Chapter 66 - Adam Ceborati(4)

I don't remember how long I've been with him, and I don't want to know either way.

I'm a liar, I am writing on my notebook again. What should be my plan for the future? What can I realistically expect to happen?

My next move after this project is to check out every village. I want to check out the land, and make sure they are healthy for farming. My goal is to make sure everyone can grow crops so that no one is left hungry.

"Adam what are you writing down? You have been doing this for quite some time." [] asked me.

I looked at him and smiled. "Just some thoughts, nothing special…Is it that weird?" I asked him.

His expression changed. "Of course it's not weird, I'm honestly sad our time together is short. I want to spend more time with you but it's not possible."

I just laughed as I felt the exact same way, why must time move so fast when I'm with him. To think three days would be gone in a flash is astonishing.

"Adam, I know you are trying your best, and I have some compost left around. You can have them for free as I don't have any use for them."

"Oh that's fine honestly, I'll pay full price as I'm not low on money… Don't make that face I won't argue with you and you know that." I said as he sighed.

I paid up the full price and he handed me the compost, it looked very rich. He handed it to me and I waved him goodbye once again.

"I'll be disappointed if you end up with lackluster results. I have high expectations for you Adam, do your best."

"I wasn't planing for anything less than perfection." I replied.

As I stored the compost away they indeed seem rich, much richer in minerals than anything I've bought before.

That's a bit odd as how does it seem so different. Is there a secret to why it's much better and is there a way to figure it out?

Surely if I did I would be able to speed up the process to a satisfactory outcome.

I'll take notes on that, and should I ask him where he got the compost?

I then stopped and made a realization, I face palmed myself. How could I not have figured this out so long ago, it's so simple.

Back at the village when the worms were abundant. I remember when those 'pests' would be in a specific area that would grow out more faster and healthier crops than other areas.

This isn't a coincidence, why hasn't the government recorded this before? Every book I read had nothing about worms and their effects. Why should they ignore this very important fact?

Are they stupid or have they not realized how useful they can be? What would they benefit by not making this public information? Don't they need to grow food?

That doesn't matter anymore, I'll just tell this to them, and have them do something about it. They will have to explain why they haven't caught on.

——-

I returned back to the land, the men are still working as hard as I expected. Some of them notice me, and they don't seem too happy to see me.

"Alright men, I found out something while out on my break. We just need worms, it's that simple…yes I can see your faces, but that's our solutions." I said.

None of them seemed to want to believe me even when most trusted me.

What happens to the me being this smart genius that they praised me? Did they now think I'm stupid and I'm just joking around?

"Yeah boss, I don't think you remember, but most of us aren't educated. Even if we did believe you we wouldn't know how this would work as all we do is follow your orders."

Oh yeah I forgot, the smartest of them all only had basic education. Even if they weren't educated I can tell them how this could work but I simply don't.

How do worms make the soil richer? Do they just eat the bad stuff inside the land? That's not possible.

Should I tell them even I myself don't know how it works, but I saw a pattern. Would they believe me if I said that to them?

They are just staring at me as if I'm going to say something very important. I have nothing to say as I just rushed this without thinking much about it.

"Well I appreciate your honest work, I feel like you all are doing your best. I have to document this and take another leave."

Of course the men weren't to happy to the fact I was leaving again after a break.

"We aren't happy with how you're just leaving us like that. It's like you aren't interested in the project at all."

"You do understand that you'll get in trouble when they find out what you have been doing. I'm not trying to stop you at all, I'm just warning you of the consequences."

I looked at them and I know how they feel, their boss is taking a break every few days without warning. It's fair to feel anger or frustration and I'm fine with that.

"I don't mind the consequences at all, this is more important than anything…Well most things except this project." I said to them.

"Sure, things worked out for you this time, but what would of happend if it didn't? What if you didn't make this discovery, what would have happened?"

I know how they feel about my risky decisions, and how I'm not telling them anything.

"I'll take the punishment without complain, it's not that hard to understand." I said as I was putting everything in this gamble.

I'll be a fool if this turned out to be a big coincidences and I fail.

——

As the weeks go by, I finally managed to get a meeting with them. Before this all I did was do my best teaching the men, I made sure to stay up late into the night to make progress.

I am now inside the meeting room sitting down, Keith is there waiting for me to speak.

"So I heard you know about this discovery already, I told you that weeks ago. Why are we having a new meeting now? I thought we came to an agreement." I said.

Keith just shook his head. "Adam sorry to say this but your time is up." His expression didn't seem one of sincere.

I was just speechless, "I still have two more months, this is ridiculous and you know it." I stopped myself from slamming the table.

Keith wasn't to happy with what I said as his expression changed to that of anger. "Ceborati don't you know how hard I worked to keep this project up. You're the ungrateful one…yeah by that expression you didn't know what's been happening."

"I had to work my ass off to keep this project alive, I'm on your side which is why I didn't give in." He slammed his hand on the table and pointed at me.

"The president didn't like the extra time I gave you, accept the fact that it wouldn't have worked."

"But the worms, I just discovered a way to make this much faster." I said trying to stay calm.

"So what about the worms? We knew about it already you aren't special." He said which caused me to react unexpectedly.

"What do you mean you guys knew? Why wasn't it in any books that I was given?" I wanted to ask more but I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Listen carefully Ceborati, we have our reasons a naive man like you can never understand." G.O said to me.

"We wanted to put this information in the books, but it took to long. We had to do so much research, and we didn't want to invest in it." He said to me.

"Are you two kidding me? You lied to all of us. Instead of trying to know more you all took the easy way and called them pests. The farmers were fooled by you." I said with anger.

I just can't accept that they would purposely make farmers less efficient.

"Listen Ceborati, we believed they would have discovered this easily. It was our mistake not knowing how stupid they really are, you can't blame us." Keith said as he began to drink something.

"Before you say anything Ceborati, you have no say in this. We appreciate your work, but honest work doesn't always get you in the right places. " G.O told me.

Keith then lowed his glass, "Listen, we have more work for you, I'll give you other projects to do. Accept them and don't make yourself look bad."

I was angry but I wasn't going to let them do this at all.

Keith saw how I was still mad at them, and then he put on a very serious face

"I don't like people who are hard to work with Ceborati. It would be ashame if…your career was cut short wouldn't it?" He said as he put took out a document.

He began tapping it in a rhythmic manner, that's my documentation. I know he is trying to scare me, but I know if I don't suck it up I'll get fired.

I stood up and agreed with him leaving the place. I don't trust them at all anymore, they aren't good people.

I returned to my room which I haven't been in for months. It was neatly cleaned, this is what service 'important' people get.

I sat down and I wanted to scream loudly, this frustration within me is much bigger than before.

I want to yell at them and make them understand my frustration. I want the president to know how much I detested him.

"GOOD MORNING CITIZENS, THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT."

I heard it, it was the president, and he was using a megaphone. I got up and walked to the window, and there he was there like nothing has ever happened.

He is very old, like usual he isn't smiling at all. To think about it no one has ever seen him smile at all, I don't mind that as much as I want to.

What makes me boil up is how he doesn't seem to notice anyone in the crowd. His eyes were staring yet his soul wasn't, he just ignored everyone.

He doesn't even look happy to make this announcement, he doesn't care about the speech he is doing currently.

Not one singlet person has the president acknowledged at all. He is mostly staring at the buildings that have his face on them.

I know what type of man he truly, is and it disgusts me a lot. What I'm thinking about is considered blasphemy, and if I was to speak I could get caught.

I began to write down what I felt as I was going to send it to my friend. Luckily because of my position most people aren't suspicious of me so they don't check my mails.

I then heard a knock and I knew who it was. "Listen up Ceborati, I have a new assignment for you to do right away. I know it's happening so fast but it can't be help, do your job." It was him the G.O.

"The problem within this region is that the farmers aren't making enough crops as before."

"Yeah I'm on it immediately, I'll be ready in an hour." I said with as much enthusiasm as I could possibly give.

I began finishing writing down the letter as I was preparing for my leave. I'm not too glad to do this, but I'll have to put up a smile for now.

I got out the room and smiled at him, he gave me a smug look as I walked passed him. I really want to say something to him, but I don't want to cause trouble.

_

It's been a full month since my project got canceled. The construction of the port is going fast and strong.

I have to admit I can understand that this will be a much easier and faster project than mines. It's also less risky, and it's guaranteed to work.

One thing that really irks me is how the land is much more greener than last month. I sighed as this could of worked as well, I could of helped people.

I can't believe it but before I could suck up I heard his voice. "Ceborati, how many times do I have to say this, get out of here. You aren't allowed here anymore it's private property." Keith said.

"Oh I know what crime I'll be breaking if I stay here, I'm just looking that's all." I said.

"Good then just leave, don't make me get the authorities involved." That was my cue so I just left the area without argument.

I should do something about this, maybe I should force some of the area to be a farm while the other should be that port.

It wont be a problem if I did that as the water is great for growing crops after all. How would I convince them to do this, and why would they listen to me?

I then returned to my room, and I laid down on my bed. I have some seeds with me that I was going to use, but never had the chance to.

The port won't be big enough to cover a fraction of the land anyways. This is a dangerous gamble but I don't care at all.

A few hours later I'm back home writing down on my notebook. I did it, I planted them on a corner that is opposite from the port. I made sure it was an area that wasn't watched very often.

I'll wait two full months, and if they don't grow I'll give up but if they do I'll continue. I'll do my best to prove them how wrong they were for doubting me.
