A streak of crimson and gold ripped upward like a missile, colliding with the Firstborn in an explosion of raw force. The impact detonated across the plateau, shockwaves pulverizing what little remained of the broken columns.
Ares burst through the smoke, boots skidding across fractured marble, double-bladed axe already spinning in his grip.
He grinned.
Blood ran down his cheek, his own and his eyes burned brighter for it.
"So," he said, voice thick with exhilaration, lightning crackling along his armor, "this is the thing trying to put a leash on Olympus?"
The Firstborn answered by raising one hand.
The air rumbled.
A gravitational surge slammed into Ares, hurling him backward through three collapsed pillars. Stone vaporized on impact.
Before the dust could settle
Lightning answered lightning.
A bolt the size of a tower descended from the heavens, splitting into a dozen spears mid-fall and slamming directly into the Firstborn's position.
The mountain shook.
Then Zeus descended on him.
His form was wreathed in blinding lightning coiling around his arms. His expression was grim.
"You always choose the loudest entrance," Zeus said, eyes never leaving the Firstborn.
Ares pushed himself up from the rubble, laughing as he rolled his shoulders. "And you always choose the dramatic timing, if this thing is pushing you this far, you are getting old father."
He planted his axe into the ground, lightning surging from his hands into the weapon. The energy condensed, shaping itself into a second blade of pure crackling power along the opposite edge.
"Besides," Ares continued, eyes locked on their enemy, "I couldn't miss this."
The Firstborn stepped forward.
The ground beneath its feet liquefied, marble folding like clay before reforging itself. With every step, the pressure increased.
Zeus raised a hand and the storm obeyed.
A dome of lightning formed around him just as the Firstborn struck.
The impact was apocalyptic.
Invisible force slammed into Zeus's shield, lightning exploding outward in a blinding flash. Zeus skidded backward, boots carving molten trenches through stone.
Ares was already moving.
He vanished in a thundercrack, reappearing midair above the Firstborn, axe raised overhead.
"WAR!" he roared and brought the weapon down.
The blow landed with enough force to shatter a mountain.
Energy constructs flared as the Firstborn formed a blade of condensed void, catching the axe at the last second. The collision sent shockwaves rippling through the sky, clouds disintegrating into nothingness.
Ares grinned wider, muscles straining.
"Good," he said through clenched teeth. "You hit back."
Lightning surged from his body, coursing through the axe, into the Firstborn. The discharge was so intense it burned Ares himself his armor cracking, flesh scorched, but he only laughed harder as pain fueled him.
The Firstborn snarled for the first time.
He hurled Ares away with brutal force, spinning him through the air like a discarded weapon.
Before Ares could crash
Zeus appeared beside him, grabbing his shoulder and arresting his momentum in a flash of light.
They hovered together, suspended amid the storm.
Zeus glanced sideways. "You look pleased."
Ares wiped blood from his mouth with his thumb. "Of course, I just saved my Aphrodite."
His gaze darkened slightly as he scanned the battlefield. "But where are uncles… and the others? I couldn't see them down there."
Zeus's expression hardened.
"Hades didn't bother to show," he said flatly. "Poseidon is grievously injured. Athena as well." Then a heavy pause. "As for the others…"
He didn't finish.
Ares's grin faded, into a much colder look.
"So it's this bad," he murmured.
The Firstborn roared.
Not a sound, but a wave of pure fury unleashed. The sky fractured further, reality buckling as torrents of destructive force surged toward them.
Zeus raised both hands, lightning erupting around him in a blinding corona.
Ares planted himself beside him, axe spinning as energy reshaped into additional weapons, spears, chains, blades hovering around him like an arsenal made of wrath itself.
"No wonder," Ares said quietly, eyes narrowed, "he's this strong. I assume he absorbed the energy of the others."
They moved as one.
Zeus descended like judgment incarnate, hurling bolts that carved molten scars across the Firstborn's already scorched body. Ares followed, faster than thought, faster than missiles, weaving through the chaos and striking again and again each blow was brutal and merciless aimed to kill.
The Firstborn staggered but did not fall.
he howled, power erupting outward in a catastrophic burst.
Olympus burned.
Statues collapsed. Temples disintegrated. Divine blood stained the stone.
Zeus was thrown back, lightning shield cracking.
Ares was slammed into the ground hard enough to leave a crater glowing with his energy.
For a moment there was silence.
Then Ares laughed.
He rose from the crater slowly, electricity crawling across his skin, armor barely holding together.
He rolled his neck, eyes blazing with savage delight.
"I don't care about saving you lot," he said, voice echoing across the ruined mountain. "I don't care about thrones or balance or fate. I can see the future myself after all."
He leveled his axe at the Firstborn, lightning crackling in response.
"All I care about," Ares continued, "is killing you."
Zeus appeared beside him once more, battered but unbroken, lightning surging brighter than ever.
He smirked faintly. "Insolent child."
"You are more than welcome to try." The Firstborn raised his arms and unleashed hell.
Olympus got even more chaotic.
The sky above the mountain collapsed inward as the Firstborn released hell, no restraint, no pretense of balance. Power tore through the storm Zeus commanded, shredding lightning as if it were silk. The air thickened, gravity folding in on itself, crushing marble, bending pillars like wax.
Zeus struck first, one final, colossal bolt hurled from both hands, the kind that would kill any being as strong as him.
The Firstborn didn't dodge.
he walked through it.
Lightning crawled over his body, burning, searing then vanished, absorbed, devoured. The Firstborn raised his great sword, its edge bleeding void and light simultaneously.
Ares hit him an instant later.
He came down like a falling star, axe blazing with condensed stormfire, every ounce of war distilled into the strike. The impact detonated outward, flattening the ground, carving a canyon through Olympus itself.
For a moment, the Firstborn staggered.
Then he laughed.
The sound was wrong. Too deep.
"If I fall to you," it said, voice echoing from everywhere at once, "I will crawl from Hades itself. I will tear through death, through shadow, through fate, just to kill you."
Ares stood amid the devastation, chest heaving, blood pouring freely now. He wiped it away with the back of his hand and grinned, teeth red.
"Good," he said. "I'll kill you twice."
The Firstborn moved.
Fast.
A single gesture and the world inverted.
Ares was slammed into the sky like a discarded weapon, bones cracking, vision flashing white. Zeus attempted to intercept, lightning flaring around him but the Firstborn struck him mid-cast, a backhand of pure force that shattered Zeus's defenses and sent him spiraling.
They fell together.
Through clouds.
Through fire.
Through the broken crown of Olympus.
They crashed into the great halls the ancient heart of the mountain marble exploding outward as the gods of war and thunder were hurled like mortals. Pillars that had stood since the dawn of worship collapsed in thunderous avalanches. The floor cratered. The ceiling fractured.
Zeus didn't rise.
He knelt, one hand braced against the shattered floor, the other trembling violently. Lightning flickered weakly around him now fading, unstable. Blood soaked into his robes, every breath was a struggle.
Ares staggered to his feet, vision blurred, ears ringing.
"No, no, no, no, I can't accept this."
The Firstborn descended calmly from the smoke, boots touching marble without a sound. he walked toward Zeus with calm steps, sword dragging along the ground, carving a glowing scar behind it.
Zeus looked up.
Not afraid.
Just… tired.
"Ares," he said quietly. "Where is Diana?"
Ares clenched his fists, electricity crawling weakly across his skin. His voice came out raw. "She chose the people. She chose to protect them over Olympus. The Amazons and the Olympians you dragged here to defend this… sorry place."
The halls groaned around them, shattered statues watching silently.
Zeus closed his eyes.
"I see. Tell her I'm prou..." he didn't get to finish.
The Firstborn raised his blade.
Ares reacted on instinct.
"No.. WAIT!"
Ares hurled his double axe with everything he had left, lightning screaming as it tore through the air, spinning end over end straight for the Firstborn.
The Firstborn didn't turn.
The sword plunged forward.
Time slowed.
Zeus's eyes snapped open.
Ares's scream tore through the ruined hall.
The blade pierced Zeus square in the chest.
Lightning erupted violently then collapsed inward, extinguished, Zeus gasped, blood flooding his mouth, his body arching as divine power bled out.
At the same instant.
Ares's axe struck.
It buried itself deep into the Firstborn's back, energy detonating outward, cracking, forcing him one step forward.
But it wasn't enough.
The Firstborn remained standing.
Ares dropped to his knees.
"No…" His voice broke.
The Firstborn wrenched the sword free.
Zeus collapsed.
Silence fell heavy, suffocating.
Then
A new presence stirred.
The shadows at the far end of the ruined hall thickened, stretching unnaturally across broken stone. Darkness pooled slowly.
A pair of violet eyes ignited within it.
A calm voice followed.
"What a disgrace," it said, echoing softly through the shattered hall. "Last time I stood here, this place inspired awe."
A pause.
"Now," the voice continued, dry, cold, almost amused, "it smells worse than the back alleys of Gotham." The very shadows shifted.
