection meant you would get assigned a House randomly. Probably.

Not risking it, he took a breath and stepped toward the glowing yellow door.

Its surface shimmered for a moment—was that a sun? A star? A Pokémon mural? Hard to tell. The door slid open too quickly for him to be sure.

He put the thought aside for now and walked inside.

Lumina House has been registered.

The Pokedex in his hand chimed, its blue light flashing as a mechanical male voice announced.

Orin flipped it open. Beneath his name, gender, age, and year, the "House" field now read Lumina—locked in with no option to change it. He tried, just in case, but the setting refused to budge.

With a small shrug, he set the device aside and continued down the corridor—a plain stretch of hallway, though brightly lit.

"Do the other kids hear a voice, or feel something, after choosing their House?" he murmured. He hadn't sensed the so-called "Guidance" of the Nexus Crystal earlier, and the thought gnawed at him. Was he missing something others experienced here too?

But the corridor soon ended and opened up into a vast, echoing hall.
