Chapter 16 - A Giant Skeleton?

Chapter 16

Third POV

Aisha spent the next two hours circling around Emma, who was still very much asleep and shaking in her sleep, the middle aged woman wanted to help comfort her but decided to keep guard up. The moonlight shined on the scarred ground she was on, Aisha felt like something was wrong with the way the moon shined near the trees, as she looked closely at the planetary object in the sky, it looked like black lines were forming around it, as the lines made a smile, a very eerie smile as it looked upon her. Aisha didn't know what to do, it was a whole new type of demon she was looking at. "Why? Hello there mortal. You seem to have a little one on you. Not yours, considering she has tanned skin and yours is olive. Don't try to move." It told her, as Aisha tried getting to Emma, she had to make sure, she was safe, but she had to think about herself too. So, she chose herself, running away quickly as a defenseless Emma was still on the ground and woke up. She looked at the moon and faltered back, as its luminous silver rays looked dark now, the plants around her were slowly dying. The moon seemed to be moving closer to her, making her move back even faster, despite falling down from the log she was sleeping on.

"Hmmm, you wouldn't mind if I drained a bit of yo-" It was cut off by an arrow sent through its eyes, making it use its other eye to glare at Emma, but she had no weapon on her. So, it make the creature wonder who did it, but before it could, another pierced its other eye, making it lose its balance as it landed on the ground, making a huge hole in where it landed in. "You, okay kid?" Aisha asked her, making Emma clutch to her leg, she was frightened. 'She can't catch a break, can she?" She thought, lighting the next arrows and aimed it at the demon, as it burned. "What was that?" Emma asked her in a shaky tone. "A demon, a different one." The middle aged woman mumbled, watching as the sky also turned into a red blood color, birds flying in the sky had their feathers darken, they screeched in fear, dropping down as the color spread through them. Emma could tell that they were suffering, as she looked at the birds, hearing their bones crack and bend in some ways that she thought to not be possible.

The birds slowly stood up on their own, their skin looked pitch black as their beaks looked even sharper, their feathers seemed to have become sharper, and their eyes were no longer present in their sockets. Looking into their eyes was like staring into a void and having it stare back at you, making you feel a huge feeling of dread and fear which would paralyze you on the spot. "You thought it would be easy to defeat me like you did to the other yesterday, very foolish of you." The moon started to emerge from the ashes, floating over their heads but moving backwards into the sky, allowing the birds to the work for it. The birds spread their wings, sprouting a lot of feathers that flew in their direction, making Aisha grab Emma and leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the projectiles, she landed back on the ground, not even staring at the damage they caused, as the sound of falling trees from behind her was more than enough to tell her that she should continue to evade the feathers. Emma's lips quivered, scared and unsure why she was there.

It didn't make any sense as she knew that monsters and fellow like creatures didn't exist, as if they did, the extinction of the human race was guarantee. While Emma was processing everything she was staring at, Aisha continued to dance around the feathers shot from the birds from every direction, walking and leaping on trees to avoid getting hit. She paused after the birds stopped shooting, the birds were deprived of their feathers, leaving them naked and a disfigured sight, which made Aisha want to puke but she held it in. The birds eventually fell to the ground, seeming to have spent most of their energy on attacking. The moon demon chuckled from its spot in the sky, which sent a shudder down both females' spine. They could tell things were going to get worse, just from the chuckle alone.

They were absolutely right.

The sound of bones snapping filled the air, as the spine of the birds ripped themselves out of the skin that coated them properly, the rest of the bones in them came out, leaving visible holes in the skin of the birds, the birds were clearly dead and the duo could end up just like them, as the collective bones and spines started to combine and build themselves on their own, forming a brand new skeleton, one without skin on top of it or organs on the inside, the skull was being made with Aisha, firing away lighted arrows on it but unfortunately for her, the skeleton seemed to be fireproof, as the hand removed the arrows that were stuck in its legs.

After they were done, the bones were nearly on the same height of the trees in the forest, they started to move towards them, the skeleton's weight made it slow, but its footsteps were like thunderclaps as it moved forward, grabbing a bird from the sky and crushed it to death with its hands, the blood dripped from the corpse to its hand, as the skeleton seemed to be absorbing it, as it started to change color. The skeleton went from white to red, tossing the corpse in its hand, looking intently at Emma and Aisha, despite having no eyes in its eye socket. Its jaw moved, looking ready to speak to them, grabbing one of the trees and spoke one word that made Emma want to die on the spot.

"Food."
