Chapter 17 - Chapter 17.The clash 2

Kailen moved purposefully this time. His attacks would not be random anymore.

He knew exactly where to aim for. The exchange had dragged on for too long.

Propelled by the tenebrous whirlwind of shadows, he evaded an attack with which the opponent's legs had almost turned his head into smithereens.

Kailen, however, left behind a trail of bright black blood, accompanied by a deafening roar.

The creature did not know how and when it happened. All it recalled was that a second earlier it had attempted to impale its adversary, only to deeply feel one bout of pain after another in its chest a second later on.

Kailen, however, felt the power coursing through his being reduce drastically. Using shadow manipulation, he had transformed his shadow creatures into shadow arrows right after evading the deadly attack of the wyvern, using them to fatally impale the creature's chest as much as he could.

Aided by the tenebrous shadows that danced beneath his feet, he distanced himself from the creature as much as he could.

However, his shadow arrows did not cease their assault. The wyvern's destructive lightning would flow through them and impale them, only for more to reappear incessantly, further impaling its chest.

Its blood dripped endlessly from the skies, showering the now charred barren surroundings further in black.

The wyvern, angered by its opponent's unflinching tenacity, flapped its wings in a strange manner accompanied with a primal roar of defiance.

Not only had it not managed to kill the human that had killed its kin, the human had managed to not only face it head on, but wound it.

Worst of all, the human was trying to escape, just like the last time.

There was no way the creature would tolerate this sickening situation.

Large balls of lightning that immolated the atmosphere formed. Accompanied with sizzling intensity, they fell like meteors, plunging the surroundings into ruins.

The wyvern had gone mad. Any iota of cautiousness it had earlier had been replaced by sickening rage to destroy the vermin that had killed its kin.

Kailen, now reduced to the state of a B ranked awakened, without the enhancement of his shadow creatures, called upon the nearby shadows in the vicinity, forming a shadow armor to protect himself from the lethal lightning strikes that fell from the skies.

Shadow manipulation aided him to narrowly determine the course of the attacks, avoiding them with a hair's breadth.

He glided further away from the opponent, eating lightning strikes that caused him to cough mouthfuls of blood at some point due to their lethality.

''Damnation, it's like I'm a cultivation novel protagonist having my heavenly tribulation. These lightning attacks are not easy to handle.'' He cursed, yet gritted his teeth and held on.

''Just a little bit more, and the bastard will fall.''

His shadow creatures, turned obsidian arrows, were at work.

They impaled the opponent's chest further, causing a spray of bright black to paint the charred, barren environs further.

However, the wyvern held on despite the fact that it was growing extremely weak and chased its opponent, further launching one meteor of lightning after another.

Its sickening tenacity infuriated Kailen further.

''Die, you bastard!'' Kailen cursed angrily, having succumbed to the lethality of a lightning strike.

He gritted his teeth after coughing a mouthful of blood, then reinforced his body with shadows.

As if some sovereign power had decided to answer his prayer, the last arrow, having pierced the creature's chest, caused it to roar weakly.

Its vision plummeted, its flight assumed a compromising demeanor, then it plummeted from the skies like a comet.

The fall shook the scorched environs sprayed in its bright black blood.

The creature stopped breathing. Its regret was apparent even in death.

Not only had the human vermin that killed its kin managed to kill it, its remaining child would also have no guardian.

The shadow creatures returned to their original forms, having fulfilled the desire of their master.

The five shadow creatures stood before the dead body of their master's opponent, awaiting Kailen's arrival.

[You have slain the A ranked terror wyvern. You have obtained a temporal reward since I'm in a good mood. Tsk.

You have 30 seconds to create a shadow creature with 2 ranks above yours. The temporal reward will disappear after 30 seconds.]

Having confirmed the creature's death with the help of the system, Kailen wasted no time, not wanting the system's temporal reward to disappear. He had just 30 seconds.

Quickly, he arrived before the ginormous dead body of the most troublesome opponent he had ever met.

''You guys did well, return to the shadow expanse.''

The shadow creatures paid heed to their master's words, then disappeared.

''Agglomerate.''

Shadow necromancy begun, and soon, a towering 6-meter-tall wyvern boasting eyes as dark as an abyss, with an obsidian form, stood before Kailen, radiating the aura of an S ranked shadow creature.

Kailen felt like he was dreaming. A few weeks ago, he had been at the lowest point of his life, eating leftovers at the lowest point of the human hierarchy.

However, he now had what it took to challenge S ranked awakened.

Kailen was not naive; he knew this was all possible thanks to the system.

''Though this system is brutal, I've come this far because of the system... Just what is the system?''

He couldn't help but be curious about the system's origin and miraculous nature.

He sighed. ''It's been just a few weeks after I awakened, and I'm this strong?... Inasmuch as I've barely traveled anywhere, I can pretty much say that this growth speed is extremely monstrous... I'm confident that with the system's help, I can grow ridiculously strong in a very short period of time...''

Kailen's gaze traced back to the S ranked shadow wyvern.

It flapped its shadowy wings, its long arrowtip tail scratching the ground.

It performed a prostrating gesture to Kailen with its head, gesturing its master to hand it a name.

However, Kailen had only one thought in mind.

''Take me to the location of your egg. I will think of a name for you after that.''

The shadow creature flapped its wings, then with Kailen seated at its thick-scaled shadowy obsidian back, it traversed the sky for a few seconds, then landed afront a cave deep in the forest.

It gestured Kailen to enter the cave, to which he obliged.

A few seconds later, he returned from the cave, and nestled in his hand was a deep reddish egg the size of two human heads.

[You have completed the quest by accomplishing a tremendous feat. Not only have you managed to claim the wyvern's egg, you managed to kill the wyvern.

Rewards have been recalculated. Your time limit in the time dilation artifact has been increased to ten days.

It's a sad thing though that you did not become an unawakened... tsk.]

Kailen felt extremely relieved, having finally completed the mission. He felt like an extremely heavy weight had been lifted from off his shoulders.

To be honest, he was not even in the frame of mind to pay attention to the system's notification and its usual snide remarks.

''At this point, I just want to sleep...''

Awakened at his level could go weeks without sleep. However, the mental strain the dramatic encounters of visiting the wilderness had put him through required that he got some needed rest for his mind.

The shadow wyvern glanced at Kailen with a weird gesture in its abyss-like eyes that hinted at Kailen that it was still pestering him for a name.

''Ah... right... What should we call you... Alright, I've decided. From now on, your name will be Vengeful... That's a name that suits your personality very well... Now return to the shadow expanse.''

The creature performed a bowing gesture to her master for giving her a name, then disappeared.

''Now, system, what do I do with this egg?''
