Chapter 263: Family

A young couple, along with their little child, were having a peaceful walk through the main road in Diagon Alley.

People who saw them would often recognize them and greet them politely.

"Papa, can we go there?" The little girl was pointing at Florean's Ice Cream Parlour.

James glanced down at his excited daughter. She was barely six years old, but the more she grew, the more she started to resemble her mother, Bella, with that long black hair and those beautiful purple eyes.

'Where did my genes go?' James wondered about it sometimes.

"Are you asking me because you know your mother would say no?" James asked the little girl, who responded by puffing her cheeks and looking away.

"You had ice cream at home after lunch…" Bella frowned.

"Can we go there then?" The girl was now pointing at the Quidditch shop. Apparently, she had quickly switched to something else. "I wanna a broom!"

"A flying broom? Those things are too dangerous for a child." Bella said.

"Actually, I believe they have started making brooms for children. They cannot hover more than a few feet off the air." James told her. "I heard it from another professor at Hogwarts. They seem to be very safe."

"Really? Mmm…" Bella seemed to be considering it. "I will have to look at them first."

"Yeah!" The girl jumped with excitement and took off running towards the shop.

"Violet, wait for us." Bella was scolding her daughter when her sharp eyes spotted something suspicious going on inside the Quidditch shop. "James!" she shouted.

"Got it." James casually activated his half-animagus form. His hair turned silver, and sparks of electricity ran across his body.

In an instant, he was already next to his daughter, who had managed to almost reach the door of the shop.

He grabbed her and moved out of the way just as someone slammed the door open and rushed outside.

From the sidelines, James saw two suspicious men holding bags. His daughter Violet was safely secured in his arms.

"Thieves!" The owner of the shop was now yelling. "Help! Thieves!"

"Papa!" Violet exclaimed.

"It's okay, shh. Stay with me." James reassured the little girl. "Your mother can handle this."

Bella already had her wand in her right hand, while at the same time she ran some magic through the black ring on her left one. "Aether!"

As she called its name, the creature transformed from a simple ring into a large winged serpent.

This had been the chimera that James had gifted to her ten years ago.

Much like Primum, this chimera had been made by combining several magical creatures, and right now, it was Bella's most loyal companion.

"Auror Department, stop!" Bella shouted at the two thieves as she showed them her badge.

After joining the Auror forces, Bella had made a name for herself in a very short amount of time.

James didn't initially like the idea of her joining the forces, as it was a dangerous job. However, he understood Bella's nature better than most.

That girl was made for action. It was something she craved and would never have been happy with a common desk job or being a housewife.

So after much deliberation, they came up with the idea of becoming an Auror.

It was the only job where she could legally throw curses at people and be as violent as she wanted.

And oh boy… she was violent.

Even the most hardcore dark wizards would tremble when they saw her.

They weren't afraid of her just for her combat skills either.

James was not willing to lose her, so when she became an Auror, it came with the condition that she would carry some extra protections that he would make for her.

He got to work and made use of his alchemy skills to construct the most powerful magical artifacts that the world had ever seen.

The chimera, Aether, was only the tip of the iceberg. Bella had three more chimeras that she could call at any point, one of them being as dangerous as Primum in its ultimate form.

She also had half a dozen protective artifacts that would basically save her from any existing magic that criminals could throw at her, as well as several other of James' creations.

If she were to unleash everything in her arsenal at the same time, she could destroy an army by herself.

The two men saw her, as well as the large serpent flying towards them, and immediately panicked as they recognized who she was.

"The Black Mamba!"

"We are doomed!"

"What did you call me?!" Bella growled. She hated that name, even though it was fairly accurate.

She saw that the thieves ran in opposite directions and pointed at one. "Go for that one. Only paralysis." She said to her familiar.

Aether was capable of unleashing the deadliest of venoms, but it could also use some non-lethal ones.

In an instant, the flying snake had wrapped around the body of one of the thieves and bitten into his neck.

The paralyzing effects were instant and the man was out of commission just like that.

Meanwhile, Bella had already caught the other thief, disarmed him, and was now bashing his head against the road.

"Yay!" James heard his daughter cheering as he held her.

"You bastard!" Bella grabbed the man's head and pushed him down. "How dare you commit a crime in front of my sweet, innocent daughter!."

"Urgg…" The poor thief groaned. "Mercy…"

"Bella, dear… why not just stun him and be done with it?" James asked as he approached. He was sure that she could have taken that man down with just a flick of her wand.

'Is this all because they dared to use her monicker?' James knew she didn't like it, but he had to admit that it was appropriate.

"Mama is so strong!" Violet exclaimed with her arms in the air and a wide smile on her face.

Bella saw this and puffed her chest. "You're damn right! Your momma is the strongest!" she said proudly while holding the head of the now unconscious thief against the stone road.

James sighed in defeat. 'It looks like my daughter has inherited more than just her looks from her mother.'
