The Mind Stone allows its user to enter the minds of others, drawing dreams, thoughts, and intentions directly into their own consciousness.
It strengthens mental power and amplifies psychic abilities.
When empowered by other stones, it can even simultaneously enter the minds of all existing beings.
This was a terrifying gem.
One capable of producing immeasurable power.
Its abilities were almost identical to Charles's-or rather, several of them directly overlapped with his own.
When it came to psychic strength and control, Charles was easily the most exaggerated psychic Noah had ever encountered.
Even Jean Grey, the Phoenix, looked like a junior standing in front of him.
Of course, Jean had her moments of brilliance, while Charles had always remained mysterious-calm, restrained, and seemingly untouchable.
But that wasn't the real point.
What puzzled Noah was why Wanda's abilities were also related to psychic power.
Erik's power was magnetism. He could manipulate anything tied to it with absolute freedom.
Yet his children's abilities had mutated in strangely disconnected directions-not to mention the ones who hadn't appeared yet, or had already died in this world.
Quicksilver's power was speed.
At least, it should be supersonic speed here.
With training and other variables, whether he could approach light speed was still uncertain.
His potential was undeniable.
It even reminded Noah of the Flash from a neighboring universe.
But that power had nothing to do with magnetism.
And Wanda?
There was even less to say.
In this universe, her abilities were frighteningly similar to Charles's. If Noah didn't trust Charles's character, he might have believed Charles had done something questionable behind the scenes.
"Is this the Mind Stone?"
Charles and Erik stared at the gem intently. After a long silence, Charles finally spoke.
"It feels... extremely compatible with my power."
"It is," Noah shrugged. "Both are powers of the mind-more accurately, the spirit. It matches you perfectly. So, what have you decided?"
"I'm sorry, Noah."
Charles sighed and handed the gem back.
"I'm afraid I'll disappoint you. I still need time. Or rather... Jean needs time."
Noah took the Mind Stone without hesitation.
He wasn't particularly bothered.
Charles was more than capable-but he carried too many internal concerns.
At heart, he was still hesitant.
He worried about consequences. About failure.
Strictly speaking, Noah was partly responsible. He had never explained what kind of terrifying existence Thanos truly was.
On top of that, Charles was sensitive by nature. He wanted to properly settle the future of all mutants before taking another step.
There were advantages and disadvantages to this approach.
But no matter what, Noah had no intention of interfering too much.
"It's fine," Noah said casually. "No matter what you choose, you're already in the game. This is just a chance to change how you're positioned in it."
"A pawn becoming a queen?" Charles smiled.
Noah didn't answer.
This wasn't about pawns or queens.
It was about stepping out of the game entirely-or becoming the one holding the banner.
With an Infinity Stone and sufficient strength, that possibility existed. Unless Charles could become something like the Ancient One.
Being a mutant placed an immense burden on Charles.
One Noah would never truly experience.
Noah knew from the start what Thanos would do. With his own foresight and protection, he could make decisions without hesitation.
Mutants were different.
They were rootless.
If Noah hadn't persuaded the Ancient One-and later Dumbledore-the wizarding world would likely still be arguing over them.
Now, they were enjoying a rare peace and wanted nothing to disrupt it.
Without knowing the final outcome, Charles refused to drag mutants into the coming storm.
What he wanted was to remove himself from the equation.
To stand beside Noah simply as Charles-not as the leader of mutants.
So Noah didn't push the issue.
Charles didn't know the ending.
Noah did.
And more importantly, Noah subconsciously believed Charles wasn't irreplaceable.
If necessary, couldn't Erik's daughter wield the Mind Stone?
Failing that, his junior brother-who was about to go off the rails-would arrive within a year.
Teaching him to use the Mind Stone wouldn't be impossible.
Shaking his head, Noah dropped the topic.
Whatever happened, it wouldn't damage their relationship.
"By the way, Noah," Erik suddenly spoke up. "Where are my son and daughter?"
The atmosphere had grown heavy.
Erik didn't fully understand what Noah and Charles were discussing, but he was more than happy to bring it to an end.
After all, they had another reason for coming.
His children.
"Aren't they right there?" Noah pointed at the two young figures with vacant expressions. "Take a look. I think you have a way to verify it, don't you?"
"They're... here?"
Erik hadn't expected them to be right in front of him-and already under Charles's influence.
He shot Charles a glare, then looked at Noah with clear dissatisfaction, before immediately moving toward the two youths.
Noah simply smiled.
Erik extracted a small amount of blood from them and began chanting a strange spell.
"Bloodline magic?" Noah tilted his head. "I didn't expect you to learn that. It must have taken a long time."
"Nearly two years," Erik replied with a smile. "Most of what's in Anecdotal Magic Records is fake-but there are real things mixed in. Like this."
Noah nodded.
Anecdotal Magic Records was closer to a collection of fairy tales than a proper spellbook.
Some stories were even more exaggerated than Lockhart's nonsense.
The author was a notorious liar.
Without sufficient knowledge, distinguishing truth from fiction inside it was nearly impossible.
Noah could.
And this spell was something he had specifically pointed out to Erik.
"I have to admit," Noah mused, rubbing his chin, "this Mr. Liar was interesting. Developing a spell like this and hiding it in a book-he was a genius."
"A genius?" Erik frowned. "Then why would he invent something like this?"
The spell was still running.
They had time.
With Charles's psychic control in place, no one-including Erik's children-was aware of anything happening.
Cameras didn't matter.
If they were recorded, they were recorded.
"How should I put it," Noah chuckled. "He's considered one of the most shameful figures in British wizarding history."
"Aidan Abynor. Formerly Lord Abynor. Famous adventurer, wizard... and relationship expert."
"Relationship expert?" Charles blinked. "Don't tell me it's because he had too many partners and too many children."
"Exactly."
Noah nodded.
"He seduced countless women-ordinary people and witches alike. Eventually, women kept showing up at his door, and he had to pay them off."
"So he made this spell?"
"To figure out who was telling the truth-and who was trying to scam him."
Erik and Charles both fell silent.
Watching the spell continue, their expressions grew complicated.
For a moment, Erik even considered stopping it.
"Then how was he exposed?" Charles asked quickly, sensing Erik's mood. "Why is he a stain on wizarding history?"
"He wasn't exposed," Noah said calmly. "He exposed himself."
Before his death, Aidan published an article detailing his entire life.
How many lovers he had.
How many children.
How many people he'd deceived.
"...That guy..." Erik muttered, stunned.
"And here's the best part," Noah continued, laughing. "At the time, the Ministry of Magic was preparing to award him a Lifetime Achievement Award. They even planned to hang his portrait in Hogwarts."
Noah laughed without restraint.
"I heard they almost arrested his corpse."
The embarrassment was absolute.
Imagine preparing to honor someone-only for them to announce to the world that everything was a lie.
And when the Ministry tried to settle accounts, they discovered he was already dead.
As if he were mocking them.
"I'm dead. What can you do about it?"
The only fortunate thing was that the Minister of Magic back then was relatively open-minded.
Otherwise, Aidan's books-and his magic-might have disappeared forever.
Including this spell.
Now, it fused with Erik's blood, glowing red as it continued to operate...
