The Battle of New York?
Noah really hadn't expected to be asked that.
He looked at Scott's innocent face and felt a little speechless.
Tony, sitting nearby, wore a very serious expression. If his eyebrows weren't twitching nonstop, Noah might have actually believed him.
To be honest, this was the first time anyone had ever asked Noah that question.
Everyone in the magical world knew exactly what he had done in New York.
It had been an almost genocidal act. He had nearly wiped out an entire race by himself.
As for ordinary people who were supposed to know, most of them understood Noah's role clearly-summoning sorcerers, resisting the invasion, and personally eliminating nearly all the invaders while displaying his strongest power.
Almost all of the Avengers knew this.
Unfortunately, Stark's new little ant, who had just joined the Avengers, didn't.
Most likely, this guy had still been eating prison food when the aliens invaded New York.
So it was perfectly normal that he knew nothing.
Noah sighed, looking at the foolish man, unsure how to answer him for a moment.
After thinking it over, Noah decided it would be better to let him experience it directly.
No amount of explanation would ever be as real as firsthand experience.
"Of course I participated," Noah said with a faint smile. "And I did something meaningful."
"Meaningful?" Scott's eyes lit up with interest as he looked at Noah.
Just as Noah expected, Scott really had been in prison back then.
All he'd seen were TV broadcasts. And reruns, at that.
He'd only just joined the Avengers, so there were many things he genuinely didn't know.
Not just Scott.
Hank Pym and Hope were also looking at Noah with curiosity.
They were curious too-about what this young man had done in the Battle of New York.
At most, they assumed he had played a supporting role.
"Yes. Something meaningful," Noah said calmly. His smile didn't fade. If anything, it grew brighter. "I carried out a very thorough cleanup."
"...A cleanup?" Scott felt a strange sense of unease, but still asked.
This time, Noah didn't answer.
He simply raised his head slightly.
In that instant, everyone present clearly saw it.
Noah's unique eye.
It glowed crimson.
Noah usually layered magic over that eye to divert attention.
He found it too... evil.
Its very existence seemed to scream villain.
Among sorcerers, that wasn't an issue. Everyone knew what Noah's other form was.
But ordinary people didn't.
So Noah hid it to avoid trouble.
This time, he didn't bother.
It was the most direct proof of what he had done.
In the next instant, Noah's magic rippled outward.
A phantom appeared behind him.
A gigantic black dragon.
The enormous dragon head, wrapped in dense darkness, looked down at Scott, Hope, and Hank.
Their hearts seemed to stop.
That posture-standing above everything.
That overwhelming darkness.
That world-ending presence.
All of it dragged three-year-old memories back to the surface.
A dragon from the abyss.
Hovering above Manhattan.
Erasing nearly all the aliens by itself.
Scene after scene flooded their minds.
And in that moment, they finally understood what Noah meant by "something meaningful."
The pressure intensified.
Scott, Hope, and Hank were almost forced to their knees by the sheer terror of it.
"Alright. That's enough."
Noah's voice suddenly cut through.
The pressure vanished.
The dragon disappeared.
As if it had never existed.
If not for the cold sweat soaking their backs, they might have believed it had all been an illusion.
"An... impromptu performance?" Hank swallowed hard and stared at Noah. "You're... that dragon?"
"Yep." Noah smacked his lips, deliberately drawing it out. "That's also magic. I'm a real human, and the dragon is real too. You can think of it as me having two forms. Two real ones."
Explaining Dragonborn magic was troublesome.
It involved far too much theory.
This was well beyond the understanding of these three laymen. Even Tony, who had already stepped into magic, wouldn't fully grasp it.
So Noah didn't bother explaining further.
Whether they understood or not didn't matter.
What Noah cared about now was something else.
Why had Hank come to him?
Was he planning to send his daughter here to study magic?
That thought wasn't strange.
Hank didn't get along with the Stark family.
And now Tony was learning magic.
As one of the earliest ordinary scientists Noah had known, it wasn't impossible Hank had considered it.
"So," Noah tilted his head. "What's your real reason for coming, Hank? If you're here to recommend someone to study magic, you'd better not. We're still old friends. Don't make things awkward."
"...I did think about that before," Hank admitted with a sigh. "But since you've said that... I just want to ask if you can help me with something. You're probably the only person I can think of."
"What kind of help?" Noah shrugged. "Go on."
"My wife-"
"Sorry. I can't."
Noah cut him off immediately.
Hank's wife was trapped in the Quantum Realm.
There was nothing Noah could do.
The Quantum Realm could be considered a parallel universe.
Or more accurately, a complete microscopic universe.
Crossing into another universe directly required surpassing the stage of divine transformation.
Among those Noah knew, only one person had reached that level.
Odin.
Even then, Odin wouldn't help a stranger.
Helping someone cross universes was no trivial matter.
The person closest to that level now was the Ancient One.
Unfortunately, she was in the middle of a breakthrough.
Conservatively, it would take over a year.
Optimistically, half a year.
So entering the Quantum Realm would have to rely on technology.
Just like in the original timeline.
In the later stages, technology was not inferior to magic.
Not just in power-but in potential.
"Don't refuse so quickly, Lord Finnell," Hank said urgently. "Please let me finish-"
"You don't need to," Noah shook his head. "I already know. I'm a sorcerer. I can perceive many things. Years ago, I already foresaw your problem. Sorcerers value fair exchange."
"So... you know."
"Yes. The Quantum Realm."
Noah deliberately glanced at Hank's reddened eyes.
Then he raised his hand.
A pale golden glow formed in the air.
Two circles appeared.
One enormous.
One microscopic.
Chaotic energy flowed endlessly within both.
"You can think of these as two universes," Noah said casually. "In reality, they aren't that far apart. Humans are simply too small to reach the boundary. And the universe has a self-preservation instinct. It doesn't allow ordinary beings to cross freely, so we're bound to a single dimension for our entire lives."
"...I see."
Hank rubbed his eyes.
If a sorcerer couldn't do it, then what hope was there?
This visit had crushed him.
He hadn't expected such an outcome.
"However."
Noah suddenly spoke again.
Hank's head snapped up.
"It's not impossible."
"...What?" Hope flickered in his eyes. "How?"
"Magic won't work-for now," Noah said with a faint smile. "But there's still technology. And actually, you're already on the right path. You've already found the most important person."
He pointed at Scott.
"Your future son-in-law. This lucky guy. He's the one who can enter the Quantum Realm. He's also a tool. Your wife has already evolved inside it."
"Son-in-law? Tool?" Scott turned to Hope, confused.
Before he could say anything else, Hank cut in sharply.
"Evolved? What does that mean?"
"It's simple," Noah replied. "Your wife is no longer an ordinary human. She's become a higher existence."
He smiled.
"And after all this... haven't you noticed the most important detail?"
"...What?"
"Your wife is still alive, you idiot."
