Just then,one of them noticed a shadow enlarging on the ground.
The captain's eyes caught movement above. His breath froze in his throat. A figure dropped from the sky, fast and black against the pale snow.
"Dodge!" he screamed.
The warning cut through the chaos just in time.
BOOM.
The ground split apart as the figure landed with the impact exploding like a cannon. The shockwave blasted outward. Men were thrown through the air along with shields flying,and bodies slammed into the frozen ground. The sound of their armor clattering filled the night as the formation scattered.
Snow surged upward like waves, dust and smoke blotting out sight. The air stank of burnt earth and blood.
The camp trembled, and order shattered in an instant. The soldiers staggered to their feet, some clutching their ears, others gasping for breath. Fear traced across their faces as shadows of demons loomed closer.
