Chapter 132 - Dallas the Royal engineer

The next day, Rei saw Eugene and Bart approaching. "Hey guys," Rei called out. "I'm going to Fushia City. Do you want to come?"

"Yeah, sure! Let us bring our stuff," Eugene replied. Rei walked to his Midgard, and Tenko woke up, settling on Rei's shoulder. Rei used a whirlwind spell to rotate the main gear, and as the Midgard started moving, Rei positioned it beside Asgard. He then ate breakfast with Tenko. Bart and Eugene soon arrived with their belongings and stowed them in the Midgard.

After breakfast, Arizona announced, "We are ready to depart."

"Sure then, let's go," Rei said. Tenko, Bart, and Eugene took seats in the Midgard's chairs. Rei went to the steering wheel, used his whirlwind spell to rotate the main gear, and the Midgard began to move. Soon, Asgard followed, and they set off towards Fushia City.

As they traveled, Rei said, "Tenko, give me the map." Tenko barked and nudged the map towards Rei. Rei looked at it. "So we have to go through this route. We'll be there by noon." Rei had to slow down the Midgard to match Asgard's speed, as Asgard, built for war and fighting, was not as fast as the Midgard, which was designed for rapid travel. While they journeyed, Tenko occasionally offered Rei water. Eugene and Bart looked out the Midgard's window, enjoying the scenery.

By afternoon, they reached Fushia City. As they stopped and entered the city, everyone stared in shock, as usual, at the two magnificent vehicles. They decided to park the vehicles inside rather than outside, having heard that wild beasts had lately become restless. As Rei, Bart, Eugene, and Tenko disembarked, a crowd was already forming around the Midgard, so Rei quickly closed and locked the door. Arizona, Aria, Alya, and Levi had a similar experience.

"So, where does the royal engineer live, Levi?" Rei asked.

"She lives in seclusion near the west area. Follow me," Levi instructed. Rei and his group followed Levi into the slums.

"Are you sure a royal engineer would live in this type of area?" Bart asked, surprised. "Wouldn't they have a magnificent mansion?"

"No, people like us don't get fancy mansions," Levi explained. "That's for war heroes. The only thing we get is either a peaceful place to rest or seclusion. If we take all the mansions, it will make the nobles angry. And if war veterans join the nobles, it will make the palace angry. So either we die or go into seclusion, like my blacksmith town you saw. However, as for royal engineers and mages, they have to keep them more hidden, so they would go to slums."

"That makes sense," Rei mused.

Levi knocked on the door of a slum house and shouted, "Are you here, Dallas?" A woman with dark circles under her eyes and disheveled hair opened the door. "Levi, what are you doing here?" she yawned, continuing, "Who are these people?"

"What happened? Why are you in this state, Dallas?" Levi asked, concerned.

"What reason do you think?" Dallas replied. "I was making something." Levi looked into Dallas's room. It was a mess and dark, clearly indicating she wasn't in the right mind.

"Oh yeah, everyone, she is Dallas. And Dallas, he is the great Arizona, her sister Aria, her wife Alya, this is Rei and they are his friends Bart and Eugene," Levi introduced them all.

"So what?" Dallas said angrily, her patience thin.

"Is she really a royal engineer?" Rei asked skeptically.

"Or what do you think?" Dallas retorted angrily. "I am the royal engineer! I used to have 1000 men under my command!"

"Really?" Rei pressed. "What were you trying to make here? Can you tell me?"

"A new kind of cannon that is way stronger than the previous ones," Dallas stated.

"You have gotten rusty then," Rei commented.

"What do you know?" Dallas snapped back.

"Wait, calm down a little," Levi interjected, taking out a gun and showing it to Dallas.

"What is this?" Dallas asked, intrigued.

"An engineer from Prince Ben's organization, the Revolutionaries, created it," Levi explained. "Try using magic at the trigger—this part." Levi pointed to the trigger. Dallas channeled some magic into it, and the gun fired. Dallas was surprised. "A mini-cannon! It seems to be made with magic compression. Let me see!"

Levi immediately pulled his gun back, not wanting her to disassemble it, and handed her a blueprint. "Use this," he said. As Dallas analyzed the blueprints, she muttered, "So it is made from the Madlen ore's special properties of explosion when magic is put in it. The ores used in the trigger are to conduct the magic, and the magic insulator ores are to protect other bullets. It's really a work of art."

"You can create and innovate this concept if you join the Revolutionaries," Levi offered. "It's led by Prince Ben, so no one will complain about you joining any other faction."

"Really? Then I accept the offer," Dallas said, her enthusiasm returning.

"I heard that you can also create ether cannons. Is it true?" Rei asked.

"Yeah, it's true," Dallas confirmed. "But Emberasia is required as bullets for those ether cannons, so it might not be usable for you."

Rei showed her the Emberasia. "We want you to create ether cannons. Don't worry about Emberasia." Dallas's eyes widened. "Fine, leave it to me," she said decisively.

"Well, get your things ready. You are going with them now," Rei instructed.

"Leaving now? Isn't tomorrow a good time?" Dallas asked, surprised.

"You would know why soon," Rei replied cryptically. As the group left the house, Levi remarked, "We have a royal engineer with us now. Even though they are all former, they have much more experience than the others. Arizona is no weaker than a Royal Mage. What we need is someone who is as strong as a Royal Knight, and our organization will rise to the sky."

"Don't be too greedy," Rei cautioned. "We need to be patient."

Soon, Dallas emerged from her house with her belongings. "Let's go," Levi said. They went to Asgard. Dallas looked at it, confused. "What is this cart?" As Levi, Arizona, Alya, and Aria went inside, Dallas followed them.

"Looks like this is where we part ways," Levi said to Rei.

"Our paths will merge again pretty soon," Rei replied. "Take care of the Revolutionaries."

"Sure," Levi said. As Asgard started to move, Dallas inside was intrigued. A faint sound could be heard outside, but it quickly faded as Asgard drove away.
