After about an hour or so, the demi humans were all set to leave. The return trip was longer than when they came to the borderlands. Not only did they need to avoid areas overflowing with monsters, they also had to avoid places where they could be robbed by bandits.
Of course, the order of the knights and the demi humans were strong enough to fend off the likes of bandits. However, since they were also carrying goods and livestock, it made things more difficult.
Reinhardt planned on avoiding areas that he could sense were dangerous. However, things sometimes don't go as you planned. There were a couple of encounters with beast hordes and bandits who didn't know any better.
Of course, Reinhardt used those encounters to strengthen the new recruits. Another thing that he didn't miss even during their expedition was the knights' training.
