Chapter 288 - Enchanted Valyrian Armor and Staff

Chapter 288: Enchanted Valyrian Armor and Staff

Underground Base, Bolton Lands

POV of Domeric Bolton

Domeric pushed the Incubation Room's door open, and at the center of the room was a large black egg, double the size of any other egg in the room.

A little distance from the black egg, on the right and left, two eggs were in separate incubators.

The difference from the black egg was that six eggs were attached to each of these two eggs instead of seven.

Domeric went to the black dragon egg and placed his hand on it.

A feeling of warmth, happiness, and contentment came from inside the egg.

"Is it ready?" Ygritte asked softly, not wanting to break this special moment.

"It is." He replied and removed his hand from the egg, instantly missing its warmth.

He wondered if he had unknowingly formed some sort of bond with the egg. He had been missing its presence ever since he completed the ritual and became a Dragonlord.

"It has been ready to hatch for some time." He told her, "It was I who was not ready."

Unlike the other two eggs growing in the incubator, Domeric had been nurturing this black egg for a long time. As the only dragon to absorb the power of the seven dragon eggs, it would become Domeric's strongest dragon and become the leader of the Dragon Army.

"And you're ready now?" Ygritte asked, and he smiled.

"Yes. I suppose I am." He said as he conjured a fireball at the tip of his finger and put it under the palm of his left hand.

Fire didn't burn him. It couldn't do it anymore.

"Are you going to hatch in now? Today?" she asked.

He shook his head, "I'm still a little weak from the aftereffects of the ritual. My magic is still unstable. And I want to be at my best when I hatch it." He said, "Let's go to the treasury. There's something I want to check."

Looking at the mountain of gold coins did not give Domeric the same feeling of satisfaction as it once did.

He had seen it so many times before that it was now just 'another resource' he could put to use one day.

He did not come here for the gold.

He went to the section, which was filled with Valyrian items that he brought from Valyria, Ygritte following silently behind him. She was always silent when she entered this room. As if speaking would destroy the sanctity of this room.

Domeric headed towards the area where the Valyrian weapons and armor were stored. Varko and Raksa had put the weapons and armor in some proper order in the past. Domeric went to the area that was filled with Valyrian armor.

He only had a dozen of them.

And among them…

His hand went and touched the Enchanted Valyrian Armor with the white colored crystal embedded in its chest.

Nothing happened.

He smiled, and his shoulders relaxed a bit.

Whenever he had touched the armor before this, it always gave him a feeling of wrongness.

As if he was touching something that he wasn't supposed to touch. As if the armor didn't belong to him, which was true in a sense.

The armor didn't reject him anymore.

"Stand back a little," he told Ygritte. She gave him a worried look, but complied and stood at a distance from him.

He took a deep breath and then pushed a tendril of magic inside the armor.

The white crystal in it sucked the tendril of magic as if it were a bottomless hole.

He frowned and poured a little bit more magic into it.

Same result.

He poured a little more this time.

He frowned and started pouring all the magic he could, and it continued to suck it all away as if it were a bottomless hole.

He frowned and continued.

A few minutes later, Domeric had poured all the magic from Merlin's Sapphire into the crystal and was now using magic from his own reserves.

When his reserves were halved, he panted from magical exhaustion and finally removed his hand from the white crystal in the Enchanted Valyrian Armor.

Despite his earlier words, Ygritte came forward to support him before he slumped from magic exhaustion.

"Did… did it work?" She asked him.

He was sure she didn't know what he was doing. Just that he was doing something, and it left him exhausted.

"I don't know." He replied, looking at the enchanted armor with some frustration, "Let's check on something else now."

He walked up to the place where the other Valyrian trinkets were kept and picked up the Enchanted Valyrian Magical Staff.

It did not reject him either, and he felt a little giddy at the prospect.

He had never used a staff before, and it gave him a childish sort of excitement for some reason.

Picked up the Enchanted Valyrian Staff and paused.

The crystal on its head was of a similar color to the crystal that was embedded in the Enchanted Valyrian armor. How had he missed it before?

He slowly touched the crystal. Nothing happened. He poured some magic into it.

The crystal sucked all the magic he gave it without any reservation.

He sighed.

"Is everything alright?" Ygritte asked.

Hmm. "Yeah…" he said, quickly. He had almost forgotten that she was even there. "There's something I need to check."

She understood and backed away a few steps from him.

He picked up the staff by the Valyrian steel handle and pointed it at the small mountain of gold in front of him.

He channeled a little magic from inside him into the staff and said, "Wingardium Leviosa."

A bright light came out of the top end of the staff and shot toward the mountain of gold.

WHOOSH!!!

The mountain of gold was suddenly sent flying into the air by Domeric's magic, and Domeric's heart nearly jumped out of his chest when he inadvertently canceled the spell due to the surprise it gave him.

He quickly channeled his magic into the staff and formed a shield around himself and Ygritte.

A moment later, gold coins rained down upon them and clinked against the shield before falling away to the side.

The rain stopped five seconds later, and he gaped at the result.

With just one spell, a massive pile of gold had been lifted into the air at a speed he had never seen from this spell before, and where the pile of gold had been, there were now only a few gold coins scattered after falling to the ground.

And the shield he had created at a moment's notice was still standing just as strong, even when he stopped channeling magic into it.

He put his hand near his chest, where his heart was beating extremely quickly from the surprise of the power of the spell, and he took a deep breath.

He needed an open space if he was about to use any magic with this staff.

"Let's take a break." He told Ygritte.

She looked at the gold lying around them and at the shield still protecting them, and then at him.

"Yeah. Let's do that… before you bury us under a pile of gold." He winced at that but didn't offer a rebuttal.
