I stared at Liam, my heart pounding in my chest as I watched how his gaze moved between Jake and I slowly. His eyes then flicked back to mine and I immediately remembered his threat to Jake over the phone that day.
Oh fuck.
Was he going to make a scene now?
Just when I had almost succeeded in convincing Jake that we could actually be friends again.
I pressed my lips into a thin line, hoping Liam could see the desperation and imploring look in my eyes, and not do anything stupid.
But knowing him… that was wishful thinking.
His gaze didn't leave mine, sharp and unreadable, but I could tell from the way his jaw tightened that something was already unraveling behind the calm.
A storm. A reaction. A fight.
Definitely something reckless.
I swallowed, trying to silently will him to stay put. To let it go. To not be Liam. To not be Alex. But his fingers curled into fists by his sides…
And just like that, I knew.
He'd already made up his mind.
