The tremors got stronger the further east Jin ran.
He passed the edge of the apartment district and came out onto a wide road lined with old office buildings, half of them wrapped in vines, the other half cracked open and empty. The ground shook under his feet every few seconds, a deep heavy thud that he felt in his teeth. Dust was rising over the rooftops two blocks ahead, and then the people started coming.
They came around the corner at a dead run, a dozen of them, then more. Men and women, a couple of teenagers, an old man being half carried by two others. Some of them were bleeding. All of them were looking back over their shoulders.
"Go!" one of them was shouting. "Don't stop, just go!"
Jin pushed through them toward the corner.
