After Viel was swallowed by the darkness, the remaining Team Plasma grunts were left without a leader. They trembled in fear at the sight of the massive dragon that had appeared before them. When they heard Viel muttering about the "Legendary Dragon," fear struck deep into their hearts.
The Legendary Dragon—the Pokémon from the founding myth of Unova—was said to be a partner meant only for a king!
So why... why would it appear by the side of some random young trainer?
What's more, Lord Viel's Pokémon had been defeated in an instant! There was no doubt—this fire-breathing dragon had to be Reshiram!
The grunts immediately scattered like frightened birds, fleeing down Route 7. Even in their panic, they still remembered to toss out as many flyers as possible along the way.
"They're not done yet—they're planning to hold a speech at the Celestial Tower! These bastards...!"
Furu picked up a flyer and grew visibly anxious, then looked toward Hikaru. "Thank you for coming to help! But it's not over yet—I have to get to the Celestial Tower right now!"
She was clearly shocked by the appearance of the Legendary Dragon, but something more urgent had taken precedence.
"Miss Shauntal! I don't know why you're here with this Trainer, but I need to go on ahead!"
"Ah—Furu, wait!" Shauntal reached out, but Furu had already run off, leaving her exasperated. "That girl is always like this... Whenever something involves the Celestial Tower or Flying-type Pokémon, she charges right in. Team Plasma must be trying to exploit the mourning for Pokémon to push their agenda again..."
"And besides… that's not the Legendary Dragon."
"Awoo~"
Walking Wake licked Shauntal's cheek, letting out a low, rumbling laugh, eyes half-closed with smug satisfaction.
Not a legend? Hmph?
"There, there, of course you're a legend, okay?" Shauntal, unable to resist the lick assault, gave up and hugged the Pokémon's head. She hadn't expected that this one actually seemed to like her.
"Yoooh~"
Sawsbuck tugged on Hikaru's sleeve with its mouth, urging him to hop on its back—it was time to head for the Celestial Tower immediately.
"Miss Shauntal, I'm heading off first. You should come a little later—Furu left, so now you're in charge of cleaning things up here!"
"Ah! That's so unfair! Manager, wait for me!"
Shauntal watched Hikaru ride off into the distance, Walking Wake bounding after him with swift clawed steps.
Shauntal, on the other hand, was quickly surrounded by the enthusiastic townspeople.
"That's Shauntal of the Unova Elite Four! I've seen her on TV!"
"It's thanks to Miss Shauntal that our Pokémon weren't taken!"
"Please sign this for me, Miss Shauntal! I've read all your novels—I'm a huge fan!"
——
At the far end of Route 7...
A fierce wind howled with thunder, and a torrential downpour battered the land!
N stood upon a raised platform, arms outstretched, embracing the storm. The dark light spilling through the clouds was the sudden white flash of lightning. In that moment, N looked like a statue carved from wood or stone.
The storm had come swiftly—and amidst the roiling sea of black clouds, two clashing divine forms emerged!
The Forces of Nature had taken their Incarnate Forms.
Tornadus, the bringer of storms, had a green, muscular body and white, wavy hair, with pointed mustache and sharp green ears. Its lower half was shrouded in cloud, and a long, curled purple tail with yellow swirls coiled out from the storm.
Thundurus, the bringer of lightning, had spiky white hair and a purple horn on its forehead. Blue spikes jutted from the sides of its head. Its sky-blue body was muscular, and its lower half too was enshrouded in cloud. From within it swung a long, chained purple tail shaped like a thunder-flail, each orb tipped with sharp spikes.
The dark clouds rolled like ink across the heavens. The two gods of storm clashed amid wind and lightning!
Tornadus, wrapped in a spiraling gale, swept through the forest and tore trees out by their roots. Rain was slashed apart by razor-sharp wind.
Thundurus, its horn flashing with blinding light, called down bolts of thunder that scorched the mountaintops and left blackened craters webbing the land.
Leaf Storm! Cold winds powerful enough to make the body tremble violently. Sometimes lowers the target's Speed!
Wildbolt Storm! Calls forth stormclouds and unleashes a fierce barrage of lightning and wind. May cause paralysis!
The battle was like something from the dawn of the world. Anyone who witnessed it would be awestruck by the sheer divine might!
To the people of ancient times, the power of Legendary Pokémon was enough to bring about changes in the heavens and earth. That was a power worthy only of gods!
"The Gods of Wind and Thunder... They say these two fly across the skies of Unova, and their turbulence is what stirs the atmosphere, allowing the seasons to cycle..."
N watched in awe. Every time the Forces of Nature met, they fought. Their battles brought wind and lightning that could destroy forests, raise tidal waves, and burn crops.
In Mistralton, it wasn't unusual for them to cross paths on Route 7.
And whenever their clash escalated beyond control—legend spoke of a third god descending to quell the fight: the Ground-type Landorus.
N stared up at the turbulent sky, heart pounding. The battle raged fiercer by the moment.
But... Landorus did not come.
His heart sank.
"Looks like their battle won't summon Landorus this time... Even with wildfires, uprooted trees, and destruction everywhere... the god of fertile lands hasn't shown up."
N, of course, had no way of knowing: Landorus had been delayed at the Ancient Castle, its energy still depleted. It had gone elsewhere to recover, pushing back even the planned "Harvest Festival."
"Well then... two is enough."
N's green hair whipped in the storm. His eyes gleamed with calm clarity. He raised his hands, and pale green light formed in his palms—the power that allowed him to resonate with Pokémon.
The thoughts of the Forces of Nature flowed into him!
He closed his eyes and synchronized with the spiritual frequencies of the two Legendary Pokémon.
Tornadus sought the freedom of the wind.
Thundurus yearned for the sharp flash of lightning.
Their clash was nothing but the endless cycle of ancient fate!
When they fought, they lost all sense of the world around them. They didn't care about anyone else's lives. They fought to prove who was stronger—who was the master of the skies!
This was the nature of the wild gods of cloud and storm!
"Stop this! Your rage only brings ruin to the life that grows upon this land! Power that causes disaster is meaningless!"
N's words didn't just reach ears—they reached hearts. Even for the gods soaring above, his voice was heard.
But the gods scoffed.
Hmph! Wind and lightning were proof of their strength—who was this powerless human to lecture them?!
"I knew it... I can't settle this with words alone. You won't listen. Then... I'll use the way I've recently learned—through battle!"
"I challenge you! If you lose, then lend me your power—become my strength!"
Even N was surprised to hear himself say that. Ever since he unlocked the "heart of battle" on the Battle Subway, he'd realized—battle was a powerful way to understand others.
Especially with beings like these two—words alone wouldn't work. To earn their respect, he'd have to beat them.
Tornadus and Thundurus exchanged glances. Their eyes filled with mocking amusement.
So what if you can talk to Pokémon? You're just another psychic freak!
You want to battle us? You've got a lot to learn, human!
Tornadus launched an "Air Slash"—but under its claws, it looked more like a spinning blade of storm!
Thundurus slammed its tail, summoning a blinding bolt of lightning aimed straight for N!
"Please—lend me your strength, my friends!"
For this moment, N had spent days traveling across the region, gathering powerful allies. This was the battle that would prove his beliefs—and this was his chance to win over the Forces of Nature!
He couldn't afford to lose. Not after witnessing his battle.
N knew it in his heart—weak Pokémon would not suffice. If he lost here, he'd just be scolded again, and his resolve would falter.
So he needed the strongest Pokémon he could find!
Tornadus and Thundurus grew even more enraged!
Enough talk—if you want a fight, you'll get one!
For now, they would cease their sibling rivalry and team up to beat this arrogant human to the ground!
...But wait.
Something was off.
Their eyes suddenly turned toward the horizon.
Landorus?!
They scanned the distance, tense—but after a few moments, they saw no sign of him. Were they just imagining things?
No—wait!
Thundurus: "Bolt! (That's Landorus's power!)"
Tornadus: "Torn! (That's his emissary!)"
Their expressions twisted. It was true—there were many shrines across Unova that worshiped Landorus. Some villages, like those on the Abundant Shrine or the Cloud Trio Island, were even protected by his blessing.
But this was different.
This visitor was no mere priest—he bore Landorus's blessing. He had been recognized as Landorus's official agent!
Wait—so this battle wasn't enough to make him show up? Did that guy think his messenger alone could defeat both of us?!
How laughable!
"We brothers fight as one—none shall stand against us!"
"Bolt!!" Thundurus pointed into the distance, then glared at N. They had a proposition.
"You're saying... you want me, as your agent, to battle Landorus's agent?"
The gods laughed.
Yes! Let the agents fight! Let power be proven in combat! If you want our respect, defeat the Earth God's messenger!
N's eyes flickered. He had an idea who it was—Team Plasma had already reported that no outsiders had entered Mistralton. So that emissary had to be someone from within...
"I understand now. I know who he is. And if you want me to fight him, then I need your full cooperation."
He spoke to the gods again, from the heart.
"I don't know when he received Landorus's favor, but I'm not surprised. He's strong. I've never battled him, but I can feel it—he's much stronger than me. If you don't help me, I won't stand a chance. He has a Pokémon said to be a King."
Both gods jolted!
Wait... did he just say...?
A King?!
Old memories surged forth. A century ago, kings and their Pokémon were everywhere—chosen by Arceus himself, touched by the light of the Sinnoh Sovereign.
Could a King have arisen again in Unova?! Impossible!
"Fuhahahaha!"
Tornadus broke into laughter, elbowing Thundurus with delight.
This just got way more fun, bro!
Not only is that guy Landorus's agent—he's also the caretaker of a King Pokémon?
It's been a hundred years since we met someone like that!
Remember that girl who used to chase us down back then? She was also a messenger of the Sinnoh Sovereign! Time to settle some ancient scores!
"Wahaha!"
Thundurus joined in the laughter.
Both gods folded their arms, casting mocking eyes at N.
From the start, they had sensed something—N's energy felt similar to the ruins beneath the sea. There were many humans who could talk to Pokémon, but N's power was special. It was rooted in Unova.
So... a human king will face the god's messenger?
Now that is interesting!
"Bolt!"
"Torn!"
Very well—we shall lend you our power, the great winds and thunder! Use it to strike down the Earth God's champion!
But...
A trace of confusion still lingered in their eyes.
Because beyond Landorus's blessing and the whispers of a King, they sensed... something else.
Another power.
One born to command the sky and the storms.
It came from someone far away—but it made them yearn for it. Desperately.
That power… if they could obtain it, they could transcend even further.
