Chapter 20 - Sylvia's Night

"Hm…? He's asleep already?" Sylvia murmurs while peeking inside his room toward his bed, on which he is splayed over.

It's already night time. She finished her work several hours ago, and just when she thought to tease him about his earlier words, he had already fallen asleep.

She hasn't been angry truly during the time when he complimented her. She was just annoyed at his timing and with the way he said it in a weird tone. It cannot be helped, he never speaks like that, so the first thing that came to her mind was to kick him.

And so she did.

Carefully, she closes the room and steps back. The idea of teasing won't work right now, though she just wanted to be assured that he didn't take her words to heart or anything.

She starts walking toward her room while closing the lights along her way. The hallway behind her falls into darkness as she continues.

Well, he will wake up fresh in the morning.

After a moment, the door to her room locks behind her as she steps toward her bed. The view of the room is just clean and efficient.

As she takes a seat on the edge of the bed, her hands start moving over her clothes. She grips the hem of her t-shirt, pulling it up over her torso and then her head.

Her simple white bra drapes comfortably over her chest, while the rest of her torso reveals healthy and beautiful proportions of her figure.

The cool night air rustles through the window toward her, hitting her bare skin. She sits like this for a moment, silent and contemplating.

For a second, a brief look of worry crosses her face as she glances down at the floor.

Why do I feel uneasy lately…? Have I ignored something important?

Her mind races after that thought and she starts thinking through the past events of her life. The visit to Marian's house doesn't give her any hint, nor can she remember anything of importance during her shoppings.

There is no debt from the shopkeeper on her. She hasn't owed any money to anyone either, she has been finishing her work properly too, without any delay. So what might be causing her to worry right now?

There have been some tensions with Ryan lately… but they don't feel like a burden. It cannot be that.

Finally, her mind moves further into the past. The dates with Marian, banters with Ryan, the reasons that she gave him, her job, his request. Then, back to the time when she had arrived at his home during that night, the scene is still vivid in her mind. But, even that doesn't make her remember anything.

The memories keep flooding in as she focuses.

My escape… was top-notch. I took care of the logistics without leaving a trace. Nobody recognised me, even the bribes were given without showing my face…

She closes her eyes, a bead of sweat trails down her cheek as her hands reach behind her back. Her fingers fidget with the strap of her bra for a moment before she finally unclasped it. The bra loosens and slowly lands over her lap.

I cannot do anything about it now. So, there's no point in thinking about it. If I left any trace behind, then it would be just a weakness of my character rather than the flaw in my planning. I cannot solve it.

She stands up from the bed. Her gaze flickers down to the bra as it falls down on the floor from her movements. She sighs slightly and crouches down, "I might be feeling tired now… or maybe it's just cold."

After retrieving her bra, she takes off the rest of her clothes and starts moving toward the door. Her hand sweeps the towel from the wardrobe as she passes by it and then she wraps the towel in one graceful motion around her, covering her from the chest down to her thighs.

She steps into the hallway like this and starts walking toward the bathroom. Her previous action of turning off all lights was intentional. In the dark, he cannot see her like this, not that he would try to do so right now.

It's a hassle that I have to keep even my towel and clothes in my room instead of the bathroom. With how things have been going with him lately… that idiot might end up doing something weird with my clothes.

The thought amuses her despite herself. It's highly unlikely that he would do that, but she doesn't trust male hormones enough.

I would beat the hell out of him if I found him doing that, so it's better to keep the clothes away from the bathroom.

After entering the bathroom, she closes the door behind her and unwraps the towel…

Soon, the sound of the shower running starts echoing inside the bathroom. She stands under the shower, her head tilted up toward the falling water as the tension from her shoulders bleeds out.

The water soaks her quickly from head to toe and the blanket of water hides her figure from the prying gaze of the silent walls of the bathroom.

She lets out a long exhale. The thought doesn't vanish fully, but they change into something more comfortable. The reminder of the work she still has to do tomorrow, and the upcoming visit from Chloe and Blair which she has planned.

A small smile appears on her lips at the thought.

Either he would be very happy that I let him be alone with two beautiful girls, or he would be devastated after knowing the whims of those two girls. It would be interesting to see what happens.

…

After some time, she wraps the towel around her again since the bath has been completed and its purpose too. She feels refreshed and ready to take on any kind of confrontation in battle now.

The droplets trail down over her skin and the strands of her hair as she steps outside of the bathroom.

The hallway is still dark as she had left it. The bathroom door closes quietly as she enters the hallway.

Her gaze moves around the hallway once for any sign of movement. But, there is no movement or sound which she can sense right now. She nods once after confirming this, and then starts moving toward her room.

Every step she takes leaves a line of damp traces of her footsteps behind. After passing by the door of Ryan's room and living room, she finally nears her own room door.

Just then, a subtle sound of footsteps came from the direction of his room. Sylvia doesn't stop though, her hand pushes her room door open and she steps inside…

Ryan walks out through the doorway, his palm rubs at his cheek as he squints his eyes to take in the darkness of the hallway. At last, his gaze moves toward the direction of her room, his eyes widen for a moment as he sees the open door…

And then, her door clicks shut before he could see anything properly.

Inside her room, Sylvia leans back against the wood, a faint smirk plays on her lips as she lets out a soft chuckle and murmurs with the shake of her head, "Bad luck… Ryan" And after that, her voice disappears as she moves to sleep.

Ryan, meanwhile, has gone silent. He only wanted to go to the washroom, but now as he navigates his way through the hallway, where he feels the wetness under his feet occasionally, his imagination starts going wild…

When he finally stops outside of the bathroom door, the scent of soap and something familiar floods his nostrils. His shoulders finally drop and he shakes his head in disappointment.

"I… might have missed something very important tonight."
