The servants in the castle had been entirely replaced by puppets controlled by Mr. and Mrs. William, bringing back a semblance of peace—but it didn't last long. As Elena grew older, Mr. and Mrs. William began to feel increasingly disgusted by her.

This was because, unlike Lucian, who could now switch between a fishtail and human legs, Elena remained stuck in that hideous, monstrous form. This displeased Mr. and Mrs. William deeply. Every time they looked at Elena, they were reminded of what they became at night—when they could no longer control their urges, transforming into grotesque monsters. They were also merfolk, but never beautiful ones like Lucian. Perhaps that was why Lucian received all the love and affection while Elena was left with nothing but neglect and disdain.
