Chapter 39 - Crossing Lines

"We're here," Aiden said, his voice cutting through the hum of the engine.

I unwrapped my arms from his waist and carefully slid off the motorcycle, my movements slow and cautious.

Aiden killed the engine and leaned back with a sigh, his gaze drifting upward.

"Ellie, I don't even know what to say… I'm sorry about what happened."

I pulled his jacket tighter around me, shivering as the cutting night air raised goosebumps along my skin. I focused on the dorm building ahead of us instead of the weight of his words.

I felt exhausted, and the thought scared me. I knew I had only just begun whatever long ordeal this situation would turn out to be.

I shook my head, swallowing the lump in my throat. "I just wanna see Noah," I mumbled.

Aiden slowly lowered his head, his expression carefully blank. His hands tightened around the handlebars for a brief moment before he let go. He stepped off the bike, but when I took a few steps back, a frown crossed his face.
