Chapter 35 - Elder Ogre

As soon as Sin jumped down, he was thrust into a world of unknown and darkness. He coiled his body slightly, attempting to avoid taking as much damage as possible.

After several seconds, Sin peeked down and noticed a small light coming from down below. His attention focused in on the light and he immediately reached for it--taking the opportunity.

His hand landed on a ledge--the rest of his body dangling. He felt his shoulder nearly dislocate due to the abrupt stop.

After a second, Sin pulled himself up on the ledge and then turned and looked down at where he would have gone.

 Nothing... it was pure darkness.

He turned, looking at the area he was in now. The setting was completely different from before.

No longer was this place a cave. Now, it was a modern relic of history...

He was inside of a large square chamber made of dark stone bricks clearly chiseled by intelligent hands.

All across the walls and pillars of this wide hall were engravings of some ancient language along with carved drawings and depictions of what looked to be historical figures.

Sin took a few steps into the room, amazed. But before he could turn back around, he heard the slow sliding of a rock across the ground.

When he finally turned, he saw that his exit had been completely blocked off by a rolling stone.

His eyes widened, shocked, "Shit... I was meant to jump back in." He muttered under his breath, inspecting the rock.

It was attached to a string and a lever pulley system. This thing was obviously some sort of trap.

Now, with no other option left, Sin turned again and decided to make his way through this portion of the dungeon before making it back to the group.

'I really don't have a choice.' He shook his head, walking toward one of the six pillars in the corridor.

Even the pillars were covered with engravings. There was also a supernatural feel to the entire area, as if Sin wasn't supposed to be there.

Without the ability to read the ancient language, Sin decided to look at the illustrations on the walls.

From what he could see, there was a closed door-looking area at the end of the chamber. He imagined that was how he could move further.

Before he left this room however, he wanted to check it out fully. After all, this place was pretty sick. He wasn't going to waste too much time though.

Kael had just warned him to be careful, and now he was stuck all alone. Sin laughed at the thought of Kael stressing right now...

Sin took about 10 minutes surveying all of the drawings on the wall.

From what he could piece together, he figured out a story told through the drawings that somewhat made a fair amount of sense.

At first, the drawings depicted a group of ogres. It showed how they discovered this cavern through a treacherous journey, and how they made this place their home.

There was an age of advancement, where eventually the ogres climbed down the cave far enough until they reached a massive opening.

This opening looked to be even bigger than the one Sin and the others just came across.

Over time, that entire area was covered with houses and buildings--all created by the ogres. It wasn't anything alike to real architecture, but good enough for the ogres.

Clearly, at some point in time, the ogres had created an entire society down in this cavern.

Eventually, however, another entity showed itself. From the depictions, Sin could only guess that this new creature was some sort of aquatic creature.

The drawings were great--they were in fact quite shit. It was as if a kid had scribbled them up.

Sin could only imagine that the smartest ogre was assigned for this job, but still barely accomplished it.

The creature came from far deeper down below. Hundreds of feet below the ogre's civilization, there was a massive ocean or lake--a body of water underground.

The aquatic creatures swam up one day, devouring as many ogres as they could find.

At first it looked like a mass extinction, but then there were efforts from the ogres that pushed the other creatures back.

For another many years, the aquatic creatures and ogres had a ceasefire. The ogres slowly evolved, becoming stronger as time went.

The aquatic creatures began to become less and less common, and finally, somewhere along the way, the depictions ended.

The final drawing was one of four swords surrounding a single empty throne.

'Pretty damn dramatic...' Sin mused, shaking his head again. All of this information was slightly overwhelming.

After getting to the end of the room, Sin walked toward the exit door that was made of stone and fully closed off.

As he walked a couple feet away from it though, it slowly opened like an automatic door.

'How the fuck do these guys have such advanced tech? It wasn't like this on the upper level...' Sin was confused, but didn't mind it and continued moving forward.

The next room was completely different from the first one. It was far larger, like a round battle dome.

It was also made of chiseled stone. It was round, about 50 feet in height and 200 in width all the way from one side of the room to the other.

At the center was a single sword dug into what looked to be a square wooden box. As Sin got closer, he realized that the box was in fact a tomb.

Looking around some more, Sin felt an ominous feeling about this entire place.

There looked to be nowhere else to go, and this place was way too open and empty for no reason...

But then, a sudden thought clicked in Sin's mind: 'Wait a minute...'

As he paused, a slow creak began to echo through the chamber. The coffin's door was slowly lifting open.

'This place... is a fight arena.'

The coffin door swung open--a hand forcefully thrusting upwards before slamming down and grabbing the side of the coffin tightly.

Finally, a tall humanoid creature lifted itself from the coffin and faced Sin with a demonic glare fueled with hatred.

It was an ogre. An oversized one at that. It walked over its coffin, grabbing the sword that was on top of it and slashing it across the air.

A gust of wind brushed against Sin's face, the ogre eyeing him furiously.

'This thing... it's the perfect size to have used that bow on that ogre I saw before. And there's also something off about it. This ogre isn't normal... it almost looks undead.'

Much of its skin was peeling off, and its dark green skin had turned slightly gray. It had many stitches and injuries still open, hinting at the fact that it's been alive for hundreds of years.

"Welcome, human, to my domain." The ogre suddenly spoke.

Sin's eyes widened, 'It speaks? An ogre that speaks huh?' Sin exhaled, clenching his fists, "Thanks, bud." He said, getting ready to fight as his brows furrowed.

The ogre grinned, "It's been a while since I've feasted on human flesh. This will be the first time in over a century..."

"Heh." Sin started walking forward menacingly, "Who do you think you have stumbled upon? A normal human? I don't give a damn if you're oversized, undead, or even if you can speak. The only chance you have to defeat me is in your afterlife."
