Chapter 20 - MiSide — 1

Guess what chat, my semester break has started, finished my exams and everything. A full week of vacation. I can probably wrap up this arc within that timeframe.

Also watch the Chainsaw Man movie, itnis PEAK, literally movie of the year, should have received an Oscar.

—★—

The world of Miside, an indie game

developed by two drunk dudes from Russia that skyrocketed in popularity not long after it's release.

It's a Horror game disguised as a rom-com, but it could also be vice versa. Its popularity stemmed from the female lead and her many versions in the game.

Mita, the original. Cappie the fan favourite, and a bunch more tragic heroines present in the game.

Kenji's goal for this scenario was simple; Save them all.

Because Kenji does what Kenji does, though he couldn't be called a "Hero" in the literal sense, he still has to fulfill his Protagonists duties.

Speaking of Kenji, where is he right now, you might ask? He's currently.... Playing Dance Dance Revolution..?

—★—

"Woahhh~!" Mita clapped her hands while watching Kenji move, his movement skilled and precise, as if he had played this game a thousand times before.

His feet moved like a blur, hitting every note to perfection. What a dang nerd.

As the level neared its end, Kenji exaggerated his moves, as if to look cool Infront of Cappie.

"Heh." Kenji posed as his foot struck the pad, cringely as it was, it was most certainly tuff.

"Do you see my skill now, my dear Cappie? You cannot best me in dancing." Kenji boasted to the point where his nose would started growing.

Cappie lightly gnashed her teeth, "Kuh... It's hard to admit but you're right." She said with a pout.

"Worry not, skill issue is temporary." Kenji said with a slight smirk.

After that little fiasco, Kenji decided to explore the small house. He started with the kitchen, it was decently sized and packed with everything one could need. A fridge, storage cabinets, a Mita poster next to the table, an oven with a chainsaw inside it.

Everything.

Kenji hummed, it was exactly like in the game, not one thing out of ordinary. He grabbed the spoon that was near the kitchen sink and put it in his pocket.

"Cappie?" Not liking how silent it was, Kenji called out to her.

He waited a few seconds with no response, he opened the the door leading to the living room to see that Cappie had disappeared.

Kenji checked the surroundings, nothing had changed. Cappie had disappeared as if it was just the wind.

Kenji slowly walked across the living room and headed to the bedroom door. With a slight tug, the door opened.

It was Mita's room.

Kenji checked the bathroom, still no sight of Cappie.

Kenji ignored the strange voodoo and grabbed the cogwheel on the sink, as he grabbed it, he checked himself out in the mirror.

"Damn, I'm pretty handsome."

The mirror actually had no reflection.

Being done with his self-glaze, Kenji got out of the bathroom and back to the bedroom he was.

He inspected the small bedroom, there was a computer near the bed, with a gaming chair next to it.

"A decent set-up." Kenji hummed, he eyed the figurine next to the clock. Another version of Mita.

He grabbed a pen that was on top of a small drawer next to the door and slowly made his way to the last point of interest.

The cabinet.

If Kenji was right, then this cabinet SHOULD, hold a number of cartridges with past players inside of them.

He grabbed the handle and pulled, seeing as there was a slight resistance he pulled harder and the door finally opened.

His eyes slightly widened at the sight of what was inside the cabinet.

A whole lot of nothing.

He lightly closed the door and walked towards the strange contraption that was in the middle of the room.

"So this is the transportation device." He averted his gaze to the monitor attached to it.

"Version 1.5 huh..."

"So you want me to play the game legitimately is that it?" A smile formed on Kenji's face as he arranged the spoon, the pen, and the cogwheel on a pad.

He clicked a red button that was attached to the pad as a sky colored glow surrounded the items, circling them.

"Fine then, I'll play your game." He clicked another button and to his right, the transportation device activated.

He walked towards it and positioned himself in the middle of the devices, his surroundings started glitching, and before long his vision was painted white.

He waited a few moments, and as the bright light subsided, he opened his eyes. As the beeping of errors started entering his ears.

He was now in another version of Mita's room, but now it was dark as hell.

He stepped over the transportation pad and checked the monitor.

[Transportation failed. Insufficient power.]

He noticed that the battery could that were supposed to be there were gone so he went to look for them.

He checked the bathroom first.

His eyes shifted to the area where the toilet was, next to the toilet paper a set of words started writing themselves.

Don't you see me?

Wanna play?

Kenji ignored them and checked the cabinet that next to the bathroom sink.

"First battery secured." He took the battery and swiftly made his way outside the bathroom.

As he opened the door, what met him was not the bedroom, but a long, dark hallway.

Words scribbled themselves into the walls again. This time, asking Kenji who he was.

Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you?

It repeated over, and over.

Kenji lightly raised his heel and with a flicker, made his way across the hallway where the exit was.

He opened the door and found himself inside the kitchen. He made his to the sink where the second battery was, and as he grabbed it he looked at the fridge.

As he did, the letters that were stuck on the fridge suddenly fell down.

Kenji bent down and grabbed the fallen letter, assembling them back again to form the message.

I LOVE U

"I love you too." He said with a light chuckle.

He opened the fridge and found the third battery, he grabbed it and opened the door to the living room. He heard the buzzing of flies before he stepped out of the kitchen.

He found himself in the living room, it's lights dim and flickering. He realized he forgot to turn on the power.

So he did, he went to the fuse box and flipped the power switch on before making his way towards the TV where the fourth and final battery was.

The static of the radio was eerie, so he turned it off and grabbed the battery, finally entering the bedroom again and assembling the batteries from memory.

Seeing as it was all done and dusted, he pressed the button again and stepped on the teleporting pad.

And like last time, his surroundings glitched and he was flashbanged again. As the light subsided, he stepped out of the pad and checked his surroundings.

"Nothing out of the ordinary... So I'm at Version 1.9 now huh.." He walked towards the large cabinet in the room. And as he was about to open it, he sensed something materializing behind him.

He halted hand and turned his head.

"Hello, Kenji." A voice, he had heard many times before.

"We finally meet! I'm so excited!"

"Mita..." His gaze softened, so there she was.

Once one of the many women of his dreams.

The Yandere of Miside.
