Chapter 172 - Chapter 173: Activate the X-Hop Serum and Let the Chaos Begin!

"Heeheehee—It's coming! It's coming!!"

Rebecca's mismatched cyber-eyes, glowing red and green, lit up like a glitching arcade machine. Her wide grin stretched as she clutched her shark-headed machine gun. "Looks like we've got more toys to play with! This is gonna be fun!"

Beside her, Sasha twirled her [Hex Short Blade] with smooth finesse, her feline eyes glinting dangerously. "You ready for some real trouble?"

DING—!

THUMP THUMP!

CRACK!!

The sound of the elevator screeched to a halt. The steel doors slammed open—and out charged eight grotesquely mutated humanoids, snarling and twitching, their eyes glowing with bloodlust as they zeroed in on the two girls.

Any normal person would have collapsed in terror at the sight of these monsters.

But these weren't normal people.

They were Rebecca and Sasha—Night City's chaos queens in mech armor.

Instead of panicking, the two of them lit up with excitement.

"Heehee! Look at you freaks!" Rebecca cackled. "BioLabs sure knows how to make fun little freakshows!"

Sasha narrowed her gaze, voice calm but laced with venom. "I've had enough of this corrupt corporation. Time to tear it down—piece by piece."

ROAAAARRRR—!!!

All eight mutants lunged forward with savage intent.

Rebecca didn't flinch. She laughed wildly and leaped backward. "Last words, anyone? No? Then—go to hell!"

She whipped out a handful of [Fire Chewer Grenades], specially designed explosives synced to her [Project Source: Madness] battle armor. With a flick, she lobbed them toward the incoming mutants.

The grenades hit the ground with a series of digital chirps—and instantly activated into trap beam mines, halting the monsters mid-charge in a net of glowing energy.

"KRAK-KRAK-KRAK!!"

The mutants thrashed and roared—but it was too late.

BOOOOM—!!!

A chain of deafening explosions erupted across the lab. The shockwaves were so immense, they blasted through four entire floors of the BioTech tower. Mutated flesh flew in all directions—torn apart by a deadly cocktail of high-impact kinetic bursts and the mystical energy infused by [Hex Gems].

Eight monsters. Vaporized.

Rebecca landed on her feet, laughing like a mad clown. The passive effect of her armor, [Guilty Pleasure], kicked in—boosting her adrenaline, speed, and firepower.

She spun her shark-head gun and rained bullets across the upper levels, dancing between the flashing sparks of collapsing circuits.

She was the perfect blend of chaos and carnage.

Across the floor, Sasha was already on the move.

Where Rebecca brought mayhem, Sasha brought precision.

Her [Project Source: Ambition] armor glowed faintly with every teleportation flicker. The [Shunstep] module allowed her to blur between enemies—appearing behind one, slitting their throat, then blinking away just before the blood hit the floor.

Mutants enhanced with dark-green serum never stood a chance. They weren't fighting a girl anymore. They were fighting a phantom assassin.

With every kill, Sasha moved smoother, faster—her blade cleaving through enemies like a surgeon with a vendetta.

In just five minutes, all eight mutants were gone.

From the top-floor surveillance feed, CEO Anthony and his team of researchers watched in horror.

"W-What the hell are those two?!" Anthony gasped. "Even our dark-green mutants can't touch them!"

One researcher nearly dropped his tablet. "They're... not normal. There's no way civilians could do this! This is military tech! Maybe... maybe even Arasaka's black ops prototype!"

Another screamed, "Forget that! They're already on the tenth floor! One more flight and we're DEAD!"

Panic gripped the lab. Hands trembled. Faces turned white. The researchers had only one desperate idea left.

"Boss!" one scientist cried. "We have to activate the X-HOP Serum!"

Anthony stiffened. "The hell did you say?"

"It's our only chance!" the researcher shouted. "The crimson variant isn't enough! Only the X-HOP serum might hold them off!"

Anthony hesitated. The X-HOP Serum wasn't ready. Still in experimental phase, the formula was dangerous—unstable, unpredictable, and filled with ethical red flags.

Worse, if word got out that his biotech empire was running illegal human trials using it... his empire would burn overnight.

But the alternative? Total destruction.

The researchers begged. "Please! If we die, your entire research division dies too!"

"We promise—we'll refine the formula later! Just let us live through this!"

Anthony clenched his fists, sweat pouring down his temple. "Fine! DAMN IT! Activate the X-HOP Serum! Lock the building down! No one escapes—not even the test subject!"

With Anthony's greenlight, the lab shifted into high gear.

Emergency lockdown systems snapped online.

In seconds, the entire tower—ten stories of biotech secrets—vanished from public view, hidden behind an advanced retinal illusion field. From the street below, it was like the building had never existed.

While the exterior cloaked itself, inside, the researchers scrambled into protective suits and entered a sealed chamber deep beneath the tower.

There, lying dormant on a steel bed, was a colossal man—nearly two meters tall, muscles bulging, veins still trembling from earlier injections.

Beside him, a vial glowed ominously—the X-HOP serum. A volatile red-and-green compound, still untested.

A researcher whispered, crossing himself: "God help us."

He injected the serum.

BOOM—BOOM—BOOM!

The man's chest heaved violently. His heart pounded so loud it shook the glass walls.

Suddenly, his eyes flew open—blank and soulless.

He sat upright, zombie-like.

The researchers sighed in relief. "He's stable! No visible mutation... we might have a chance—"

SNAP!

A giant hand gripped the nearest scientist's face and twisted.

One slap. One scream. One head spinning 360 degrees.

The man was dead before his body hit the floor.

"The subject's gone berserk!!"

"RUN!"

Researchers scattered, diving into Safety Cabin C, slamming the reinforced doors shut behind them.

The X-HOP subject—who had now swelled to over seven meters tall—marched forward, floor cracking beneath each step. His body warped grotesquely with each movement—bones stretched, muscles tore and reknitted. A monster born of biotech hubris.

He stopped at the cabin and peered through the reinforced glass. His copper-sized eyes glowed. His jaw opened—not to speak, but to snarl, beast-like.

Anthony, still watching from surveillance, screamed into the coms: "You told me this thing was controlled!!"

The researchers babbled:

"Don't worry, boss! It has a time limit!"

"Once it finishes the intruders, we'll neutralize it, promise!"

"The concealment system's active—he can't escape!"

But they were lying to themselves.

The beast raised a massive fist—

CRAAACK!!!

With one blow, the indestructible safety cabin was crushed like cardboard.

The last thing the researchers saw... was their mistake.

And upstairs, Rebecca and Sasha felt the rumble beneath their boots.

Sasha looked at the floor, blade ready. "...You feel that?"

Rebecca grinned. "Oh yeah. Something big's coming. Hope it's as fun as it sounds."

To be continued...
