From the moment she came down the stairs with me to the carriage ride over he couldn't stop looking at her, well Sol kept complaining why she had to wear something so 'womanly' at a ball full of men, she just kept rolling her eyes at what he was saying and then reminded him that even in that dress she could still beat his ass in to the dirt and that made him shut his mouth. Well, my true reasons in dressing Cat this way was to see if my theory was right and this just confirms it.
"Yes we shall." I say as I smile to myself. Then we walk in.
But a thought still wrestle at the back of my mind. If so much has changed does that meanthe time line for the prophecy changed too.
And if so how much has it and what will happen this time around?
"Is this a ball in the Capital?" Sol ask wide eyed as he looks around the room like his a little boy in a toy shop.
"And the food!" He continues. I roll my eyes.
"You do know that we also hold ball back in RavenCrest even more extravagant than this." I said
" I know but it's not in a hall like this."
"Hey! What's wrong with our hall?"
"Nothings,… your Grace… our hall is good no,no it's wonderful filled with happy…memories" he grins at me as I narrow my eyes at him.
"I think what he is trying to say is that the Capital ball have that extra finesse that you can't find in the country side." Ajax said as we walk around the room.
"Exactly!- wait no!" Sol quickly questioned but the back tracks after hearing what Ajax meant. "That not what I meant." Cat slaps him on the arm to tell him to shut up as Ajax grins.
As the ball commences we decide to stop somewhere near the back of the ball room by the balcony doors. This place is still the same with the large chandeliers that hang off the ceiling, gold, white and black everywhere with some priceless paintings and antiques that you can't find anywhere else and right up the front of the room the Sun Emperor throne. Still as blood red and majestic as ever and the nobles, I still remember they faces as they walk pass us. Looking at us like we don't belong, like we are lower than the servants in this ball just like before.
"Well this is a warm welcome." Cat says as she grabs a drink from a passing sever and downs it to calm her nerves.
"Are they alway like this?" Sol asks as another nobles walks passes us with his nose up in the air.
"Yes, and don't expect it to change. Even though you are the Duchess of RavenCrest and you rule the home land of the Saint to them you are still an outsider." Ajax said with a board expression on his face.
"Well since you the Count now don't you have noble…friends or something?" I say.
Ajax scrunches up his nose in disgusts like I threw up all over his shoes or something.
"What makes you think I will ever give the time of day for a pebble in my shoe." Ajax said as he snaps his fingers to a server signalling him to come to him. The man come a server him a drink.
"Isn't that a bit cold." Sol says with a concern look. While Cat and I sigh as we look forward into the crowd knowing that Ajax behaviour is nothing new to us.
"Your brothers cute." Ajax grins at Sol as he raises his glass to him then drinks.
"Wait did yo-"
"Don't expect anything warm from him Sol. You know how he is just focus on you job. Protect her Grace the Duchess." Cats says without looking at her brother. He clams his mouth shut then look forward ending the conversation.
"That's it? Wel that sucks now I'm bored" Ajax complain. I look up at him with the corner of my eye to see him still drinking his glass of champagne then I look back to the crowd that is still glaring at up.
"Ajax why did you?" I asked.
"Why did I what little flame?"
"Why did you make friends well I was gone? I mean brother and father are gone now and our houses name isn't tainted so you are well in do with the society." I say.
"Yes that is true, little flame but what I know is that if I start my own as you say friend group. I know those so called friends of mine will either want something from me or they will try to black mail me in doing something ridiculous and a waste of time like marrying his insufferable empty minded daughter and be forced to produce heir so he can rise in noble ranks and be connected to my beloved sister the Duchess of RavenCrest or they want me to be part of some plan of making more money off the lower class people then they end up getting caught and I'm stuck in that dumpster fire of a mess or even worse they will want relationship advice from a friend. I mean do I look like the type of person who willingly listen to other people problems they cause themselves. Give me some credit." Ajax said.
I rised my eyebrows at what he just said as Sol look completely shocked and Cat well she just unbothered. When I first heard that we will be going to the Emperor ball I was shocked and scared. Not cause of the people but cause the fact that i was going back to the place I was kill in front of the same people that did nothing and refuse to hear nothing from me. I thought I was going to freeze up or crack and them screaming at everyone in the ball room you know go all crazy lady act but I didn't. I mean I still feel that sense of pain in me but it more… numb.
The burning anger and rage that fuel my revenge is still there but I have the feeling that the reason why the pain is numb is cause before I was alone but now I'm not.
