"Mum!" Olivia's voice cracked like a whip across the suffocating silence of the room.
"What's wrong with Ian? The doctor had done everything… Why is he still bleeding?"
Her small hands trembled as she clung to the edge of Ian's bed, her knuckles pale, her cheeks streaked with silent tears.
I could barely hold her gaze. My heart had already broken in a thousand different places, each crack deepened by the sight of my mate lying so still.
Ian's skin was ash-pale, slick with sweat, lips tinged a harrowing blue.
The bleeding had slowed, but not stopped. It oozed in quiet insurgency from the mark on his side.
His breaths came shallow… faint. As though his body was slowly… fading and I still couldn't be of help other than to just watch from a distance and also lost in my thoughts.
