Chapter 43 - Chapter 43- Putting a Foot Down

The knights and holy knights nodded their heads in understanding.

Leaving them on their own devices, Reinhardt headed for the royal palace. As one of the three infrastructural masterpieces in the capital, the royal palace was a sight to see. Standing as a grand construct of blue and gold, the palace gave an authoritative and powerful aura.

"The commander of the Order of the Temple of Light is now visiting." When he entered, a guard grandly announced his name in front of the audience chamber.

"Oh, the Commander of the Order of Temple of Light is also here huh? Perfect, the other commanders are here too. We can now begin this session."

A man sitting on a golden throne spoke. He had long white hair and a long beard, wearing a crown decorated with jewels. His robes were gaudy, and he wore a couple of rings and pendants. In his hand, he held a staff made from a large mana stone.

Every part of his body was decorated with ornaments that screamed of extravagance. At just a glance, he appeared in his forties and carried himself with an aura of a man in power. Who else could this being be but the king of the kingdom of Solaris?

Beside him was his beautiful wife, a woman of unparalleled beauty and mature charms that could captivate an entire kingdom. With flowing red hair, lightly tanned skin, and hourglass like curves, she was the very definition of beguiling.

Unfortunately, her face was hidden with a veil, but that in itself provoked one's thought.

What kind of face was hidden beneath that veil? How could one possess such a provocative figure and still radiate that queenly aura?

As with every man, the moment Reinhardt entered, his attention first went to the queen then to the king.

The slit in her dress that showcased her curvy and soft thighs. Those long legs and toes that were decorated with red dye, even while just sitting there, she radiated endless allure for any man to ignore.

Thanks to [Endless Ardor], a powerful heat surged in his pelvis the moment he saw the queen, but Reinhardt quickly reined in his thoughts and shifted his attention to the other participants present in the hall.

There was Brutus with his big, burly build and features like a lion, Marquis Herman who was giving him a derisive look. Then there were Zargues and Conrad.

Five of the Seven Great Commanders were present. Reinhardt looked around but for some reason, he couldn't see the saintess and the commander of the Lunar Veil.

"It's just the five of us today" Noticing his gaze, Brutus commented.

Reinhardt nodded and looked at the other participants in the hall. Other than the King, Queen, and the five commanders, there were also a bunch of people standing in a position lower than the king but still higher than the five commanders.

Donned in robes that screamed they are people of importance, the bunch of old and middle aged men were none other than the council of elders.

Other than the king and queen, they had the highest authority in the kingdom. Their presence here meant that the topic they were about to discuss was very important.

And he was indeed right, the very first topic they brought up was the recent infiltration of the demons in the capital. Reinhardt listened for a while before getting bored. There was no new intel; all they were talking about was things they already knew.

The perpetrator was still unknown, and their investigation was still ongoing.

"It is also for this reason that we called the commanders to the capital. As you all know, this is a big matter and no one can be overlooked. There were a lot of people who came to the capital that day, and we need to investigate all of them to locate the perpetrator".

Although the elder's words were indirect, the hidden meaning behind them was something that even a child could perceive. That said, suspecting the commanders of the seven great knight orders, the pillars protecting the kingdom was something that was unheard of in the history of the kingdom itself.

"Are you suspecting that we who have dedicated our whole life to fighting and defending the kingdom are in cahoots with the demon?"

Brutus uttered. His aura flaring with his rage. It was only for a second, but even that little caused the entire temperature inside the hall to rise to an unbearable degree.

"Commander of the Order of the Blazing Sun, we are not suspecting you or anyone from your order. Investigating the seven great knight orders is only in just pretence to ease the minds of the citizens of the capital. You should know how much of a commotion the appearance of the demons created. Please try to understand".

The elders spoke hurriedly so as not to enrage the lion.

Brutus snorted "Well, whatever, hurry up and get it done with".

Since Brutus complied, the other commanders had no qualms either. And so, the council of elders asked all the Five Commanders some questions individually.

These questions were simple and only contained things and events that they had done before arriving at the capital.

However, when it came to Reinhardt, their question became strange and personal. For example, one of the elders asked if he was feeling any disturbing symptoms in his body ever since waking up.

Why did he kill the demon in one blow? If he could have prevented it beforehand, and things related to his curse.

Since this was the throne room and the king and queen themselves were present, Reinhardt chose to behave even though he was annoyed inwardly. However, his attitude seemed to have only made the elders bolder as their question, shedding any pretence, became blatantly accusatory.

"From what we know, even the Saintess couldn't cure your curse. How did you break it? What did you have to pay in return? Tell us did you join hands with the dem.."

BANG… before the elder could complete his sentence, Reinhardt put a foot down so strongly that the entire palace trembled intensely.
