Fu Ling didn't see the meaning in causing avoidable trouble for himself and he didn't have anyone screaming in his ear not to go OOC so he naturally skipped that plot. No one could accuse him of 'breaking character'.
The wooden hull of the boat was solid, but not seaworthy enough for his liking.
