"First."
Arthur raised one hand.
He didn't snap.
Didn't gesture dramatically.
He simply raised it.
A dull thump echoed through the living room, then another then a third.
Hidden panels along the walls burst inward as three compact devices detonated in controlled flashes of blue-white light. Not destructive, it was precise and clean. The explosions were muted, as if something had been erased rather than blown apart.
Smoke curled briefly… then vanished.
Silence followed.
Kara spun around. Raven's cloak flared. Even George took a step forward, eyes narrowing as his gaze swept the room.
Arthur exhaled.
"Sorry about that… Batman left some ears."
Raven sighed, rubbing her forehead.
"Sounds like him."
She hesitated, then added, more defensively, "And before you ask why I brought him here he was very convincing. I also thought the situation could spiral, especially with Wonder Woman..."
She stopped.
Arthur had turned away and was pulling on a shirt from the back of a chair.
Raven froze mid-sentence.
Her eyes flicked up.
Then down.
Then away.
"…She is a founding member of the League and everyone respects her deeply, they would mobilize if she is in serious trouble," she finished, voice a shade quieter than before.
Arthur buttoned the shirt and turned back to her.
"No," he said calmly. "That's not what I wanted to talk to you about. That's a minor problem."
He stepped closer.
"There are far more concerning things in the universe, happening as we speak."
His eyes burned violet.
Raven stiffened.
"…Wait a minute."
She walked up to him, slowly, cautiously, and placed a hand flat against his chest.
The room went still.
Kara watched, brows knitting.
Raven's eyes flared purple light spilling outward as she felt into him.
Her hand snapped back.
She staggered.
"I.."
Her knees buckled but Arthur caught her instantly, arm around her waist, steady and solid.
"I'm okay," Raven said quickly, breathing hard. "I'm okay."
She straightened, staring at him now with awe barely masked by composure.
"…It seems you managed to do it."
Arthur nodded once.
"I did."
Raven swallowed.
"The power," she said softly. "The darkness. What I just sensed.. it's overwhelming, it's like an abyss... the moment I touched you I found myself drowning in it, it's a bottomless.."
"When I got her and saw you," she continued, "I sensed nothing. I thought you didn't do it. Especially after you said you might not be you anymore once you merged with that heart."
Arthur smiled, small, sincere.
"Someone was very convincing," he said. "Told me it's you who controls it. Not the other way around."
Raven looked away, lips curving despite herself.
"…Right."
Kara cleared her throat loudly.
"Hello? I'm lost here."
Arthur turned to her.
"I'll explain it in Kryptonian muscle-brain terms."
Kara narrowed her eyes.
Arthur raised a finger.
"I."
Another.
"Am."
Another.
"Stronger."
Another.
"Shadows."
"More powerful."
"More control."
"More abilities."
Kara snapped.
"Speak normally! I'm not retarded!"
Raven burst out laughing.
Arthur did too.
"Okay, okay," he said, holding up his hands. "Short version, I'm fine. Better than fine."
He sobered.
"Listen. I will help Diana if she's truly in trouble. I'll even fight all of Olympus if it comes to that."
His voice hardened.
"She stood up for me in front of her own Father, just for that reason I will help her."
Raven shrugged lightly.
"I'm okay with that. I don't care about Olympus. They've done nothing for this world in centuries... if ever."
Kara leaned back in Arthur's chair like she owned it.
"I don't know much about them," she said casually. "But I'll stay here."
Arthur blinked.
"…Stay here?"
As if on cue, George returned with a silver tray of desserts and tea. He placed it gently beside Kara.
Arthur stared.
Raven stared.
George inclined his head politely.
"Well, she requested this and I can't really refuse Miss Kara's requests, Master Arthur."
Arthur closed his eyes and shook his head.
Kara grinned and grabbed a dessert.
"Here. Your home," she said cheerfully. "If you go, I'll come with you. Otherwise, I'm staying."
Arthur sighed.
"Well… I won't be staying long."
He looked back to Raven.
"The three gods Batman mentioned, I'm going to pay them a visit."
Raven raised a brow.
"Their remains are in a very secure government facility."
Arthur met her gaze.
Violet eyes glowing.
A smile calm and absolute.
"Not a problem for me." then his expression settled, decisive. "Let's go pay them a visit."
Raven's brows drew together immediately.
"Arthur… that's not a simple errand. That facility isn't just 'secure' it's politically radioactive. They know you. They know the League. If you're seen there, they'll assume you're acting on the League's behalf or they'll see it as a Rogue metahuman or something like that. And the League has zero authority in that."
She crossed her arms, tone sharpened by concern.
"They won't see this as curiosity. They'll see it as a huge crime."
Arthur's lips curved into an almost lazy smile.
"Then I won't go as me."
Before Raven could ask what that meant
The shadows answered first.
The lights flickered, Darkness folded inward from the corners of the room like liquid velvet, wrapping around Arthur's frame. It didn't surge chaotically; it assembled, plate by plate, layer by layer.
Black armor formed sleek, elegant, and regal.
Violet lines ignited along the armor's seams like veins of starlight, pulsing softly. The chestplate bore a violet symbol. A cloak of shadow draped behind him, not fluttering, but flowing in slow waves.
Then the helmet formed.
Smooth. Knightly. Otherworldly.
The visage of something that did not belong to any of Earth's myths and legends.
An Outer God's knight standing calmly in a modern living room.
Kara's spoon slipped from her fingers and clinked against the plate.
"…Wow."
Raven stared, eyes glowing faintly as she instinctively scanned him.
"…That's… impressive," she admitted quietly. "And unsettling."
From behind them, George adjusted his gloves with impeccable calm.
"Oh dear," he said dryly. "I believe this will frighten them considerably more. Even if they fail to recognize you, they may very well resort to nuclear solutions."
He tilted his head.
"Strictly speaking, sir."
Arthur's voice came from behind the helm calm and amused.
"It'll be a quick visit, I won't do anything unnecessary."
Raven sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"So be it. I'll give you the location."
"No need."
Arthur turned slightly toward her.
"Just take my hand. I'll know."
Raven blinked.
"…Mind reading? Is this one of your new abilities?"
The helmet dissolved into shadow, peeling back to reveal his face ashen-white hair, eyes glowing violet, a faint pressure in the air around him.
He smiled.
"Something like that."
Raven hesitated only a moment before taking his hand.
Kara raised both hands.
"I'll pass. I'm not good with disguises."
Raven shot her a look.
"I think we established that some time ago."
Kara turned away, cheeks pink.
"…Hey."
Arthur chuckled softly.
"Aight," he said. "Let's go."
The shadows collapsed inward.
Not a flash, or a portal.
Arthur and Raven simply weren't there anymore.
The space they'd occupied rippled then settled.
Silence returned to the estate.
George straightened the tray slightly.
"…I do hope they remember their position, it might invite trouble. Afterall, Demons are far more friendlier than the government." he murmured.
Kara stared at the empty space.
"…Now I regret not going."
