Nick stared blankly at the scene before him, but before he could say anything, Silvanus's bony body had already collapsed.
The two faced each other. Reflected in Nick's clear eyes were Silvanus's dark, hollow eye sockets, a terrifying skull, yet he seemed not the least bit afraid.
Silvanus let out a soft chuckle. "I can't walk anymore now, so for the time being, be my legs, Nick. Don't just be recorded in history. Please, stand by my side."
"Stand by Vivian's side!" Vivian shouted as well, leaping out of Silvanus's chest. Her bright, sparkling eyes fixed on Nick.
Nick parted his lips, staring at Silvanus in a daze. This was the first time in his life that someone had needed him, had asked him to stay by their side. He then looked into Vivian's eyes. For the first time, someone was looking at him with such unabashed fondness and expectation, even though Vivian was only a fox… wait, why could Vivian talk?
