The air around Arthur began to ripple It wasn't sound at first, but vibration. Something in the prisoners of the phantom zone quiet shifted, the blue-white mist around them rippling like disturbed water. Then the whispers came, hundreds, thousands of them. Thin and broken.

"How…"

"How do you walk freely.."

"A body… he has a body…"

"I remember that. The weight… the pulse…"

"I want that..."

Arthur turned slowly, violet eyes reflecting the shapes crawling from the haze. They weren't solid barely even humanoid. Fragments of memory, tattered souls draped in spectral fog. Faces half-formed, eyes like hollows of light. They circled him like moths drawn to flame, yearning and hungry.

He watched one drift closer, its face pressed into view streaks of anguish flickering through the mist.

"Let me… be you."

"How…"

Their hands reached out skeletal, glimmering, intangible. The moment their fingers brushed his coat, they passed through him like air. He didn't flinch.

Then the attacks came dozens at once. Blurred swings, phantom claws, half-formed strikes that sliced through the air but never found substance. They screamed in frustration, a choir of despair.

Arthur raised a hand lazily and caught one by the throat. His grip landed.

The phantom's scream turned into a wail that tore through the Zone like thunder. The mist itself trembled. The others recoiled.

"You shouldn't exist here..." they hissed.

Arthur's violet gaze cut through them, calm and unbothered. "You can't hurt me," he said evenly. "You don't even believe you can."

He clenched his fist the creature shattered into dust, the echo of its scream dissolving into the endless blue-white void.

Arthur looked around at the rest. "This place reacts like a living thing," he muttered. "And I'm its infection."

He brushed phantom residue off his coat, then sighed. "I should leave. Wasting time with things I can't even turn into shadows isn't worth it. And I don't how much time passed on Earth.."

That's when he heard it a deep, resonant sound that made the air warp.

He turned.

H'El.

Or what was left of him.

He hovered in the distance, a translucent outline at first. His features twisted in agony, the world around him bending inward as the energy in his core grew brighter, too bright. The entire Zone pulsed with his heartbeat.

Arthur's eyes narrowed. "He is…"

H'El's voice came, echoing, breaking apart like radio static. "You said I lack will…" His tone deepened.

The glow around him thickened, condensing, veins of crimson and silver light coursing through his ghostlike skin. His eyes ignited red again burning with life. The emptiness around him cracked.

Arthur surprise flickering across his face. "He is actually overpowering the phantom zone…"

H'El looked at his own handsolid now, real. His smile was faint, cruel, awed at himself.

The Zone howled. Literally howled.

The air fractured, blue-white light folding in on itself. The sky tore, widening with every gesture H'El made.

Arthur raised an arm to shield his face, the void bending and screaming around them. "You're tearing through this dimension."

"Then let it!" H'El's voice thundered, vibrating the entire plane. "If I can break this prison, then nothing else can cage me!"

The horizon split open, a crack of pure light tearing across the void like someone ripping a hole in reality itself. The "beings" screamed in unison fear, ecstasy, madness rushing toward the tear like drowning souls gasping for air.

Arthur's hair whipped in the windless current. He could feel the fabric of existence unspooling.

Then H'El was in front of him face lit by the rupture.

"Going somewhere, Earthling?"

Before Arthur could react, H'El grabbed him by the arm, strength monstrous and tangible now.

"Wait you idiot!"

The tear expanded light consuming everything.

And then blackout.

Arthur's senses returned with violence.

He felt impact. Water, crushing pressure, and pain. His body hit the ocean like a meteor, the shockwave erupting in every direction. Bubbles and debris swirled as his eyes snapped open violet light cutting through the dark water.

Above him, a silhouette hovered H'El, breathing heavy, steam rising from his body as sunlight bled through the surface.

Arthur rose slowly, surfacing with him. The sky was real again blue, vast, infinite. Air burned his lungs. Salt stung his lips.

He floated there, watching H'El.

His voice came low, calm, yet irritated.

"You just tore open the Phantom Zone," Arthur said. "making yourself escape is one thing but letting whatever lurked there escape is..."

H'El smiled faintly, hovering above the waves. "Not my concern what happens, You forced your will there didn't you, you are not a simple earthling 'Arthur'. Even Jor-El was very careful of the Phantom zone, something he was very familiar with." His eyes burned crimson again. "Any more bright ideas to kill me now that the Phantom zone itself can't hold me?"

Arthur's lips curved into a smirk, wiping blood from his cheek. "You're basically a Doomsday with extra steps, so I'll just use my usual ways to deal with people like you."

H'El's smile widened. "And what can this usual ways possibly be?"

Arthur's eyes glowed brighter violet lightning flickering in them. "Yeah," he said softly. "It's called hands."

The ocean trembled beneath them a vast, endless mirror of water, Arthur floated across from H'El, both suspended between heaven and sea, their power distorting the very air around them.

The hole in H'El's chest the mark of Arthur's Twinblade pulsed faintly, then began to knit together.

Muscle, light, and energy coiled in on themselves, closing the wound until not even a scar remained.

Arthur's violet eyes narrowed. Self-repair. Not healing. Adaptation.

"So you also adapt, huh?" Arthur muttered, voice carried by the sea breeze.

H'El tilted his head, expression unreadable. "Pain is a memory I choose to outgrow."

A smile tugged at Arthur's lips. "Doomsday wannabe."

They vanished.

The ocean exploded.

A shockwave carved a crater into the sea, sending up a wall of water that reached for the clouds. Arthur slammed into H'El midair, the two streaking across the sky like twin meteors colliding over and over again violet and red lights spiraling, cutting through the clouds, their movements so fast they left scars of energy behind.

Arthur's fist met H'El's the impact created concentric waves of light that rippled across the sky. Thunder followed a heartbeat later.

H'El's hand shot out, and the air around Arthur distorted telekinetic force wrapping around him like invisible chains. The pressure bent the air, water below rising like spears. Arthur's face twisted slightly under the force, then his shadow ring flared black tendrils erupting outward, shredding the unseen hold.

"Your powers won't bind me," Arthur said.

He extended a hand and the ocean rose.

Ruler's Authority bent gravity to his will, pulling thousands of tons of water into a spiraling vortex beneath him. He flung it forward an entire sea becoming a weapon crashing toward H'El.

But H'El was gone.

He reappeared above the maelstrom, a sphere of energy forming around his hand and he threw it.

It struck the vortex, vaporizing it into a column of steam that shot miles into the sky.

Arthur burst through the steam, fist first slamming into H'El's face with such force the air shattered like glass. H'El went spinning back, ripping through clouds, then stopped himself midair, blood trickling from his nose but he smiled.

"Such power," H'El said, wiping it away. "But soon enough nothing will work against me anymore, it's just a matter of time."

The sky behind him twisted. Space folded, and suddenly there were a hundred H'Els, each flickering like reflections in a mirror. They moved in unison, descending on Arthur in a storm of blows.

'Astral projection as well..' Arthur muttered and he blocked the first, dodged the second then the rest hit like a rain of lightning. Each impact cracked the sky, the force sending Arthur plummeting toward the ocean. He hit the surface, breaking it apart like stone, disappearing beneath waves that rose higher than mountains.

H'El hovered above, his eyes burning like twin crimson stars. "You can't win, I am Krypton's wrath made flesh."

The sea darkened.

Then it split.

A beam of violet light tore through the water a pillar of raw force ascending into the sky. Arthur erupted upward from the depths, surrounded by swirling shadows that shaped themselves into wings. Water fell away from him and his eyes glowed, his voice low and sharp.

"If I was trying to win, I would have. I just want to claim you as my shadow in your strongest form."

He raised his hand the air vibrated and all around H'El, invisible walls closing like a vice. H'El braced, his own telekinesis countering Ruler's Authority, two opposing forces colliding so violently the space between them rippled.

Lightning spiraled between them violet against crimson the collision tearing chunks of atmosphere apart.

They lunged again, meeting in the center.

Arthur's knee met H'El's ribs, a bone-cracking impact that sent shockwaves downward the ocean beneath them flattened.

H'El retaliated with a backhand glowing with energy, catching Arthur across the jaw and sending him hurtling backward. Arthur caught himself midair, blood trickling from his lip and smiled.

A deep laugh escaped him amused and almost feral.

"I already have a creature that can adapt…" His voice rolled through the sky, carried by the power building in his chest. His shadow aura thickened and his eyes burned violet. "But I'm not gonna say no to another one."
