The sea had quieted down to a soft, steady rhythm…gentle waves crawling up the sand and retreating again like the ocean itself was breathing. Monica sat beside him, knees tucked in, her hair fluttering in the sea breeze, the moonlight catching on every strand like it had been painted there on purpose.
They had been sitting like this for a while, finding peace in each other's company. Sometimes silence said what words couldn't… something simple, like I'm glad you're here.
Just when he thought that, the night would drift away in silence like this.
Monica turned slightly, hugging her knees, and said quietly,
"Rex… there's something I should tell you."
He looked at her, eyebrows raised slightly. "Yeah?"
Her tone had changed….softer, slower. "I… I'll have to leave the country for a few weeks."
He didn't say anything yet. He just waited, and she kept going, eyes flicking toward the ocean, as if afraid to meet his.
