Chapter 388 - Chapter 40: Ten-Life Saint Mito Uzumaki

Konoha's morning was quiet and peaceful.

Near the east side of the Hokage building, beneath a run-down five-story apartment building, Rinjin stared expressionlessly at the crack-filled window on the fourth floor.

"That's the Fourth's child's home?"

Hearing this, Hiruzen Sarutobi beside him, looking thoroughly displeased, nodded silently.

Yesterday he had tried to persuade Rinjin many times to hand the Nine-Tails over to Konoha, promising that the higher-ups would properly seal the Nine-Tails into Naruto.

However, Rinjin was surprisingly stubborn about this matter, even saying in front of all the higher-ups: "If you won't let me handle it, then find Shukaku and return it to me."

In his view, Rinjin was just being unreasonable.

This guy had already secretly taken control of the Hidden Sand Village. For Konoha to get One-Tail Shukaku, they would not only have to face the One-Tail's resistance but also the Hidden Sand Village's obstruction.

For Konoha, which had experienced the Third War and the Nine-Tails incident, this was simply impossible.

So under the persuasion of all the higher-ups, Hiruzen ultimately gritted his teeth and handed the Nine-Tails sealing task to Rinjin.

Under the tense gazes of numerous ANBU, Rinjin went upstairs and knocked on Naruto Uzumaki's door.

After a long while, a little one who walked unsteadily, with sleep in his eyes and yawning, stood on tiptoes to open the door.

In just one-tenth of a second, Rinjin swept his gaze through the entire interior through the crack in the door.

How to put it...

This room was almost identical to the one he had lived in when undercover in the Hidden Cloud Village.

A bedroom of about ten square meters, plus a tiny bathroom—total area no more than twenty square meters.

The room was a complete mess, with ramen cups scattered on the table, and thin blankets crumpled in a corner of the bed, stained with various grease marks.

Seeing this, Rinjin's brow instantly furrowed.

That old bastard Hiruzen was at it again.

After being in power for so many years, first he downplayed the First and Second Hokage's achievements, and after the Fourth died, he began deliberately diminishing the Fourth's son's presence.

Though this was for his own ruling power and the village's stability, Rinjin still felt quite displeased.

In all fairness, merits and faults existed, but they didn't cancel each other out.

Behind the door, Naruto looked at the tall man before him, his eyes clearly confused as he spoke:

"Mister, who are you looking for?"

Hearing this, the already displeased Rinjin immediately reached out and lightly tapped Naruto's head, saying irritably:

"No manners! Call me grandpa!"

With that, Rinjin turned and pushed away the ANBU who had been following him like a shadow, then instantly flashed inside and shut the door with a thud.

In the small room, only the little child and the old man who called himself grandpa remained.

"Mister, who are you really looking for? My name is Naruto Uzumaki—you've got the wrong person!"

"No mistake. I'm looking for you!"

Rinjin heavily set down the Glass Pure Bottle from his back, producing a dull thud.

"You're Naruto Uzumaki, an orphan, three years old, right?"

Hearing this, Naruto nodded with a blank expression.

Though he hadn't become the Nine-Tails jinchūriki during the Nine-Tails incident three years ago, he still hadn't been told about his true background.

Looking at the dazed little brat before him, Rinjin let out a long sigh.

That old bastard Hiruzen—whenever any issue involved power and Konoha's stability, he became particularly stubborn.

If he hadn't interfered and borrowed the Nine-Tails back then, this kid's life would probably be ten thousand times harder than it was now.

As for Hiruzen's excuse in the original story about protecting the jinchūriki by not revealing Naruto's identity, Rinjin considered it complete bullshit.

In the original story, on the night of the Nine-Tails incident, the entire Nine-Tails sealing operation was completely shrouded in the Fourth's barrier, with only Minato's family present.

Hiruzen could have completely chosen to conceal Naruto's jinchūriki identity while announcing his identity as the Fourth's son.

This would have also prevented Naruto from later drawing snot and long eyelashes on his father's statue in his mischievous "filial" behavior.

With this thought, Rinjin didn't mind the dirty floor and slowly sat cross-legged, supporting himself on his knees.

"Let me introduce myself. I'm Rinjin Sakukata, arguably half a teacher to your father. This time I—"

However, before Rinjin could finish, he was interrupted by the restless little brat before him.

"My father?! Who is my father?! Mister! Where is he? Why doesn't he come find me?!"

Naruto chattered anxiously, clearly very concerned about not having parents.

Seeing this, Rinjin sighed, pressed down on Naruto's approaching head, and spoke:

"Your father is Konoha's Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze. Your mother is the Uzumaki clan princess, Kushina Uzumaki!"

As his words fell, Hiruzen Sarutobi outside Naruto's door, pipe in mouth, exhaled a long puff of smoke, his face full of gravity and helplessness.

Inside the room, Rinjin's words continued.

"Your father died in battle three years ago protecting the village! He was a village hero. As for your mother, she also died in battle alongside your father. Don't ask me about other things—I don't know either. As for why I came to find you today, it's to return something your father lent me!"

After saying this in one breath, Rinjin finally removed his hand covering little Naruto's mouth and looked at the childish-faced boy before him.

Naruto stared blankly at the mister sitting cross-legged on the ground at eye level with him, completely confused.

He was only three years old. Though children in the ninja world matured mentally earlier, he was still only three.

Expecting him to understand the true meaning of death was too early.

Moreover, Rinjin's words contained too much information—the little guy didn't know what to think about first.

"M-Mister..."

"Alright, you'll have plenty of time to think slowly later. Now, let me return what I borrowed!"

Rinjin interrupted the kid and reached out to remove the wooden lid covering the Glass Pure Bottle.

Then Rinjin extended his arm into the jar and casually felt around twice.

The next second, a dull-furred, pitiful little fox was pulled out by Rinjin, held by the scruff of its neck.

Looking more carefully, the little fox actually had nine quite adorable little tails.

Seeing this scene, Naruto's round little eyes instantly widened, pointing at the fox in disbelief:

"This... Mister... this is for me?!"

Hearing this, Rinjin finally showed a gratified smile on his face and nodded:

"Right, this is the little fox I agreed on with your father. His name is Kurama. From now on, you must treat him well like your own little brother~"

Hearing this, Naruto nodded excitedly and heavily, his fingers nervously rubbing together, looking like he wanted to hold it but didn't dare.

In Rinjin's hand, the Nine-Tails squinted as it observed the silly boy before it, feeling relatively satisfied.

Actually, as long as it wasn't Rinjin, anyone would do.

Compared to this ultimate snake-skinned, unprecedented super villain who held it by the scruff of the neck, even Madara Uchiha's hateful face seemed somewhat kind.

Kushina Uzumaki could completely be called playful, cute, and kind.

As for Mito Uzumaki, she was a damn ten-life saint!
