Emelia, "…."
'It's going to be hell on earth' thought Emelia as she also rushed toward them. Jae Won who had rushed toward them stood beside Vincent as he held his wrist now ready to listen to what these folks were saying. Before he could listen, Emelia was already there and before she could catch her breath, Vincent whispered in her ear "what are your parents talking about?"
"Huh" was the only response she could give because she had no idea what they had said to them for Vincent's reaction to be like this.
To fully understand what happened, let's go back to the moment when Jae Won dragged Emelia further away from her parents. The moment they left, James who was left alone with her parents didn't know what to do as he chuckled nervously at them.
Before he could relax and come up with something better to say and maybe win some points for the future, Emelia's father said "do you like my daughter?" he asked making James coughed on his saliva. As he raised his head to look at his future father in-law who seems to be glaring at him for some unknown reason felt a shiver down his spine.
"Uhuh I do like her ver.." but before he could complete his sentence, Emelia's father immediately spoke up, "don't like her because she already has a man in her life. Don't be the Satan to make her cheat on her boyfriend which they will be getting married soon."
As he said this he turned to Vincent who was busy laughing at the joke Akwasi's mum had said. Emelia's father continued "did they fight or what?" asked Emelia's father as he turned to look at James as though he could know what he was talking about.
James opened his mouth to refute that statement but he was cut off again by Emelia's mother "why did you ask that?" as she also turned to look at them while they were enjoying themselves. But Emelia's father replied, "it's just that our future in-law hasn't even bothered himself to come greet us even though we will be family soon…..did they fight" asked by Emelia's father with the last part facing James who shook his head in disagreement.
This really hit his button as he said "then why is he acting as though we don't exist?" he began to walk up to them as he said "if the horse won't come to the riverside, then the riverside would rather go to the horse" as he said this, James turned to look at Emelia's mother and asked "is that the saying?" but what he got was a shrugged of her shoulders as she also rushed to follow her husband.
James too followed them as he was curious to know what it's going to happen because it didn't click on his mind to go call Emelia because there was a fire about to be lit on the mountain. Emelia's father got to them and greeted them smiling brightly with sparkly eyes.
"Hello my in-laws" said by Emelia's father as he looked at them amusedly.
Vincent, "…."
Vincent's mum and dad, "..."
Akwasi and his parents, "….."
"Oh I can see that you have taken the lead with this marriage thing" said by Akwasi's mum but all she got was silence which was unusual because Mrs. Gladys would have bragged about this long time before they even met.
But the only thing that was ringing in Akwasi's mind was when did their relationship got to the point of calling each other in-law. Even he hasn't introduced his girlfriend to his parents yet and now she was left alone at the cafeteria.
"Excuse me?" asked by Mr. Jonathan as he chuckled in addition. "I'm sorry but how are we in laws?" asked by him making Emelia's father chuckled nervously before he said "sorry my mistake. I shouldn't jump into conclusion as our kids has just started seeing each other."
Both Vincent's parents and Akwasi's parent turned to look at Vincent for confirmation about wat that stranger had just said. Stranger was a big word even though they knew that they were Emelia's parents but what was this word that was coming out of his mouth, 'in-law'.
Not that they wouldn't want Emelia to be their daughter in-law since she is a kind woman any family would want her to be their daughter in-law even them. Both his parents turned to look at their son who had refused to tell them he was seeing this woman he brought to the house introducing her as a friend.
"Were you two dating?" asked by Mrs. Gladys making Vincent unable to say no since he had no idea what Emelia had told her parents making the assumptions they were still dating. 'Didn't she tell them they had broken up when that happened' this were the thought that was ringing in his mind till he felt a hand touched him. He looked and the hand was Jae Won and surprisingly he breathe out the air he didn't know he was holding in.
"Yes they are and it's been months now since she told us when we tried to set a date for her during one of the weekends while she was at your place. That's when she told us she was in a relationship with your son" said by Emelia's mother who decided to answer the question that wasn't meant for her in the first place,
Akwasi's mum, "this is interesting" she said as she prepared her ears to listen more. But Mrs. Gladys was fuming with anger as she said, "So you two were dating right down our noses huh? So you two have been sneaking in to have fun when your parents were there" as she said this she began to run towards Vincent which he unconsciously moved back and this was the beginning of 'I run after you, you run away from me' moment.
Mrs. Gladys run after Vincent who also didn't stand there to receive that beating that was coming his way. Her mother was an athlete even though it's been long but her beating was so much painful than a whip and he didn't want to look like that in front of his babe. So he run and his mother too didn't want to give in as she run after him making the scene hilarious.
This made the crowd who were taking pictures of their loved ones turned to looked at the comedian family who had decided to play here making them relaxed in some kind of way. Someone thought this moment was good to be taken as a memory as he took a photo of the two mother and son who couldn't wait to get home to solve their problems. He even took a video of them and I bet if Samuel was around, he wouldn't missed this chance.
Vincent gave up as he couldn't outrun his mother which resulted to her hitting his back a few times before she dragged him back to where they already were. She gave a huge sighed before she turned to Emelia and said "we are sorry he had to hide this relationship from us. I don't know the kind of impressions we gave for him to make such decisions" as she said the last sentence she was looking at Vincent who was shaking his head but that further infuriated Mrs. Gladys.
"What are shaking your head for huh? What did you take her for, for you to hide this beautiful woman any man would dream to have?" This statement made James who was standing at the side of Emelia smiled which didn't escape Mrs. Gladys eyes but she didn't think much about it since she was rather focused on her son.
"Mrs. Gladys, let him explain the reason why he did th..." said by Jae Won hoping to help his baby but he was cut off by the very same person he was trying to convince and was rather blame as an accomplice.
"You…you knew about this right? You knew they were seeing each other and you kept your mouth shut all along. Come here you too deserves a beating too" as she said this she was walking up to Jae Won ready for him to experience the hands of the almighty. But Vincent wouldn't let that happen right?
He can't just stand there and watch his love experience that hand that should have belonged to a man rather than a woman. Vincent immediately held his mum's wrist preventing her from moving toward Jae Won again.
But the glare he was shot at almost made him let go of that hand but what love can do. The thought of Jae Won receiving this beating made him stood his grounds ready to face his mum but the anger was shifted back at him.
"You better let go of my wrist before I give you a dirty slap" said by Mrs. Gladys about to do what she won't be able to do but she wanted to prove a point. Emelia who was the reason of this commotion stood there and since she had to come out and take charges and also couldn't watch as someone else was blamed for, she had to say the truth and so she did.
"We have broken up" said by Emelia raise her voice to capture their attention.
