Chapter 3 - The Untold Story

It came to pass as everything subsided and the land heals with time, the waters were still, not minding the humans as if nothing had happened some years ago and fishermen at this time returned, with no problem just that the ocean was quiet.

"You better come here young lady!" A loud feminine voice sounded in the hallway, she was tired as she haved for air. " you can't catch me nanny Oprah!" The small girl shouted and her laughter echoed as she kept on running in circles with her old nanny, the little girl stopped as her eyes landed on the open space in the palace's garden, everyone forbids her from going near the flowing water in the garden, she stared at the blue water that looked like it was calling out to her and she went even closer staring at her reflection in the clear water and she smiled at her beauty that moved with the waves of the water and as if she was pulled with force from something, she entered the water as she struggled to breathe, she had no idea the water was deep that she would drown at this point. "Oh my god! Meili dear, are you okay?" Oprah asked as soon as the girl opened her eyes, she blinked before she took in a deep breath and still couldn't find her words and the nanny cleaned off her sweat with the wet towel she held as she smiled at the girl. " you are okay…..it's okay" she tried to make Meili feel better, " I-I still have the same nightmares, and it feels so real, like it happened and no one..." she trailed off and stared at the night sky, she knew there's more to what she was feeling and yet, yet no one wants to say anything it has been like this since she started growing and she couldn't go out from the palace walls, " you can go back to sleep nanny Oprah, I'm fine" Meili said with a small smile and the old lady only frowned at the princess's words. " are you sure?" The old lady asked with worry, the young princess had stopped talking as time passed by and the king was responsible.

She stood at her window that was facing the entrance of the palace and took in a deep breath, " I wish you were here mother, all these…..this- feeling and the pain is killing me…." She broke into tears, she had been doing this for some time now and nobody saw her in the said above, at least that was what she thought. After pouring out a bit of her suffering and misfortune she sat on the floor and stared at nothingness till sunrises and her handmaidens came in to help her out, it's not like she needed the stupid bidding but the day was special and she cared less. "My king!" One of the maids greeted when she spotted the man making his way to the princess's room, " where is she!" He questioned and there was princess Meili sitting behind the dresser with her dark long hair cascaded on her back and for a moment the king stood mesmerized by the view and then she raised her head to look at her father through the mirror in front of her. Her expressionless face stared back at him with those strange eyes of hers', really who did she take after! The exceptionally dark hair was from her mother and beauty was rare, so was her different eye colours, with one being green and the other baby blue which made her look scary or ridiculous sometimes as if she was not real. "Do you need anything, your majesty?" She tried to be polite, but who was she fooling with no smile on her incredible face, the king cleared his throat, he was here to make sure she didn't make it difficult for the maids again but he was surprised she was quietly sitting down " you don't have to come here personally to straighten me, your majesty?" She spat the truth in front of him and he stood speechless. " you are well behaved today, still wondering what changed " the king glared at her for talking back, it's not like she cared about what he did or said to her, she was just fine with it all. She was meeting a new suitor today and this time Meili was going to take him and get the hell out of this place filled with horrible memories, that no one wants to talk about or even explain. There was an unsaid truth or something yet her father, no! The king would not care to open up, she had forgotten how to call him father as the years went by and realized she was okay with that.

She walked down the hallway and realized a whole lot had changed from last she had ran through it, she was full of life at that time and now even with the lovely green dress she was wearing and all the tough up her maids did for her, she looked pleasing to the eye yet her inner beauty and life was no where to be found. "Duke Humsworth is already here, princess " this time, she turned and the old lady smiled at her. Meili shivered before she realized they had reached the front of the dining room, for a moment, she wanted to run away from what ever that was.

She took in a deep breath before she gathered her dress and the doors were opened for her to enter, " beautiful!" A man exclaimed bashfully before he bowed his head. " she has always been a lovely woman " the king spoke proudly with his head high and a pleasant smile on his old face, Duke Humsworth took her hand and kissed her knuckles and received a death glare from Meili, she hated everything even humans as well and the men who looked at her like she was a feast to be fed upon. She snatched her hand away and cleaned it on her dress, not like her hands were bare to the man's kiss, " I finally get to see you, Duke Humsworth " Meili spoke and passed by the man to take her seat, still cleaning the back of her gloved hand on her dress, making the king shake his head, there she went again! The maids came in to serve the lunch and the Duke held his hand in control under the table, he was going to keep his cool just so he could take the girl home. " so…princess Meili, what do you think about me?" He shamelessly asked and the table was silent, " marriage it is, Duke Humsworth " she said shocking everyone and she kept eating, ignoring everything in the room. The king cleared his throat before speaking," Mmmm….are you sure, won't you want—

" I finally want to get off your skin, isn't it what you want your majesty?" Meili cut him off guard and the king closed his mouth, staring right at her. He was supposed to be happy that after all the rounds of choosing suitors, she finally accepted one! Yet he stared at her unbelievably and narrowed his eyes on her, just like that they were done and Meili stood up to leave after her father had left for an important meeting when the Duke grabbed her arm not offensively but Meili could feel his intentions within her very soul and she frowned. " ohh, I'm sorry milady…. Just that, I don't know what to say, are you really going to marry me?" He asked shivering a bit with excitement as his eyes shined and Meili sighed, " no!" She said loudly and snatched her arm again. " which of what I said did you not hear, you should leave already " Meili spoke in a certainly fed up tone and left the room with Humsworth standing watching her back. He ran his fingers through his blonde hair and he scoffed, he couldn't still believed that the little girl was treating him like sh*t.

Meili broke down after closing her door and the tears she was suppressing came out with full force, that was it! Just leave this strange place and never be remembered again and she nodded to herself. Then a knock on the door made her shift, " go away!" She spoke weakly not wanting to see anyone and then she heard the voice of the old nanny. " it's okay if you don't want to talk to me, but please hear me out " the old woman pleaded later on Meili opened the door with a frown and her messed up makeup making her look scarier than normally. " oh poor child, come here " she pulled her into arms, " do you know the untold story? It holds the reason why the king hides you from the world…..but I know this for sure, the truth cannot be hidden for ever " the woman sat the girl down and started unbraiding her hair, looking at her beautiful reflection in the mirror.

" so there is something outside, in the water?" Meili asked innocently, she could become the child she was only when she was with the old lady. " I wouldn't want to offend him…." Oprah scolded Meili in a low tone. " on that unfaithful day, a promise was made and I'm afraid your father the king, wants to break that sacred promise, you are what is promised princess!" Meili stared at her nanny in disbelief, then the old Oprah continued. " you were born with no life, but the ocean saved you through the healing power from the ocean god, you are the reason why we all still alive. This is why the king keeps you away from the outside, he's protecting you from him but I know he's coming, I have seen him in my dreams and this land might be in trouble again if anything happens to you…..my dear think carefully about what you are about to do, the man who saved you from drowning seven years ago is real, I saw him " Oprah held Meili's hands and squeezed them a little, " this marriage must not happen, he might not…." Meili squeezed her back. She was trying to digest everything and now her dreams makes sense, she was not crazy after all…..
