Well, "usurp his position" might not be the right phrase, but that was irrelevant. Snape poisoning Lupin to secure the Defense Against the Dark Arts position did have some plausibility.
After all, the past two Defense Against the Dark Arts professors had both met early misfortunes, giving the old bat nearly half a year of satisfaction combined.
And this Remus Lupin—at least from Glenn's perspective—seemed fine so far. His classes were well-taught, combining theory with practice, and his language was humorous and engaging. From the students' viewpoint alone, this was infinitely more interesting than Snape's substitute lessons, where he'd cram dense knowledge points down your throat in a high-pressure, relentless barrage.
Of course, the sheer volume of classroom knowledge couldn't compare, but if everyone had to choose between Snape and Lupin, they'd probably pick Lupin.
Plus, Snape seemed to inherently dislike Lupin—there was probably some history between them.
So there was motive. But then...
Forget it, none of my business.
After subconsciously analyzing Harry, Ron, and the others' discussion, Glenn had no intention of further investigating Snape's motives and purposes.
Besides, from Harry Potter's description, Snape had handed the potion to Lupin openly in front of him. If he really wanted to poison someone, he wouldn't do it so brazenly with witnesses present. Even if Snape had some agenda regarding Harry Potter, this wasn't likely it. So Snape's actions must have had other intentions.
Glenn shifted his attention to the staff table, where Lupin looked genuinely happy and more spirited than usual. Otherwise, he seemed perfectly normal, currently engaged in an animated discussion about teaching with Professor Flitwick beside him.
However, Snape kept shooting Lupin strange, subtle glances while his quill floated nearby, automatically recording something on parchment.
Hmm, it looked rather like observing an experimental subject.
Glenn watched Snape's magically controlled writing movements and trajectory for a while, confirming his suspicion.
This was indeed observing an experimental subject.
And furthermore...
"Wolfsbane Potion... that's the recently published potion that allows werewolves to retain some rationality after transforming during the full moon."
"So Remus Lupin is actually a werewolf..."
"I see. That explains what happened in the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class."
Lupin's unexpectedly true identity didn't particularly disturb Glenn. Rather, it seemed that Defense Against the Dark Arts professors, if nothing went wrong, typically came with their own issues.
Huh, why would I think that?
"Glenn, could you pass me that cream of mushroom soup over there~?"
Hermione's voice pulled Glenn back from his mental world to reality. He nodded and handed the soup to the girl.
"Ahh, delicious! Don't you feel like tonight's food is especially good? This is already my second helping."
"Perhaps it's because you felt very happy visiting Hogsmeade village today. When you're in a good mood, your appetite increases, and time-wise, we've been walking for nearly ten-plus hours without stopping. Even though we ate lunch, it's easily digested by the stomach. But even so, it's better not to eat too much. At night, all the body's organs are resting, and undigested food accumulating in the stomach isn't good for your health."
Hermione blinked, caught between laughter and tears.
"Is there any possibility I just wanted an answer about whether you thought tonight's dinner was good? But thanks for the reminder—I am controlling how much I eat, so don't worry."
"Though my appetite has grown, my body doesn't seem to be growing much. It's really strange—here is still so small..."
Hermione pouted, glancing down at her chest, then suddenly realized Glenn was still watching her. She bristled like an angry cat, immediately covering her chest with both hands.
"What are you looking at!"
Like a bristling little kitten...
This image inexplicably appeared in Glenn's mind. He silently turned his head away and continued with his dinner.
........................
The lively feast continued for several hours before gradually ending. Every young wizard ate to their heart's content—many were so full they slumped in their chairs, rubbing their obviously protruding bellies to aid digestion.
Then everyone nearly choked on their food when Hogwarts' resident ghosts enthusiastically organized their own entertainment program—suddenly appearing from various places like walls, ceiling, or floor, gathering in the center of the Great Hall, then forming lines to glide around the hall several times.
Other than that, everything was wonderful. It was a pleasant evening—even Draco, who habitually engaged in daily mockery, looked exhausted and didn't bother with his usual group taunting.
How marvelous.
After eating and drinking their fill, people dispersed. Full bellies made everyone sleepy. Hermione, after a day of shopping and extreme excitement, was beginning to feel drowsy. Seeing this, Glenn decided not to maintain their usual arrangement of studying in the library. The two parted ways in the Great Hall, each heading to their respective common rooms.
"Well, good night then—yawn~"
Hermione yawned again, wiping tears from the corners of her eyes as she waved at Glenn.
"Mm, good night."
Glenn nodded in response, then followed the Slytherin group back to the Slytherin common room.
Entering the Slytherin common room, the crowd split up in the dormitory corridor. Glenn was first to enter his room, followed by Draco and Goyle and Crabbe behind him.
"So full, so tired, so sleepy."
Draco had been tormented by Glenn for several hours today, and now after dinner he was incredibly drowsy. Upon entering the dormitory, he kicked off his shoes and socks and dove directly into his soft blankets. With an expression of near-death, he controlled his neatly folded pajamas at the bedside to fly into the blankets, changing into them, then controlled his toothbrush and washcloth to help him with his bedtime routine.
After completing his bedtime preparations, the young dragon's head tilted to one side, and without another word, he fell into baby-like sleep.
Goyle and Crabbe went off together to shower. Glenn didn't plan to rest so early either, sitting on the sofa and taking out alchemy materials to begin practicing alchemy.
The noisy one was asleep, the young dragon didn't make strange sounds while sleeping, the dormitory was empty, and the other two weren't around either.
Mm, truly a quiet environment.
However, Glenn's favorite quiet didn't last long before disappearing.
"Professor Snape wants everyone to gather in the common room!"
Six or seven minutes later, the Slytherin boys' prefect's voice suddenly rang out from outside the door, sounding particularly urgent.
Glenn: ...
Happiness—snap—gone.
