"It is still here."
It was a passing statement, I was about to open the door to go for a walk when Baurbius spoke up just loud enough for me to hear. He was talking about Mei but he did not look my way. He looked like he was working.
"Can we talk?" I asked.
"What about, niece?" He responded but did not look up from the pile of paper that faced him.
I looked around to see if Leah was anywhere near us. She was not.
"You know what."
He paused and finally looked at me for the first time in a while.
"I told you to forget about that." He scorned.
"Why have you not chased me out yet?" I was genuinely curious, I was like a ticking time bomb that he allowed to stay under his roof. I posed so much threat to him that if I was in his shoes, I would have found a way to keep me under control. But Baurbius, he just left me alone.
"Why would I do that? You are just a child." His eyes went back to his work.
