Chapter 243 - Chapter 243

"Geh—!"

Aegislash hurriedly floated back to the art warehouse. As soon as it pushed open the door, it saw Hikaru, Riolu, Lilligant, and Torterra all staring at it.

"Uh…" Aegislash let out a sigh of relief.

So you're all awake already! Then everything's fine!

"No, there's still something important to do." Hikaru stood up and retracted the electromagnetic shield. "We have a friend… who's waiting to be born."

Hikaru called upon the Connection Tree in his mind.

Since the Connection Tree had said it could help Deoxys be born, then it must be possible. Though he himself had some minor insights into creating life, this process would require Creation Power and the secret potion Max Revive. If necessary… perhaps even the Life Orb.

Hikaru recalled the Life Orb's origin. It was a crystallisation of natural life force. It could activate life's power, raising a Pokémon's strength in battle, but at the cost of some of its life and stamina.

[Note 1: Using the waveguide of Connection, the cosmic waveguide, combined with the Life Orb and the Max Revive potion you created, you can grant the cosmic virus new life. During this process, both the Life Orb and Max Revive will be consumed. Additionally, granting waveguide will sap the user's energy and life. But don't worry – the Connection Tree will bear this cost.]

[Note 2: Using a Max Potion can accelerate this process, helping the cosmic virus "take shape and be born" more quickly.]

[Note 3: Use Rock-type mastery to channel the Odd Keystone, which holds the life wills accumulated since ancient times.]

[Note 4: Give Deoxys fragments of the Trial Rock or a Sun Stone. It will convert their cosmic energy into its own power.]

[Note 5: Your Creation Power granted by the gods can also assist.]

"Connection Tree…"

Hikaru thought of the movie about Aura Guardians. It described how giving your waveguide to another was extremely dangerous, potentially life-threatening to the user. That the Connection Tree would willingly bear this cost was beyond his expectations.

Perhaps, by selflessly helping others, witnessing the birth of new life – this was what the Connection Tree wished to see. To it, whether life was native to this world or came from beyond the stars, all were equally precious.

Normally, Deoxys' birth required high-intensity lasers to irradiate its crystal core to awaken it. But Hikaru lacked such scientific equipment. Only LaRousse City in Hoenn possessed it.

In the end, high technology has its methods, but mysterious science has its own!

"Birth? Wait – what are you trying to give birth to?"

A pleasant female voice spoke up behind Aegislash. Professor Juniper followed hurriedly, panting slightly. Hearing Hikaru's words, she found them strange.

"Eh? You're… you're Professor Juniper, right?"

"You know me?" Professor Juniper was surprised. Though she was a famous professor in Unova, people often only knew her name but not her face.

She lightly patted her forehead. "Ah! There's something more urgent now. No time for introductions… Anyway, yes, I am Professor Juniper. Right now, the citizens of Nacrene City have fallen into a strange collective nightmare. This Pokémon said you could help us!"

"I know. It's caused by Uxie's power."

"Uxie?" Professor Juniper frowned, not understanding the name. "Is that a Pokémon?"

The story of the Lake Trio would only become known in the academic world after Cyrus attempted to capture them and Cynthia published her records. Before that, they were merely ancient myths in Sinnoh, and even then, only the elders of Celestic Town knew their names.

"Yes. It's the Pokémon said to grant us wisdom and memory. The Nacrene Museum carries Unova's ancient history. Though it isn't the oldest structure, what Uxie values may not be just ancient memories, but also modern cultural heritage."

"That Pokémon… it's a Legendary Pokémon from Sinnoh. You might have felt it. The museum's entrance carries an unusual aura – that's Uxie's power."

Hikaru stood up. "Professor Juniper, let's head to the museum. This nightmare will soon end. That's why I'm here."

Professor Juniper looked curious. She raised her suitcase. "My instruments can't function anymore. How exactly will you wake these people from their nightmares?"

Hikaru said, "Just stop the projection of memories. As long as that Pokémon is born, everything will return to normal. But the nightmare's source isn't just Uxie's power – it may also be connected to another Pokémon called Darkrai."

"Right now, the memory projection should have stabilised… because we defeated that Pokémon."

Professor Juniper said, "I've never heard of any Pokémon eggs in the museum. What do you mean by defeated?"

Hikaru replied, "It's not an egg, but a meteorite. Though, calling it an egg isn't wrong. Eggs are sacred. Meteorites and eggs are essentially the same."

Professor Juniper felt very confused. She also noticed the other Pokémon beside Hikaru.

That Pokémon resembling Lilligant… and was that Torterra? Its form and colour didn't match the Pokédex records at all.

Only that Riolu looked familiar.

"Different forms… regional variants?" she asked.

Hikaru nodded. "Yeah, something like that."

When they reached the museum, Professor Juniper noticed the people's expressions had softened. They seemed to be having normal dreams, a stark contrast from their previous pained faces.

Within the museum, the meteorite was glowing. As she watched Hikaru approach it, a strange thought rose in her heart.

Meteorites and eggs…

Could something really be born from that meteorite?

Professor Juniper's research topic was "The Origins of Pokémon." Not as a unified origin myth, but exploring each Pokémon's individual beginnings.

For example, the Elgyem of Unova first appeared fifty years ago. Some believed it came from outer space. Was its origin truly an alien planet of the material universe?

Then there were Roggenrola, often excavated from mountains. During a massive earthquake a hundred years ago, they were found in fault lines, their bodies made from soil hundreds of years old – as if they had appeared out of nowhere.

Or the Golett seen in some places, believed to be ancient golems made by forgotten civilisations. They were crafted from clay to act as servants, continuing to follow their masters' orders thousands of years later. They moved due to burning energy within them, but their true power source remained unclear.

Professor Juniper's research into Pokémon origins focused on these mysteries.

She had proven that not all Pokémon are born from eggs.

However, Professor Elm of Johto had shown that even seemingly artificial Pokémon had classifiable egg groups, throwing their origins back into mystery.

"In distant regions, there are Pokémon that came with meteorites – Solrock and Lunatone. They use solar and lunar energy from space, and know the unique move Cosmic Power."

"Even our Unova's Elgyem and Beheeyem are considered cosmic in origin, but they're hard to catch, so research data is scarce."

"But the hypothesis that space is one origin of Pokémon has been proven true!"

She checked Aloe and Makomo's conditions. Their breathing was steady, without pain, but they still wouldn't wake easily. She looked at Hikaru worriedly.

"Do you mean there's an unborn Pokémon inside that meteorite?"

"This would be an unprecedented discovery. A Pokémon truly born from a meteorite… an extraterrestrial origin moment…"

Professor Juniper was nervous and excited, but still asked, "If that meteorite really gives birth to something, it won't harm Aloe and the others, right?"

Hikaru said, "I'm not sure. If you're worried, I can move it outside. Now isn't the time to care about preserving an exhibit."

Professor Juniper's expression turned solemn. "You're right. The meteorite is just an exhibit. Human lives are more important. Please… carry out this 'birth' outside."

"…But, can I witness it?"

"By the way, how exactly will you do it?"

Hikaru gave an answer anyone could accept:

"I'm a psychic."

Ah, that explains it!

Professor Juniper nodded in sudden understanding.

Wait… but can psychics make Pokémon be born?

Or was this Pokémon special?

Aegislash used its psychic power to carry the meteorite outside, placing it at the museum entrance. Even Aegislash felt an unusual energy there. As Hikaru released his mental powers, even Professor Juniper, a normal human, sensed something different.

Outside Nacrene Museum… there truly was an extraordinary power!

Normally hidden, unnoticed by anyone. But now, with a psychic's help, it finally revealed itself!

Hikaru evenly sprinkled the Max Potion over the meteorite. Then he placed some Star Fragments obtained from the Trial Rock and a Sun Stone found in Reflection Cave on either side.

Next, golden Creation Power radiated from his palm!

That faint Creation Power infused the meteorite. Instantly, brilliant auroras lit up the sky above Nacrene City!

While Professor Juniper marvelled at the aurora's beauty, the meteorite on the ground began to float upwards. Its hard rocky exterior turned to a writhing, mud-like state, forming a hollow spiral of shining light!

"Raa!"

Riolu leapt forward, gathering its inner power. It silently recited its oath. At that moment, it felt three stronger waveguides beside its own: Aegislash's, Lilligant's, and the small Connection Tree on Torterra's back.

The waveguide of a king, a dancer, and the continent!

Aura powers… reside within me!

At that birth moment, the other two Pokémon Hikaru carried – Sawsbuck and Haxorus – also witnessed it from within their Poké Balls, gazing out at the wondrous sight through the red caps.

The moment life first comes into being!

As the old form of life ended, those nearly dead cosmic viruses would reemerge as a brand-new lifeform!

"Grant you willpower!"

Hikaru raised the Odd Keystone. The legendary and mystical power, imbued with the wills accumulated through the ages, awakened. Once, it had caused Virizion to fall into contemplation and slumber. Now, it poured into this new life!

"Grant you vitality!"

He lifted the transparent polyhedron – a unique secret medicine unseen before, capable of restoring a dying Pokémon to full function. As cosmic viruses were a kind of Pokémon not yet fully formed, this potion's power was closer to granting life itself.

The power of life flowed into the spiral of light!

"Finally… grant you life itself!"

The Life Orb radiated dazzling brilliance, merging into the vortex. The Sun Stone and Star Fragments combined with it. Having gained the treasures of life and the power of meteorites, this new being could finally assume a true form!

At that moment, the blue crystal pendant on Hikaru's chest released a beam of light, merging with the Life Orb!

Coiling tentacles stretched out, shimmering with blue crystal light. The Life Orb and meteorite together became its core!

It took on a humanoid form. DNA's double helix became its arms!

A completely new life… was born!

Voom—

The newly formed crystal in its chest changed colour. Unlike ordinary Deoxys' purple, it reflected the blue of sky, ocean, and spirit.

A blue crystal lamp?

If its energy ran low, would it start flashing red instead? Hikaru wondered with amusement.

"It's born… a brand-new Pokémon!" Professor Juniper shielded her eyes from the blinding light, but her expression remained utterly shocked.

"Yes, it's born. That is the true 'Deoxys'… a Pokémon descended from heaven to this distant world!" Hikaru replied.

Deoxys stretched its arms and looked up. The deep night sky was adorned with shining stars – one of them its home.

[Across long ages and space… I am finally born. It was all a long dream. But now… I am awake.]

[I understand. It was the Pokémon of memory and wisdom guiding me. The one that spoke to me in dreams, glowing like a crescent moon, also saved me. They guided you as well.]

[This world… how gentle it is.]

[I must thank you… it was you who granted me true life.]

[I can hear it now. The entire world speaking to me. Endless wills of life calling me, across the vast heavens and earth. Countless stars generously gifting this world… and the mightiest deity in the cosmos personally created it!]

"You… can talk with us?!"

Professor Juniper was beyond shocked. Witnessing this Pokémon's origin could enrich her life's research, but what stunned her even more was that it could communicate with humans flawlessly!

"It must have fallen to our world long ago, granted Uxie's gift… that's why it can converse with us here in the museum."

Hearing Hikaru mention Uxie again, Professor Juniper fell deep into thought.

"Incredible… is it really Pokémon that grant us memory and wisdom? Could even the intelligence of cosmic Pokémon come from it?"

She gazed upon the alien visitor bathed in light. Its silent radiance, together with the aurora rippling above Nacrene City, made it appear so mysterious.

Deoxys descended, gazing sincerely at Hikaru. Its DNA-like tendrils turned into arms as it used psychic power to lift a Poké Ball from Hikaru's belt and held it in its hand.

"That action… does it mean… it wants to go with him?"

Professor Juniper could hardly believe what she saw.

Though it had long been confirmed that Solrock and Elgyem were extraterrestrial Pokémon, their lives were aimless, and they rarely interacted meaningfully with humans.

But this Pokémon not only displayed immense intellect and wisdom, it even wanted to choose a human to follow?

[My state is still unstable. To continue growing, I need to stay with the Child of the Stars.]

[And… this is a destined encounter.]

[Without you, I would have perished long ago.]

[Let me keep listening… to the voices of life in this world.]

Deoxys strongly expressed its wish.

Of course, it had just been born. Its state was still very weak.

Hikaru did not refuse its request.

"Then let's travel together. Who knows – maybe one day we'll journey through time and space to other worlds."

Hikaru's sincerity brought Deoxys joy.

[Battles prove existence. But travel… is to seek life's meaning.]

[So long as I am with you, watching your actions, I will learn how to interact with this world. And I will experience countless wonders. This feeling… must be joy.]

[If you ever wish to travel the stars, I will remain by your side and take you to my home among them!]

Deoxys made its vow. Though journeying among the stars was a dream beyond human reach, Professor Juniper felt dizzy hearing about cosmic origins and interdimensional travels. Pokémon origins were growing ever more vast, touching not just the earth but the cosmos.

She felt both excitement and helplessness, and a strong curiosity toward Hikaru.

Who exactly was this mysterious psychic?

An alien? But from his words… he seemed local.

"From heaven… if only I could go there one day…"

"Mm. To stabilise your condition, I suggest using this as your dwelling."

Hikaru took out a Master Ball. Seeing Professor Juniper's shocked gaze, he smiled. "Actually, this Master Ball is something you gave me."

Professor Juniper was puzzled.

She didn't remember… wait? Suddenly she recalled a conversation with a friend. Her gaze grew meaningful.

So that's it!

The Master Ball opened. Deoxys turned into a stream of light and entered it, shaking slightly before settling in successful capture.

"I'll need to modify this Master Ball, infusing it with special life droplets, like the secret potions…"

Aside from Max Revive, he could add special potions like Revives too. Deoxys had just been born, so its maximum active time outside was—

Three minutes.

Now it truly was a warrior of light.

Moreover, Deoxys was sensitive to electromagnetic signals, which could interfere with its vision and perception, so keeping it in the Master Ball was safest.

The Connection Tree sent its rewards. Hikaru asked if it was okay, and the tree replied calmly.

No problem at all.

It had existed since Unova's land first formed, even before the endless ancient eras. Helping a single Pokémon be born was nothing to it. Unlike the Origin Tree of the World, it wasn't so fragile!

The Connection Tree carried the will of life, not some mere material form. Thus, when people's wills rose high, its power would grow as well.

[Task complete! Cresselia's request 1/2 fulfilled!]

[Rewards: Release Orbs ×5, Star Badge ×1, Dream Badge ×1, Nightmare Energy ×1, Cosmic Power ×1!]

[The Connection Tree increased the total Release Orb rewards.]

Perhaps special Pokémon will seek you out because of this…]

[In Alola's Haina Desert, an alien visitor wields the highest-level Star Pulse. Bringing it Solrock or Lunatone will earn you gifts.]

"The first nightmare is over. Nacrene City is calm again. People won't know what happened tonight."

『Deoxys, the Pokémon from cosmic heaven.』

『Somewhat serious nature.』

『Met at Nacrene Museum.』

『Accepts all flavours.』

『Meticulous.』

Hikaru gazed into the distant sky. A pale light was spreading there.

Sunlight pierced the night. Dawn silently swept across the horizon.
